Why does the exhaust growl more aggressively for the first few minutes after starting

The car warms up, so the engine idles at a higher RPM.

i loooovvveeee that sound...FI made it even more enjoyable. sounds sooooo rumbly and agressive!

Combination of slightly higher rev's and over-rich mixture whilst the engine warms-up and the catalytic converters "flashing-up" - cats don;t work until they get to ~6-800DegC and that takes a couple of minutes

Mine sounds like a massive exhaust leak and loud when started. I thought it might be the flex piping in the exhaust. As the exhaust gets heated up the flex piping expands sealing itself up.

My G did it, my Z did it and my Porsche does it..........it's nothing out of the normal

I love cold starts. On the other hand, I can't sneak out of the house. Even if I some how managed to push it around the corner, she can hear my car from a mile away, as in a literal mile from my house.

Let me translate:

"My good friend had a single tip exhaust system installed. Gosh darn when he engages the ignition, it makes me go wow. He had the engine tuned up and it was faster than other peoples cars. He told me that after the tune allowed his car to produce more horsepower, he was able to claim victory in a race with an elderly gentleman the previous day".

Either that or after the tune, he mauled an old man.

Thanks, Elan... Makes sense now. Thats certainly one Boi who doesn't know the meaning of "Respect your elders", I mean, you can't just go around whipping faces, let alone rearranging them.

im grumpy for several min when i get up every morning...

I get up at least an hour before everyone else around me to get my grumpiness out of my system and about 1 liter of high-test coffee before I have to interact with anyone in person.

It is better this way.

Nothing more than the VVT running rich to heat everything up quickly. It's been asked a few times in here. If you tap the gas it drops a little guicker

I got up and at 'em early Saturday morning to go to Cars and Coffee, started my Z to let it warm up. Set off the alarm on my SRT. My next door neighbors came out yelling at me, saying they were going to call the cops for a noise complaint or some nonsense. They asked if I could make the Z quieter, and I said Sure, but I'm not going to. They said I should not be allowed to start my car before 8am. I only drive it like 2-3 times/month. I guess it's loud. Stupid headers. :)

My 240Z is significantly louder than my 370. Sometimes I take my 240Z to the airport and park it there for a day or two when I travel. Driving it in the garage at low RPM makes various car alarms "chirp". If I rev it, I set some of them off.

I made a lady drop her purse once in a parking garage on start up.

I was pleased

I know that with my STS turbo kit ive started it up in a few parking garages and made several car alarms chirp and even set one off once...it always pleases me

I have the same thing, but luckily my neighbors are gay and put with a lot of cap from me because they want to get in my pants. When I start in the morning it rattles their wine rack and pictures on the wall. He actually told me the other day that when his alarm goes off he just keeps hitting snooze, but when he hears my car he knows it's time to get up and go to work hahaha.
