i knew about the wheel noise prior to buying the car-drove 2 or 3 and it's audible as soon as you accelerate from a stop. i don't have ANY issues with the engine sound-that's frickin' awesome..... the 'ride' ie suspension is tight and focused, like a superior handling car should have so: engine sound, ride=good, wheelnoise=not so good. i find the car really sings at about 80 - 90 mph. it's like the aerodynamics result in the perfect road contact at those speeds. this i've noticed on the 'freeway'..... i don't track the car. but candidly if i didn't have to hear every pebble and raindrop i'd be a bit happier. i too enjoy music (why i bought a touring model-killer stereo) but i'd like to be able to use my ears in 5 or 10 years. wheel noise + sunno)) = deafness sooner than later.
so is this dynamat product a good approach to dampening the wheel noise? thanks r |

As for me its louder than the car I came from and it was a sports car too. So its all kinda subjective to what you drove before the Z. Im like one of the other guys who plays loud music so I dont hear it as much but when the wife is in the car (not very often) I can tplay the music loud and the road noise is very loud. Wnenever the next Z comes out it will be quiter Im sure. |
When I first got the car my initial thoughts where the ride is smoother than the 350 despite the stiffer suspension. And the road noise was about the same. But lately, I haven't been listening to the radio, instead I've been listening to the sweet noise the HFC's make. But now, I think the 370 definitely has more road noise(most likely due to bigger wheels and tires).

I always hear random noises in the car... like voices...
|
The tire noise... I will tell you right now bridgestones are noisy. I have a G37s, a altima 3.5 and I rent a Z on weekends sometimes from a sports & exotic car rental company. My cars and the rentals equipped with the Bstones are noisy. The altima is up for replacement and I am going to put michelin pilot sport a/s runflats on the car. They should make my altima perform better as well be quieter. Thinking of putting some lightweight 18x8 rims on it, drop n sway. Anyway, point is. Bstones are a mediocre tire.

Are you talking loud in as, engine/exhaust note or loud as in road noise?
Its not that bad. |
wow lol.. if yall think the 370z is loud. you need to atleast walk around a v8 from time to time.... even with test pipes and no mufflers the 350 nor the 370z is that loud. i personally can barely even hear my 370z unless im going wot. then again i drove a ls1 with headers/bullet mufflers so my definition of loud is alittle different
|
its real loud then u r running over these little sands on the road. and somewhat feel like in airplane while running high-way.... but i dont care lol
|
I also agree that the g37 coupe is not better in all ways than the g35 coupe... Interior Design is the one and only thing that I think the g37 has over the G35... The g37 is heavy and rides really nice yes, but the performance is really hindered by its extra weight. Stock for Stock the a 2005 G35 Sport looks nicer imo than the 09 g37s.
But the 370z isnt all that loud compared to the 350 but the interior noise is definatly more than the average car Id say. |

Lots of great men heard voices, Einstein heard voices....... We're normal as hell......... :ugh2: |
It's music to my ears...
|
This car is quiet and plush compared to my Mazdaspeed3.
|
I like to hear the engine on a sports car I'd hope its loud!
|
My thoughts. At idle the 350 sounded better. the 370 is very quiet at idle.
the sound's at higher revs are different for each car,but both are great. hands down the 370 has a smoother ride. i think most of the road noise comes from the crappy bridgestone tires. i have no rattles or other issues (knock on wood) anyway anyone who has owned both will tell you the 370 is twice the car the 350 is except for the 350 drivers. |
Is it loud? It depends on the person. My parent thought it was loud and uncomfortable. I didnt think so. So I put in an intake, hfc and an hks exhaust. Wonder what would they think after I put in some coilover. LOL

When we got back from the test drive, my wife asked the salesman, "Is he going to buy it?" The salesman replied, "Oh Yeah!" He was right. I drove that car home 2 hours later. In short, try the car. You will know whether or not you want it right away. |

It's definitely tire related. Most of the SouCal freeways are grooved surfaces and the howling noise is horrendous on long trips. You can really tell about the interaction of the tires and the road when you suddenly hit a mile or two of smooth asphalt and the noise level drops about 20 db. A tire's noise level rating will be very high on my criteria when it is time for new ones. I wasn't expecting the 370Z to have an interior noise level like a big Lexus but it does detract from the comfort on long freeway touring and also makes conversation a bit difficult at times.

define "ride".
the stock 370z drive-ability is more refined. my friends who have a 350 were surprised with the overall smoothness of the vehicle. Sometimes.....i even doze off (danger danger! thank God still alive) and start drifting.... ugh..too tired these days. there are those who say the "ride" is rough because of the transmission. with my auto i notice the vehicle sometimes acting a bit rough as the car is slowing down to a red traffic light. mainly due to the transmission downshifting through the gears. others complain about the roughness of the manual shifting during the vehicles infant days...eventually it goes away (or something like that). define "loud" can't really argue against the road noise complaint. I've driving mercedes and toyotas in the past and hell yeah, its loud. Especially in the rain....you can hear the water like crazy... Jeremy Clarkson even made a point about noise in Top Gear. but! the stock oem and nismo exhaust are extremely quiet compared to the 350z. imo, Nissan FAILED on this. but that's just me. It's okay. I'll just get a louder one. but at the end of the day you know you buy a 370z for its raw-ness and brute power...which normally don't come with comfort and quietness. *edit* just realized how old this post was.....lol |
Here is my take on the noise factor..
The engine is as quiet as a mouse most of the time except when you floor it and then you hear those mighty horses roar..Its all around wonderful. Engine noise is not the problem for me.. for me its the noise of the tires on the road which is really, really unpleasant. You have to talk loud to be heard by someone sitting right next to you and it really detracts from the enjoyment of the ride not to mention the radio. Of course a lot depends on the road but i have to say this is one area where I give a rating of Very Unsatisfactory.. but the good news seems to be that it can be fixed. I went to a car audio installation store the other day and they say they do this sound dampening all the time. In this case involves placing some kind of sound dampening material in the rear. Its going to cost $700 for material and labor which I am not happy about. However, if this works, and I have every confidence it will, and I get the road noise down to a reasonable level, it will be worth every penny and I will confidently state that the Nissan 370z is the greatest car in the world! Beautiful style, excellent performance and a fun factor that is off the charts!! I feel like a kid at Christmas!! I will let you know how things go. They operate next Monday Nov 1st. |
Not to loud
My daily driver is a BMW325ci very quite. My wife and I drive together in work everyday.
I have had the 370z for a week We took a 2 hour drive. My wife and I have no complaints. The car does not have the growl of my Old E-Type but the hard ride is to be expected. I also had a 280z. I enjoy my 370. I had the opportunity to purchase a preowned Corvette 2000 or a 2001 911 or a 2006 Cayman. I chose the Z price ,performance ,looks ,handling. I do not mind the limited rode noise. I am 51 so perhaps my heraing is not as good as it once was. |
I want to sound like a giant scraping his feet upon a side building, whereas the humans worship the ground I walk on.
