When to do performance mods?

I'm lamenting the lack of funds to do some of the bigger ticket bolt-on modifications so I thought I'd start a poll. What are your thoughts about mod timing?

There's no golden rule. It comes down to what and when you want them. It is your car, after all.

I don't know what lamenting means, but doesn't sound good

So I guess when you're going to stop lamenting, maybe that might be a good time to give mods a thought.

My thought process on this subject goes a little like this...Keep it stock until you get bored of the car. Then start nodding keeping it NA. Once you get bored of that then it's time to go FI. After FI get a nitrous hook up. After that it'll be time for a new car lol

Keep it stock until after you have started autox/track days. Get a feel for what you actually care to change/improve.

Warranty is a non-issue.

Some performance mods will not void warranty.

Riptide67 12-08-2013 12:45 PM

I went with performance before I did anything visual. I knocked out most of the high cost bolt ons first. Followed by suspension, wheels, and visual.

My build is coming to a slow down since I have purchased nearly everything I want aside from boost. That will come late next year.

Poll results pretty much tell the tail. I believe if you are going to do them, do them ASAP so you can enjoy them.

whenever you have the need of doing it... also when you have the funds...

RonRizz 12-08-2013 04:26 PM

How about in 3...2......1........GO!

zeeder 12-08-2013 08:58 PM

Thanks for the responses. After reading about how mods only alter the warranty if the mod caused the damage makes me feel much more at ease.

Masterbeatty 12-08-2013 09:12 PM

Immediately if not sooner! It all depends on what you want or like.

What sort of performance mods afford you the comfort of warranty protection? Is it more a question of who installs/manufactures the parts? I've been thinking I would like breathing/cooling mods... maybe a real pumpkin.

Your warranty cannot be voided for an aftermarket part. A warranty claim may be denied based on an aftermarket part, but they have to show that the mod caused the problem. For example,if you install an aftermarket radiator and the transmission fails, they will replace the transmission under warranty. If you install an aftermarket radiator and it cracks, leaks out your coolant, you overheat and blow a head gasket, they will deny the claim.
