Back in the day when I had my EVO 8 I swore that my next sports car wouldn't be my only car to drive. So I only drive it when its nice, plus I have kids and all the activities that goes with that.

When I contemplate getting a new car, I stop and ask myself, "Can I have $30K more fun than my current Z?" That Corvette C7 will continue to tempt me more, because the current answer to my own question is, NO.

Ok let me know what you think. I am thinking about trading in my 2010 40th anniversary in on a 2013 Black ZL1 Camaro. Its a very nice loaded car and very powerful with 580hp! I am still up in the air about it and not sure if I should just sell my Z cause they are only going to give me $25,000 for it which is making me not want to do it. I don't know I am just asking but what would someone give me for it. My Z only has 11,000 miles and is loaded. Has the Fast Intentions high flow cats with the 18" exhaust, Kenwood Dvd,Garmin Nav and Backup Camera. Z1 Wheel Spacers, Clear bra, HPS Intake Tubes with K&N Filters, Huper Optik Tint. And this car is clean!! never ever driven in the rain!! never eaten or smoked in the car!! never wrecked, only drive it on nice weekends. and probably only put maybe 900 miles on it this year!

you should buy the camaro and keep your Z for a few months. then decide wat to do with your Z... or camaro for that matter.
i bought my Z while keeping my G just in case. was going to sell the G when i felt the time was right.

well, 4yrs later i still have my Z and G. :icon17:

If you said the Corvette, even a ZL1 C6, I would have said yes.

But like many others, some features in the Camaro don't thrill me, also the fact that you said it will only get weekend action, if that. Not sure its worth the trouble of selling the Z and then getting the Camaro. Sure its nice to know its in the Garage but still.

I'm worried about the same thing as we are working on number 2. its tricky enough to get Z time already, will be worse with 2 kids.

Heck, just to drive my Z, I often drop my kid to daycare in my Forester, then hurry back home to switch cars to the Z which means I am paying downtown parking. Its a crazy sacrifice for all this Z love lol.

Really is a good point. Hard to find a car in this price range that gets you the looks and thrills the Z does! I'm feeling the market out right now, if someone comes by I may just let it go.. won't be easy tho :(

IMO I would stick with the Z strictly for the total fun factor and the interior. I tried a ZL1 during fun runs at an auto-x event and it was a pig to throw around. The Z offers fun in all categories, while the ZL1 is straight line power only for the most part. Plus, the interior is to open and wide for me. I like the feel of a more enclosed tight cockpit.

I've been a GM owner (Camaro, Corvette, etc) for almost 40 years. While the 'retro' look is nice to look at on the Camaro, it doesn't handle like the Z does. The only GM car that comes close or exceeds the Z is the Corvette, but at a price point that is at least $30K above the Z, it's not a good buy, IMHO. I'm glad I chose the Z, lovin' the sheer fun factor of driving it. :)

The ZL1 is big for autoX, but it is far from a "straight line only" car.

Just to mention...The Camaro is already a car that isn't all that special when you see one on the road, or when you're walking to it in the parking lot. ZL1 or not, no one notices the difference other than enthusiasts.

The Z, though, is going to be a looker and pretty unique for many, many years.

I bet you could rent a ZL1 and try it out for a week!

Wow so far not too many good comments or reasons to get the ZL1.
As far as handling the suspension is way better than the 370z. It has the magnetic shocks the same ones on the Z06 and CTS-v. Now I think the Z handles good but might be stretching a bit saying its better. Look at the you tube video of that beast on a track and you might think differently, even with all that weight. Keep the comments coming cause it helps me to decide with everyone's opinions.

You should expect some bias towards the Z here... The ZL1 looks fun as hell but I don't think it is worth paying an extra 30ish thousand for. That's just me though.

I like Camaros and ZL1 definitely is an upgrade. But sounds like you want zl1 for street driving. No problems with that and it may be even a better daily than the Z. (more space, not as low to get into).
Just all depends on your finances and if you will still be happy with it 6 months from now when you see z/28's or another upgrade of it.

But on a side note I call dibs on the fast intentions exhaust being that we are both in the same city.

I was comparing it to the Z, that is why I said "for the most part". I agree it has other pros, but for me, not enough to overcome the Z.

zefaulter 12-02-2013 06:06 PM

What is the point of this trade? More power? Better handling? Do you prefer the look of a camaro over our Z? Just want to spend money? :D
If power is the motivating factor, boost the Z. If it's power and handling, add coilovers... I don't know if it'll be as good/better/worse, it's just an idea. If you are thinking about getting a camaro to begin with, you will probably get it.

a lot of the video's showing the ZL1 on the track show the car using the motor to power its way through the corners not using its suspension so much. Camaros are known for the heavy body roll but solid straight line speed. Now thats not to say you could mod it to be a stiff car since aftermarket parts for this car are easy to find and cheap. As far as uniqueness factor (meaning how often you see them on the street 1 being the most etc etc.) they are not very
