Trust me...the older you get the less good single women around.

I wouldn't call dumping money into an na entry level sports car much of a hobby. Its more a waste of money. Is he planning to take it to the track or autocross it???

well if you think its good to change yourself just so you can be with someone than more power to you

i believe someone should love you the way you are and shouldnt try to change you

also what is wasting money to you is someone's investment and joy, this is far from an entry level sports car(try miata or FRS as entry level) imo and i dont think its a waste of money to modify it

Dead on, but let's not pretend anything we do with a car is an investment. Usually, it devalues the car unless you return it to stock before you sell it. Would you buy a modded car? I guess yeah, it's technically a waste of money since you don't need to mod a car, but it's worth it to me to have a project.

well of course you lose money when modding a car but it isnt a waste since its your enjoyment

technically all people need is food, clothes, and shelter, anything outside of those 3 things is technically a waste of money; but there is the enjoyment factor of luxury items like going on vacation, having a cell phone, having a car, ect.

to people like us who love cars, it isnt a waste of money in our eyes because we get an enjoyment from modifying cars the same way people get enjoyment from building model planes, going to disneyland, playing video games, ect.

You sound like a normal Z enthusiast. Nothing wrong with having a hobby/passion. Don't fall victim to anyone who tries to tell you there is something wrong with it, most people have no hobbies/passions or dreams. And when they do, its often doing something mundane like collecting coins, playing world of warcraft, playing flight sim, fixing record players, ect. It's a great thing in life to have something you love, i just hate when people try to squash that.

the only time it becomes a problem is if your hobby is overtaking your life

To a certain extent it has............it is an obsession.

OP, you need to give your girl some flowers and take her out somewhere special and out of the ordinary. She does not like competition.

It's still pissing away money, we're just having fun while we're doing it. I justify it since it's still cheaper than playing golf or owning a boat. :rofl2:

Nailed it! :icon17:

Seriously, though. I wasn't even a true car guy before owning the Z. Thanks to this forum, I now DIY anything I can from maintenance to mods (I've even done work on other members' cars). I have spent loads of $$$ on detailing supplies I'd never even heard of before joining this forum. And I spend several hours a week (way below avg for the forum I suspect) ogling mods that I can't afford. It is the370z.com way of life :tiphat:

... and thankfully, I've got an awesome wife who puts up with the obsession. Although, she can't really say much because it's her fault - we purchased the car for her originally :icon17:
