Farewell, Fairlady.....

I traded in my Z for a 'Vette today. I have to say the Z is an awesome car. It is refined in it's performance, a fun and pleasant car to own and drive, but we just never really connected.
2 years ago, I traded my Mustang GT for the Z and had buyer's remorse until I picked up the keys to my new car. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing bad to say about the Z, or any other foreign car for that matter, it just isn't my cup of tea. It wasn't for a lack of trying. In the 2 years I had my car, I racked up over 32,000 miles...each one enjoyable...and it would easily have been more if I wasn't trying not to drive it into the ground. It was always a fine sight to see when walking through the parking lot and caching the 2/3 profile view of the Z. I would often peek into the garage to catch a view...it really is a pretty car.
The Z community, especially the guys and girls on this forum, are a great bunch of people. I wish I could have been as enthusiastic about the car as most of you are. I met a lot of interesting people here and made a few friends. I learned a lot from the people on this forum. I tackled some mods and got more than a few technical answers here.
I'll probably continue to lurk around here, because it is an interesting forum, but now I'll be a real outsider....one that drives a 'Vette!!

Enjoy the 'Vette!

Akbubba47 12-03-2013 07:43 PM

Sorry to hear about the small peepee. See ya later. Jk. But honestly, I'd never own a vette or a mustang. Mustangs I won't even get into that subject lol. And vettes are overpriced. I had a full vette swap in a Nissan 240sx. Loved it. But to actually own a vette id rather so many cars over it in that price range. Regardless good luck with it, the color is beautiful and I'm sure it'll be fun for a long time.

JWillis72 12-03-2013 07:45 PM

I have never been a vette fan but after being on the track with them at Sebring and seeing how they get around the track they are growing on me. I hope you love it!

kenchan 12-03-2013 07:47 PM

Nice Z.

kfull 12-03-2013 07:49 PM

Good luck with the vette, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

zeeder 12-03-2013 07:54 PM

Congrats on the new ride! I may have to look into a C7 as my next car but it'll be a few years.

Jasonle 12-03-2013 07:54 PM

Nice color choice!

RonRizz 12-03-2013 07:58 PM

Sweet! Love the color, too

gbrettin 12-03-2013 07:59 PM

Wanna sell your tow hook?

Trips 12-03-2013 08:13 PM

Congrats on the Vette, She does look pretty!!!

/Angelo350Z/ 12-03-2013 08:16 PM

Congrats on the purcahse OP. The Vette certainly is a superior car. I understand what you mean about not bonding with your car. I somewhat feel the same about my 370Z, which is a bit annoying because I've always instantly felt the bond with my previous Z cars. In fact, I haven't driven my Z in over 3 weeks. Maybe I'm just geting old.

Firebase99 12-03-2013 08:22 PM

I would never trade down my '13Z for a 07 C6. My buddy has one (track car only-hes has a few bimmers for DD), modded all to hell, we run at Sebring and he's fast!! Its just so...blah. Even with his mods he's bored and agrees the Z is more fun. Not as fast but more fun. Not a Z nuthugger, he thinks his 135 is more fun too. Its just the C6, getting a bit long in the tooth.

Edit: Sorry, didnt mean to sound like a pretentious twat, enjoy the ride, its still a cool car. Just not my cup of tea.

Over-priced?! My buddy picked up a 2006 with 40,000 miles for 25k and we just found a 2008 Z51 fully loaded with 24k miles for 28k. Just gotta know where to look!

Very nice car OP! They are so much fun to drive! :tiphat:

axmea? 12-03-2013 08:41 PM

Sorry to hear about your midlife situation but congrats on the vette. Seriously, hope you connect with the Vette.

You seem to forget what forum you're on! This place hates on anything that isn't a Z. :p

Vette definitely isnt overpriced. In my opinion, its a fairly cheap car for what you get performance wise, it's just not my style, just like the Z wasnt the OPs.

Congrats on the new ride. Enjoy!

OldFart 12-03-2013 10:45 PM

Did you pick up the new lady at Stoudt's? A few months ago had been eyeing up an Atomic Orange one they had down there.

fzgood 12-03-2013 11:02 PM

Hope the new car brings you the joy your Z didn't. It is a looker. Best of luck!

cv129 12-03-2013 11:25 PM

I've owned 24 cars. Only 2 of them were Z's. I'm not hating on his choice. Just said it wasn't for me. I do feel it's overpriced. More directly towards the price they cost new vs the rapid depreciation the vehicle suffers. Let that be disputed, I'll wait.

I don't think age has anything to do with it. It's just a chemistry thing. It's like dating a super hot chick that you don't have anything in common with. It's great for the first week or so, then you just want to move on.

No, I think that one's still at Stoudt's. I live only a couple miles from there. He has nice inventory, but doesn't like to deal on price much.

Fountainhead 12-04-2013 08:58 AM

I have always thought of Vettes as grandpa cars, I'm 53 and that opinion hasn't changed much. I've never seen a young guy driving one, but I guess that's an opinion not a fact.
I don't begrudge you wanting one but they just never have appealed to me, don't know why, they are definitely badass haulass cars for sure.
If you like having one I'm proud for you.
Stick around and keep us up to date on your experience.

TheGreatOne 12-04-2013 09:11 AM

Have fun with the Vette, sorry you never connected with the Z.

I have to say the Z06 has grown on me, mainly ones I've seen that were black on black, but friend had a beautiful ZR1 Vette in red with lots of CF and that thing was beautiful. Interior was much improved on the last one (not as cheap looking)

Honestly if I had to consider another sports car and it wasn't a Z, it would probably be a Z06 with a ZR1 kit or an Audi TT RS

Mt Tam I am 12-04-2013 10:53 AM

If I go 'vette, it will be a C7.

The OP got a faster car for little money. Nice job.

m4a1mustang 12-04-2013 10:56 AM

The point people are missing is that in the forum's heyday we didn't treat departing members like this. When someone decided to move on there was no, "wow, this car sucks," or "what a downgrade" talk. Instead it was a simple, "good luck!" and we moved on.

When someone spends time on the forum to participate and contribute I think we at least owe them a bit of respect. There's no need to denigrate someone's choice. It's not an A vs. B thread... it's a "Hey guys, thanks, I had fun!" thread.

Some still get it, many don't. But I digress...

Red__Zed 12-04-2013 10:57 AM

Good looking Vette. Enjoy it!

StangerGT 12-04-2013 12:08 PM

ditto

ElVee 12-04-2013 12:46 PM

Grats on the trade, and hope you enjoy it!

Just curious, what compares favorably against the Z that makes the Corvette better for you?

I know that will be trollbait for some, but I'm always genuinely curious and totally respect someone else's opinion, even if I don't share it.

TerribleONE 12-04-2013 12:49 PM

Not my cup of tea but hey as long as you enjoy it thats what matters! I am serious you will appreciate the LS

NS370Z 12-04-2013 01:31 PM

Congrats on the Vette.:driving:

The way I see it enjoy what you have. If you are fortunate to one day move up in the echelon of things, good for you. But please don't be a hater, not everyone has to like what you like.

OP, congrats on the vette. Maybe I will find myself in a C7 Z06 one day. One can only hope 'til then it is the Z life for me. :tiphat:
