F that! His wheels have already been stolen once... I'd rather prevent it from happening again then try and catch the guys in the act. My opinion, of course.

Sounds like these guys learned their lesson, after setting off the neighborhood this time. Maybe they'll get a job now and earn their cash.

I doubt that. They are probably the same guys.

So, as you all know, three months ago between the hours of 12am and 6am my sport wheels/tires were stolen right off of my car in the driveway (if you don't know this story, backtrack through my thread and look at my second picture album). Since then, I've added three different sets of wheel locks (two of which are spinning wheel locks), an alarm and infrared sensors around the perimeter of my house.

WELL, last night at 2am the sensors went off. I jumped to the window to see a man wearing all black and a black hoodie covering his head standing next to my car. Frantically, I looked around for my keys (which happened to be in the other room) and set the alarm off. By that time, the guy had left my driveway and walked around the block. Through the commotion, my next door neighbor came out and said he saw the guy get into a old car and they drove off. I called the police, who showed up only minutes later. I filled out a report and they continued to search the area for about an hour after the incident.

My thoughts on the thieves' MO (assuming it's the same guys):

1. My wheels were stolen on an early Tuesday morning (12am-6am) three months ago. Last night (Tuesday morning), the thief was standing in my driveway at ~2am.

2. They scout out my house, looking for a pattern of when I am home.

3. They choose an early time when they know everyone in the house is in bed and park their car around the block.

4. One guy gets out and walks to my house to make sure everything is clear and see if I've added an alarm/wheel locks/other security measures.

5. If okay, he walks back to the car and the other guys get out to do their thing. Five minutes later, they're gone with the goods and I'm left with an upcoming 2 weeks worth of headache.

So, if you don't have access to a garage, make sure you've got other means of protection. These cars are still so new that thieves will take any advantage they can. BE ON ALERT!

Again, I have a garage, and that's where my Z stays.

I've thought about installing a camera system around my house. 3 in the front one in the back...this in addition to improving my alarm system on my house...

Just a matter of money... =/

I agree, with the number of security crap he's got on the wheels now, it's slow them down - then again, maybe that's what they were doing was checking to see how much of a pita it'd be...maybe it'd be easier to steal the whole car...(well, until they realize the FOB prevents that)

That's all security stuff does anyway - just makes the criminal think there must be an easier target and move on.

kenchan 10-27-2009 12:00 PM

if i was going to park my Z outside i would get a proximity and tilt sensor installed. :)

there are more than just a few scum bags in the world.... if team1 fails, there is team2 to 100000000000. :D

garage your Z if you can. :)

StLRedrider 10-27-2009 12:46 PM

holy shitt, this is the first i seen of this thread i want to say sorry for the bad luck, i had some stuff stolen from me once, nothing worst than walking out to your vehicle and seeing that someone messed with. i sure hope they catch the jack offs that are stealing peoples hard earned belongings.

speedoflife 10-27-2009 12:55 PM

Man I feel for you. Just keep it up and hopefully you will get them. I HATE it when my stuff gets stolen. At least they didn't get you this time.

Yeah, unfortunately, my landlord is taking up all of the garage space so I am forced to leave my baby in the driveway at the mercy of anyone daring enough to try and steal her. I'm going to get a tilt sensor installed, but I hear proximity sensors are more headache than anything due to too many false alarms.

And thanks again to everyone's support. Just make sure you keep an eye on your Z if it has to stay outside like mine. I live in a good area, so it just goes to show that you don't have to live in a bad neighborhood for this kind of crap to happen. :shakes head:

Can your landlord do that? I mean, unless it's in your lease agreement, as far as I know, you're leasing the whole property - that's how those things work - he can rent a space from a storage unit place...

I should have clarified before: my landlord lives on the first floor and I live on the second floor.

texmedic 10-27-2009 10:19 PM

man thats sucks bro. I really feel for you! Lookin at those pics made me cringe. I agree with Togo and that sexxy a$$ Sig! I hear P220s can cure many human behavior issues! Really though its a tough situation if you're still parking in the same spot. Sorry again though...

Smallywood 10-27-2009 10:32 PM

Sorry about the theft bro. If they get them again, buy the Nismo Rays as replacements...

IMWEZL 10-28-2009 04:38 AM

Man that sucks. I keep some bird shot loaded in the shotgun but I live out in Hawaii and they have some ridiculous laws about personal protection. They let one guy go to a mental institution after he broke in, killed the wife/daughter and stabbed the husband.

LOL SPEED I wont come stealing stuff from your house anytime soon. lol

NYBladeZ 12-13-2009 11:52 AM

So after reading this whole thread it looks like the only good deterrant is the lojack system? I like the multiple wheel lock idea but do you guys think it will actually hold up? Thank god for living in a gated community but my inlaws live in queens with no garage...

I don't think a lojack will be a deterrant or prevent anyone from stealing a set of wheels. To me a good set of wheels locks, good alarm and a garage is your best bet.

There are also regular wheels lug nuts that comes with a different pattern, it will act like wheels locks.

NYBladeZ 12-13-2009 03:09 PM

are the dealer wheel lock any good? Damn Nissan I wish they would have included them, anyone know how much they run for?

nogoodname 12-13-2009 03:19 PM

The oem wheel lock is garbage, anyone can buy the key and steal all g's and z's rims.

NYBladeZ 12-13-2009 05:52 PM

so what is the most dependable wheel lock out there?

dudafunk 12-13-2009 06:41 PM

So what town on Long Island did this happen in? (How's Centereach in terms of reputation? Moved here 5 months ago and gonna get a Z.. lol). Fortunately I have a garage.

Now, does your insurance premium go up in the future after claiming money after this theft, the way it does if you meet with an accident? (I'm hoping that it doesn't). And if it doesn't, then besides a 2-3 week headache/paper work etc., its really okay right? You get it all back...

This happened in Huntington. No, you're premium doesn't go up, but you do have to pay your deductible. In my case, it was $500, but that's better than having to pay the whole $8K out of pocket.

NYBladeZ 12-13-2009 07:00 PM

huntington is generally a nice place but there is a lot of traffic around the train station. I'm not suprised man, with the volume of people and the amount of cars that get parked there things are bound to happen, happy to hear it was resolved next time those dude's come around just call the cops.

Pharmacist 12-13-2009 07:47 PM

out of curiosity, how did the tow truck driver jack up the car to be able to install the temporary wheels? doesn't seem like there's any room for a jack under the car

yeah, but how did he lift it? what did he jack up against?

G35guy84 12-14-2009 10:57 AM

He used the small jack he brought with him and just hoped that the car didn't roll over to the other side.

370Zsteve 12-14-2009 11:05 AM

Go with this and add the optional M-203 grenade launcher. Bullets are for sissies.

Murderers don't even get that these days.

koeppelnissan 02-22-2010 08:49 PM

We've had so many customers with stolen wheels, mostly Maximas but a few Z's. Hopefully it stops now that these guys are locked up!

Have you considered becoming a registered forum sponsor? It would be a great opportunity for rimlox to interact with this community, where wheel theft has become an issue.
