N/A 370z

What is the fastest naturally asperated 370z to this day? just curious.. currently just got a job and saving money for modifications. only 17 so please do not bash on the just getting a job.

theDreamer 12-11-2013 02:06 PM

Define "fast"
Are we talking 1/4, around a auto-x track, full track, highest whp per dyno, other?

DEpointfive0 12-11-2013 02:15 PM

By the way, I think the "best" mod to make the 370Z fast is to change the gear ratio, problem is that MPGs go down.

NickTurnon 12-11-2013 02:18 PM

340whp or so N/A..

Dude, the one thing that will make your car noticably faster is driver education. Go AutoX that bitch for a year and then see what you feel needs upgrading. Do a muffler delete for some sound and then address power as your skill level comes up.

andre12031948 12-11-2013 02:52 PM

that would be quick

Learn how to drive it before you modify it. Younger drivers should work on driver skills first. I did some autoX in my late teens/early 20's. It taught me quite a bit and made me a much more skilled driver.

Haboob 12-11-2013 03:03 PM

Mine.

Take my word for it, it's all the proof you need.

I second that. My uncle who has been racing mustangs for 20+ yrs told me don't waste your money on upgrades yet, spend the $3k on a drivers school and it will improve your skills and times more than any mod alone. Since then i did AutoX for a year now and next year i am only dropping money on the crap that I NEED to further improve my times and skills. better Tires, true LSD, helmet, racing gloves, and a oil cooler. Fast cars are for drag racing and FAST DRIVERS are for road racing and AUTOX!

Driving

I think what Chuck33079 & Masterbeatty have to say, is some of the best, most sensible information on the subject of true driving. It seems EVERYONE " thinks" they know how to drive really well"........but ??? . (Me included)

Some people can drive well, some people can talk well, very few can do both.

I don't auto-x but a guy I work with helps run the local auto-x, the guy he works with there runs a darn near stock 93 vette and smokes everyone, the difference, he paid and went to a driving school, he has since done light suspension mods, but no power mods to date.

i think i fall into catagory 1

im a terrible talker, but i sure as hell can drive(or so i've been told

OP
first mods you should do is cooling followed by suspension and braking, but while you are doing that, learn to drive the car

Fountainhead 12-11-2013 09:23 PM

Do not make the 370Z your first car. It is too advanced for a first car owner. Buy another less powerful car and bounce it off a few things before you commit to the 370. After one year of driving another car rethink the 370.

If you were buying a motorcycle I'd suggest a smaller bike before a big one. Why? You will never learn certain subtleties where power compensates for mistakes.

Good luck.

He's already got it. We're now trying to talk him out of adding more power to it. :tiphat:

Now that he owns the car. Do not modify it yet. Get some professional instruction. This modification will stay with you forever. Auto cross might be a consideration too. Become an advanced driver and then add power.

:iagree:

AutoX is a great cheap starting point, and you can do it a lot. All it costs is brakes and tires, and you can go every month. Hands down the best money I've ever spent was a Skip Barber Racing School course, but those cost several grand.

When I started driving , the thing I always heard is " Its not the car, its the driver "

Guys in Little Miatas that have to spool up the engines to keep up with much faster cars normally have better lines, keep the car securely planted on the ground and know how to drive better than guys with fast cars.

I see it all the time. A dam Miata on everyones *** because the guy can drive. And then a guy in a GTR who holds everyone up in the chicanes and S's and then stomps on it in the straight away.

Learn to drive and about the car characteristics.

I got to do a ride along at a NASA open track day at PIR one day and it was in a Miata. We were holding our own and better on the infield, but when we got back onto turn 3 we were destroyed by this Viper. :icon17: ...and everything else that was behind us.

@ op -- if you do end up acquiring the z, I feel that considering your young age, the safest mod for you to consider would be the washer mod. I don't know what the hp gains are but from what I have heard they seem to be quite impressive.

1) You didn't read the thread.
2) Don't do the washer mod.. And I am the king of going cheap. P.S there aren't hp gains. Who do you hear from?

My instructor at Sebring DESTROYS 911's, ZO6's, M's, AMG's, Astons in my 370. Its 98% driver. Well in this case its 100%

You let your instructor drive your car? I don't think I would be ok with that. There is nothing like track time to teach you can't buy being fast around the track.

Of course I read the thread, I was just having fun. My apologies for you actually believing something so humorously ridiculous :-)

NickTurnon 12-12-2013 01:02 PM

I knew I smelled something fishy.. I just can't seem to sift thru the fakes anymore. Theres too many threads on the damn washers haha.

That sounds about right as I'm N/A and dyno'd at 310 wheel HP after getting an upRev and Fast Intensions exhaust.

Eclipz 12-12-2013 04:57 PM

There's probably some naturally aspirated Z's outside of this forum that have really high numbers. The JUN concept car has 380 HP. I'm wondering if there are any setups out there that are in the 400 range. 400 HP naturally aspirated Z revving to 8k RPM would be delicious.

Eclipz 12-12-2013 05:07 PM

Anyone want to fork up $25,000 for this?

500 HP Competition Naturally Aspirated Wet Sump System 4.5L Stroker Engine

BGTV8 12-12-2013 05:52 PM

The European FIA GT4 series 370Z makes ~440 hp with stock internals but different heads.

In the USA, the 370Z RC run by Doran Racing will make similar power. The Grand Sport series permits the cylinder head to be changed (use the HR head and not the VHR head) plus a dry-sump lubrication kit and long-tube headers and low-restriction exhaust (no cats).

These engines run at close to 9000 rpm which is where a lot of the power increase comes from.

Such an engine would not last very long in a road car though.

All I can say to the OP (based on over 40 years of involvement in competitive motorsport as a driver in state and national series, and a volunteer event/series official) if leave the car standard (brake pads and brake fluid apart), learn how to drive quickly (and there is no better place to start than AutoX) and when your times do not improve for two events on the trot, then think about firming up the suspension, then progress to stickier tyres and then when you have 2 events where you are not going quicker, think about a bit more torque (torque wins motorsport events, NOT horsepower).

RB

Yes, yes it would. We, "car guys", especially on the OTHER Z site, have been saying for years and years , a 400HP NA+, 350 at the wheel would be nice, same weight (fewer pounds ideal but we're realistic, lol), same balance, 7.5 redline is fine (8 would be secs) and base model starts at $30-31K. HID, LSD, 245-/275/40/18's (19's would be nice but...) same "quality" interior, a 6 to 7 inch, info screen would be nice, not nav but a basic MFD. Cruise control. Loaded, Coupe, non nismo,, $43K, all the bells and whistles. ehhh...amiright?
