Damn, that's just unfortunate. However, the car can be replaced. You can't.
People make mistakes and it's all part of life  Good luck getting everything sorted out! |
Damn all bad.
Let is know what ends up happening, wishing for the best. I personally hates those yield green lights they scared the **** out of me. They shouldn't have those anymore. Those lights are all judgment and sometimes it ends in accidents. I recall a time where I was in that situation. However, in my case I the Honda.(funny I was actually in my Honda ) Anyways I was coming straight down on a green light with yield on the opposite side or whatever. When I was approaching the green light I slowed down because the car trying to turn right creeped out and looked like he was going to go make his turn. After I slowed down a bit I kept going and at the same time he decided to turn. Lucky for me I was able to avoid it. Its that initial hesitation that causes this crap. Sorry if that doesn't make sense. I'm typing on my phone. Regardless, I know excatly what you mean. Good luck ! |

Lol the indecision on her part caused this. All my opinion and defense. I had a humbling and real moment today when I decided to open the door to the z and take a seat in it. It was pretty emotional. I realized how lucky I was to have walked away and how emotionally connected I am to my car. I know it's just a material thing and my life is more important, but it's hard to see my car like that. She was my first brand new car. The first big purchase I made after starting my career after graduating. Only 19 months young and now she's broken. I was so proud of it and how far it has come since buying it. It was a testament to my hard work all gone in an instant. As you can tell, I'm pretty bummed. Enough with my sob story. The next chapter begins.

^^^call It what it is. An "it", helps next time, if ever your car gets damaged. And you have insurance, your hard work isn't lost

damn that sucks :(

Reaching out to see if any other members have gotten any threating emails sent to your personal email from andre12031948. He has made a point to threaten and make personal attacks on my family.

Glad you walked away from that accident, and sorry about the damage. :( (Glad for the banning of the troll as well; I can't express how angry seeing his posts in this thread made me.)
I'm curious what the insurance companies will say about this. If the light was yellow-turning-red before you moved to complete your turn, it's interesting she hit the back corner of your car. That might suggest she ran the red light or was darn close to doing so. It'd be interesting to see any skid marks or even *any* application of brakes, or an estimation on impact damage vs speed limit of the area. Still, the rules have to have a line somewhere, the typically they say left-turn must yield to oncoming lawful traffic. And while "point of no return" suggests a vehicle needs to stop on the approaching yellow to be safe, the real cut off is whether they entered the intersection when it was red or still yellow. Honestly, when in doubt, she should have been able to stop and not push it. I don't see any rain or snow in your location to change factors at all. Hopefully whatever she was hurrying for was worth more than the trouble of waiting 60 seconds for the next green light. This is one of those cases that makes me want a dashcam, but of course, it needs to have a large enough angle to include lights overhead/side. |
This is a public forum and members are going to have an opinion. It might be not be liked by the OP but that is life.
Glad the OP is OK, looks like a damn hard hit. :twocents: |
Accidents suck! I rear ended someone a couple years ago and it definitely reminded me to drive more safely. I now make sure my following distance is sufficient and that I drive well within my abilities on the street. Sometimes an accident can be a good reminder that it helps to be safer and never assume that others will as well. I'm looking forward to the accident dropping off my insurance in mid 2014!

damn man. glad you're ok. vegas drivers are terrible, the worst. i hate left turn yields as well. hope you're back in a Z asap
|
Thanks guys! I got called from the collision center and the damage is $16.6K. I'm currently in the market for another z or s2k, if I can talk the wifey into an s2k.

Its right on the borderline, I think 17k was about 70% of the total value. Also, the collision center guy said Nissan doesn't sell a certain 'crossmember' brace they'd need to fix it.

Sucks about what happened. I hear you about the whole "emotionally attached" to the car. Best part is you're okay, and I hope it all works out for you. |
My insurance has yet to look at it. They're supposed to today and I'll find out what they wanna do. Collision center guy couldn't say if they'd total it, Cuz he's not writing the check. He did say they'd have to due to the part not being sold by Nissan.

Reason being that once it's replaced, if you get into another accident, the odds of it not working ate much MUCH higher, and that risk and liability is on them... And guys, please, please do not bring up some BS stat saying insurance companies need it to be over xx% of the car's value to total it, we'll all just give different he said she said info. My Maxima was totaled out with 8k of damage and they paid out 28k. They total out based on the cost and liability to keep the car on the road. My Maxima had was in a flood, they totaled it because they said that over time problems will come up due to rust or many other things and it wasn't worth it. Makes sense. All that said, OP, push fora total loss. Say you don't trust anyone but the factory to install safety features in the car. Insurance should overpay you, so it won't be hard to get an equivalent or better 370Z very easily |
Just got notified yesterday that they're going to total it. Exactly what I was hoping for. The Hunt for a new z begins!
