Considering a Nismo!!

Hello everyone!! im currently still in the market for a 370z and i recently found a 2012 Nismo with 18K miles, only thing is its about 3 hours from where i live but the dealership offered to bring it to town for me. Asking price is $32K (34 OTD) and i was offered $9K for my car, only problem is they want $500 down payment in order for them to bring it from the other dealership :ugh2:
What do you guys think of the price? also i know that this question will receive a lot of hate since it's been asked several times, but i'm also looking at a 2010 sports touring.. cheaper of course, not sure what to go for! any help would be appreciated :tiphat:

EDIT: $500 is non-refundable. Kinda worried that the car might have some issues that the dealership isn't telling me about

kenchan 11-11-2013 01:53 PM

is that $500 refundable if you dont like the car?

MJB 11-11-2013 02:45 PM

Why not just drive down there to check it out? Its only 3 hours. When I bought my Nismo, I had to drive 550 miles to go get it (El Paso to San Antonio)... 500 bucks is an expensive risk.

Tazrek 11-11-2013 02:51 PM

id take the drive.....I drove 2 and a half hours for mine. then you get to have a long drive home all by yourself.....and the Nismo:driving::happydance:

kenchan 11-11-2013 02:59 PM

true... 3hrs isn't that long of a drive. take some painter's tape with you so do you can tape up the front of the car and side mirrors for your drive back after purchase.

UNKNOWN_370 11-11-2013 03:37 PM

I would see how much I can get a 13/14 nismo for...

I totally agree with this. It might cost you $100 on gas and your time. But compare to the $500 risk I'd drive down to check it out in person.

Also on Nismo vs Sports touring, if you really like the exclusive look of the Nismo then go for the Nismo. Otherwise, sports touring might be a good choice for you. I am trying not to be biased and I hope I didn't start something here...

God-Speed 11-11-2013 03:45 PM

I agree with the other guys by driving to check it out. I would even ask them if you drive to come and check it out instead of them bringing it to you, if they would take another $500 off the price since you are coming to them. Never hurts to ask..

nhbpcivicsi 11-11-2013 03:45 PM

i would prefer to go see it myself, but.. full time student in the morning, and working every night of the week (even weekends) :roflpuke2:
i also already dealt with my local dealer and im not sure how the whole trade-in thing would work out if i end up going down there myself..
I think the Nismo would be more suitable for me because it already has all the mods that i wanted to do to the sport touring, except maybe a bit lower

olddudesrule 11-11-2013 08:33 PM

I think the price is decent. I paid $32k for my 2012 Nismo about 6 months ago with 10k miles on the clock. That was the OTD price since it was a private party sale. I'd say go for it if a Nismo is what you want.

that's one heck of a deal you got! wish I could find a local private nismo

I understand your busy and all ( wasn't that long ago I was in school) but personally I would wait until I could make the drive. Take a day off of work or skip your morning classes or see if a friend who knows cars can take a look. No would would I chance $500. Like you said, what if there is a problem with the car they haven't mentioned because to them it isn't important. Now you are out $500. Doesn't make sense why they would do that, but if that's their position I wouldn't chance it.

The other problem I see, and this is just me, but I wouldn't want someone else driving my brand new sports car 3hrs to transport it. Who knows how they will drive it or how much "fun" they will have in it. If I was paying $500 for transport of the car I would want it trucked and insured against loading/unloading damage and rock chips. An enclosed trailer would be best.

Just my 2 cents but I'm rather particular about my cars.

I was thinking the same exact way regarding who will be driving the car.. I wanted them to put it on a truck but they said that it will cost an extra $700 :bowrofl: . They also assured me that a +70 years old guy would be driving the car just so he doesn't go all crazy with it.
The thing that comforts me when I think of any possible issues with the car is the fact that the car has full warranty and is fully covered, so even if there is anything wrong it will be fixed! not that I want it to have any problems or anything..

cv129 11-11-2013 10:01 PM

70 yr old guy that used to drag race and no lift shifts?

Dealership "assurance"...since when that means anything?

So answer this....say you camp out at the meeting location and you discover the driver is a 30 yr old. Will you still buy the car? If you say yes to them driving the car, then you must mentally prepared for this possibility.

tnav 11-11-2013 10:43 PM

where is the car? maybe one of us members can check it out for you and tell you if it is worth it, I know I would do it for someone else

nhbpcivicsi 11-12-2013 08:51 AM

Too late I already paid the $500 :ughdance: turns out it will count towards the original price if I end up buying it, but I sure will be camping by thr dealership waiting for it to arrive :bowrofl:

Good luck man! And keep us posted!

nhbpcivicsi 11-13-2013 06:57 PM

the nismo finally came in today! gotta say exterior and performance wise the nismo definitely wins, but I was kinda disappointed at how poorly constructed the interior is for the nismo compared to the sports touring :/ . Guess i'll still be going for the nismo for the sexy looks, also there was a couple red flags with the car, first the front skirt/spoiler was unclipped from the corner, and paint fading in another area.. will be posting pictures soon hopefully!

kenchan 11-13-2013 07:08 PM

i wouldnt want to pay over $30K with those problems. have the dealer fix both issues prior to delivery.

I went for The Nismo for the exterior looks. If I wanted a nice interior, I'd just get a new Hyundai for half the price. :p

As for the exterior, just tell the dealership if they fix those problems, you will take it. The skirt issue sounds like it's just missing a clip. Faded paint on a 12? Are you sure it wasn't just dirty?

I showed great signs of frustrations when I saw these problems with the car, which made the dealer announce right away that they will be fixing everything for no charge :icon18: plus a detailing/wash/wax job lol

:iagree: but wouldn't it be nice to have both exterior sexiness and interior luxury :rofl2: as for the paint, its probably not faded.. for some reason my phone won't allow me to post pictures, but I will do so as soon as I get off work

Agree. This is why i didn't get the Nismo. I couldn't stand the interior and to an extent, the rear spoiler. The non-US Nismos could be had with nav, if only they offered it in the US.

Either way good luck with the purchase!

Yeah its a tough decision. I still want the Nismo more though because although the sports touring looks good, the looks of the Nismo is just pure sexiness! I cant think of a better looking car within that price range honestly.. the spoiler isn't that big of an issue to me, I was a little bothered by how loud the Nismo exhaust is when ur over 4K rpm

I love the Nismo wheels. Hoping to find a decent to put on mine.

The stock Nismo exhaust isn't loud at all. After a few months you'll be looking at CBEs....that's hows I was!

The Nismo exhaust shouldn't be VERY loud. Although loud is subjective, I'd suggest you to check if it IS a nismo exhaust or aftermarket exhaust. Also check if it's stock cats or HFCs or test pipes. HFCs/TPs can make the exhaust note louder then stock. You want a stock Nismo not a modified Nismo.

I assumed its the nismo exhaust because the tips are nismo.. but when i jacked the car up today i noticed some welding, im not sure if the stock nismo exhaust has welding but this one does.. it sounds good regardless.

Maybe it's muffler delete? In any case, as long as you like it it's the most important.

I wanted a Nismo briefly. If I was a young man I'd have gotten it. As I am not, I chose the creature comforts of the Touring and had to have the sports package as well. This package has worked well for me.

Good luck.

:bowrofl::roflpuke2: Just ignore him.:rofl2:

Oh wait... Maybe he is right?!:ugh2:

Basically, the washer mod is people adding extra washers to the exhaust pipes to create a exhaust leak making the exhaust sound louder and better. Elanshimoto washer mod is just a fancy name for the washer mod.:inoutroflpuke:

b15 11-16-2013 10:30 AM

It could have the actual Nismo CBE on it. Are the pipes/muffler stainless steel/shiny?

to be honest, I don't even remember what it looked like lol, if you show me a picture of the actual exhaust on another nismo i'll probably be able to tell you if it was the same one or not

nhbpcivicsi 11-16-2013 04:01 PM

im thinking its not the Nismo exhaust since it has two mufflers, which Im pretty sure the nismo only have 1 muffler that is connected to the tips.. kinda disappointed, didn't want a modified nismo

The first picture is an oem nismo exhaust. The second picture is a typical aftermarket exhaust. You sure it's not an oem nismo exhaust?

im thinking the previous owner did a muffler delete because it looks very similar to the oem nismo but its more like straight pipes throughout the whole thing instead of the muffler being connected to the tips.. is that a common thing to do?

Yea muffler delete is pretty common. The oem nismo exhaust has "nismo" marks on the tips. That will tell you if it's oem or aftermarket.

Mine does have the 'nismo' marks on the tips, but the tips are connected with straight pipes and not the muffler... im guessing this is mainly to make it sound more aggressive, because there is no way Nissan would produce something this loud :ughdance:

Yup muffler delete.
