I have been on this forum for quite some time but recently it has gotten out of hand lol. In the past weeks I've realized the sale of my z is not going well and maybe i should just keep it. This has caused me to spend countless hours researching mods from painting calipers to supercharging:ugh2: My girlfriend has grown more and more annoyed with my obsession in the Z and my only response is because....Racecar:driving:? Anyone else been getting the feeling maybe they have surpassed the limit of interest in their car to maybe being obsessed ?

I find humor in it but after realizing i've been looking at wheels and clutches for 8 hours I'm like :hello: this is a sickness lol

Feel free to follow on instagram danz394 !

you still a newb if you're still questioning that. :shakes head:

The fact that so many members also have really slick customized Zs doesn't help the affliction. ha ha.

I'd say if you were going to keep the car then slow your roll. Plan to do a small mod a month and then every couple of months do something more expensive. Enjoy the car and go for a drive with your girl.

The internet is the devil!

It has cost me lots of money and time!

Perhaps you should seek professional advice?

andre12031948 10-31-2013 12:30 PM

calipers need to be painted red before you start looking for a cure.

nhbpcivicsi 10-31-2013 12:38 PM

All things in moderation. Enjoy a little time with the Z, a little female companionship, a little work, a little sports, etc. Gotta' have balance and keep everything in proportion. If you feel things getting out of control, consult a therapist---seriously.
You have to feel in control of your life.

word of advice, if the girl is giving you **** for your hobby and making you feel bad for it, ditch the girl and get a new one

girls like that will try to change who you are and imo, thats nothing but bad news down the road

SPOHN 10-31-2013 02:09 PM

Post pic of GF. Then we'll judge from there on.

Depends on the girl. If she's a good catch, he will regret this much later in life. She just needs some attention.
Trust me...the older you get the less good single women around.

I wouldn't call dumping money into an na entry level sports car much of a hobby. Its more a waste of money. Is he planning to take it to the track or autocross it???

That's your opinion. Some people may view a hobby such as pottery as a "waste of money". I don't like pottery but I certainly don't call it a waste money or time. What may seem as a waste to you isn't to others. I enjoy my hobby of modding my car. It's not all about trying to get the fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile time. :tiphat:

kenchan 10-31-2013 03:19 PM

yah, i mean, less than $2 you can have a nice sounding exhaust.

Well to have that branding on it, the price will jump to about $200 for Elanshimoto Racing washers. ;)

well if you think its good to change yourself just so you can be with someone than more power to you

i believe someone should love you the way you are and shouldnt try to change you

also what is wasting money to you is someone's investment and joy, this is far from an entry level sports car(try miata or FRS as entry level) imo and i dont think its a waste of money to modify it

Dead on, but let's not pretend anything we do with a car is an investment. Usually, it devalues the car unless you return it to stock before you sell it. Would you buy a modded car? I guess yeah, it's technically a waste of money since you don't need to mod a car, but it's worth it to me to have a project.

well of course you lose money when modding a car but it isnt a waste since its your enjoyment

technically all people need is food, clothes, and shelter, anything outside of those 3 things is technically a waste of money; but there is the enjoyment factor of luxury items like going on vacation, having a cell phone, having a car, ect.

to people like us who love cars, it isnt a waste of money in our eyes because we get an enjoyment from modifying cars the same way people get enjoyment from building model planes, going to disneyland, playing video games, ect.

NissanGuy23 10-31-2013 11:25 PM

You sound like a normal Z enthusiast. Nothing wrong with having a hobby/passion. Don't fall victim to anyone who tries to tell you there is something wrong with it, most people have no hobbies/passions or dreams. And when they do, its often doing something mundane like collecting coins, playing world of warcraft, playing flight sim, fixing record players, ect. It's a great thing in life to have something you love, i just hate when people try to squash that.

this X1000000000

the only time it becomes a problem is if your hobby is overtaking your life

To a certain extent it has............it is an obsession.

OP, you need to give your girl some flowers and take her out somewhere special and out of the ordinary. She does not like competition.

It's still pissing away money, we're just having fun while we're doing it. I justify it since it's still cheaper than playing golf or owning a boat. :rofl2:
