from a evo x to a z...few questions
This weekend i traded my 2011 evo x in for a z and i love it but there are some things i am unsure of any insight would be great. Clutch feels horrible feels like the spring or something is rubbing when i press it and release it is this normal? Clutch/flywheel chatter from a stop in 1st at low rpms normal?
Any help would be great...i cant seem to get a nice clean shift sometimes seems to be jerky alot. |
First of all, welcome to the Family.. Now regarding your question.. Start by reading on the following thread. You should get the helper spring, many of us including me are using it and its one of the cheapeast/enjoyable mods.

Yes, stck clutch chatters, the flywheel I still 33 lbs tho. And yes, there is a spring in the clutch. You can remove it, replace with a new clutch helper spring, or buy the rjm clutch pedal.
|
Give it a tad more gas and tad more slip off the line.
|
Both normal. I would like to replace my spring as well and eventually the clutch/flywheel for a lighter one... I don't mind the noise as long as I know nothing is wrong with it
|
Yeah the clutch takes some getting used to. It loud and clunky, but it reminds you that you are driving a real mans sports car. None of the clutch delay BS on BMWs. It really takes some skill and precision to drive this one smoothly. Once you get it down, go let that friend that we all have who swears up and down that they are a better manual driver than Michael Schumacher. You will embarrass them.
I think you made a great choice. Yes, no more rear seats, but she looks a hell of a lot better than the Evo. Enjoy the car! |
Car looks amazing compared to the evo....but its silver which is boring wish i coulda found one in white...are uprev tunes worth it?
|
Welcome OP. I wish I had an EVO X.

I too made that same switch and I tracked both cars fairly regularly. Although I have posted times 2-5 seconds faster at each track in my previous Evo X (w/ SST). I feel like my driving skills have improved dramatically in the Z. Welcome to the Z fam. Enjoy!
|
NOIOOOOOOO!!! go get your evo back :p nah jk the z is a fun car welcome to the family. want to make your clutch feel amazing ???? upgrade to any other clutch besides stock and get the clutch helper spring that should fix all your issues.
|
OP. Yes it is normal. All remedies have been given to you.
Welcome to a better forum. |
Thanks everyone! I plan on switching to black chrome nissan emblems how hard is that to do? Just a heat gun and floss? Any screws?
|
no yes no
|
If the Evo came in a 2 door my dream would have came true.

i have the JWT clutch and flywheel combo and to be honest, it makes chatter at idle but it got rid of the chatter at stops and it got rid of the jerky feeling because i can actually get some feedback from the clutch with the stock helper spring in it |

i just really like the amount of power you can squeeze out of the evo with so little mod money
|

|
So you don't like the Evo?

For the longest time the Evo X was on the top of my list for my car search. It still tends to be more practical with the back seat and has more trunk space. Especially, when kids are part of the equation. The AWD also helps for Chicago weather. Its cheap to mod, relative to the Z. My brother in law has a 600hp built motor Evo. I think he spent 2k to 3k on it, he loves that thing. However, I have come to the conclusion that the Z is going to be my next car. It just look devious, and has over all better fit and finish. I bought the wife a mini-van for traveling w/kids and running around for errands. I have been driving my 10 year old Honda accord as my daily, and it still continues to run great. So the Z works out really well for me. It's going to be my project car for the foreseeable future. I drove a 2014 Touring and found that it was much better then what I had expected. Especially compared to my 90zx NA. Power in stock form is plenty (This perception will probably change once the mod bug hits, remember I drive a 4cyl Accord). It handles amazing, and the ride is actually not that firm. Good luck w/your search. |

I feel like since their isn't much you can do to the Z power wise I don't have to really worry about mods other than basics. |
^^ It really does seem the Evo X isn't for you. I understand the "not bonding with the car" scenario. I've had plenty of cars that didn't make me want to look back whenever I parked them. It may sound silly, but I ended up selling those cars at a loss, just so I could drive something I somewhat enjoy. Performance is important, but it isn't everything to me. I prefer to drive a car that evokes my passion for driving. Both cars in my sig did just that.

For the op...
After I completed the following list, my Z's clutch feels great! I only get clutch chatter when going up hill. Also note, I've never removed the "helper spring" and don't plan to. :tiphat: 1) DOT 4 hydraulic fluid 2) removed clutch line restrictor and replaced w/Dorman brake line union 3) Z speed CSC and SS line 4) Input shaft greeezed with MANLEY Xtreme pressure lube 5) Xedy clutch/PP/single mass flywheel 6) FSM clutch pedal adjustment 7) FSM clutch air bleeding procedure |
