The rear quarter panel got dinged chipping paint away in about 5 inches across and 1-2 inches wide. And its rusting. In NJ rain and snow is prevalent during these times.

This approach seems way less drastic than what you were suggesting. Cutting the panel out doesn't seem like a good idea to me still but I probably don't know the full extent of what is going on here.

That only addresses the rust. The link you posted suggests filling the dents with bondo, which is the cheap way out. When it cracks and falls out, you'll be wishing you had ponied up the cash to do it right the first time. |
Hey Chuck could you explain a bit on the right way to do it, i wanna take it to the place and ask them how there going to do it and see if it fits with what you say. Could you be precise and specific so that i may not go in blind?

It depends on where the damage is and how severe. I've never seen a pic of the damage, so I can't begin to tell you. If it's shallow enough, they may be able to pull the dents out. If it's a crease, it depends on if they can get behind it. If they can pull the dents out close to smooth they may be able to get away with a touch of body filler. If the panel is mangled, they're going to have to cut out the damage or you'll end up with thick spots of bondo all over it and that has a bad habit of cracking and falling out. Then they've got to match the paint to the surrounding area. Have you posted a question in your local forum here to find a good body shop? Someplace that has received multiple recommendations. |
Ill take some pics and send it to you via PM later this week.
