front license plate..
hey everyone, when i bought my z month back it did not come with front license bracket so i left it alone as is and i intend not to put one. it requires in my state to have one in front, just curious how many of you don't have it in front and have you got stopped for it and what kind of excuses you come up with it??
...and by the way i won't leave it on my dash either..:icon17: |
I leave mine behind the passenger seat. Haven't been pulled over yet. But I do throw it on the dash if I think I'm at risk of being pulled over.
|
I'm in your boat and have not had a front plate for years (20+?). I've never been hassled either.
:tiphat: |
this topic was discussed before.
my state requires it, i put my front plate on. i got pulled over many times over the years in my various cars i had, never cited or had to pay a fine, but just got old. |

Do you put on the front plate or not, which oil is best, or manual vs auto? :icon17: |

guess what, you don't like it just ignore the subject and move on to other subjects rather than smart a$$ remarks.. it is ok i learned few things been here a week or so.. i don't belong here.. so long.. |

Now to chime in on the subject. I would just put it on. I am not so concerned with the nose being perfect and all. I would rather avoid any unnecessary contact with police officers as you never know when you are going to run into an officer who is having a bad day and is ready to pick on someone who has a beautiful car. Just my thoughts. They can take a lot of money out of your pocket, considering having to go downtown to deal with court and missing time at work. Just not worth it IMO. |
I do not run a front plate on my Z's and have not on any of my Z's in the last 30 years. Now that I am posting this, I am going to get pulled over. That's the way my life works.

FLP in Texas
I gotten one ticket in the past decade for NFLP in Texas for $90.00 and that was in 2002
:tiphat: Leave it off it looks much better. |
I know a lot of people don't want to pay for a plate mount but it is a good solution if you don't want to drill your bumper.
STILLEN No Drill License Plate Relocator STILLEN No Drill License Plate Relocator 105465 | STILLEN Had mine since July. no problems with install or removal. Personally, I don't want to give the nice law enforcement people any extra reason to notice me.:driving: |
There's another one besides the stillen one, I have it and it gives you many "mounting" positions I can't remember the name of the brand but when I get home I'll let you know

Your thinking of Grimspeed
|
Speaking of which, does grimmspeed even make a Z front bracket. I know there more suby and scion anyone know if they make it for the Z?
|
Don't know if this counts or not but I had two different Wa state plates on the front and rear of my 350Z, lmao.

If Mercedes give the A45/CLA45..2 litre 4 cylinders turbo-engine,355 bhp engine to Nissan,it will be fun.

front license plate..

I don't run a front plate. I've got the holes drilled Into the bumper for it thanks to the dealer monkeys at the **** hole I bought my car from not listening to repeated instructions, but I'm not about to block the radiator and intercooler with a plate. |
Just put your plates on if your state requires it, OP. Check out post #12.
Tow Hook License Plate Bracket Rho Plate |
When I went to the airport last night, I pulled up next to four cops on the sidewalk. No front plate and a loud car. They gave no f@cks. I've never been hassled in Vegas.
|
Usually you won't get pulled over just for not having a front plate. However, if you do get pulled over for another reason e.g speeding, they will also add it on top of the speeding ticket. I actualy got to get a plate myself, I got stopped and they noticed no plate >.<
|
Washington State requires it, I've been pulled over THREE times and ticketed twice ($124 each) and still refuse to deface my baby! There are no registration stickers on the front plate as they're only required on the back. No real reason as to why they still require a front plate other than "because we said so". The cops get the vote here to keep the law or not, not the citizens.
|
OP. Ignore the negative rant. As for your question, do what you want to do. Be ready to deal with the outcome - good or bad........self gratification because it looks great without it or a fix it ticket if you get called out. I did not install mine, then I did, and then took it off last March. I have it on my stillen bracket sitting behind the passenger sit just in case. My excuse to get out of it is to tell the officer that I'd be glad to put it back on the spot but someone tried to steal my plates once.
Oh and I respect those whose been here for a long time but there are a lot of new members who had the same issues and concerns and just find the search function unfriendly. |

I have had this plate mount on for a year now.
Nissan - GoMiniGo-Home of Innovative Products for your car And here is how it looks installed on my car http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...non-nismo.html |
I live in Iowa where we do require front plates. However, I don't run one on the front. I do keep the plate inside my car in a protective sleeve with padding in the shelf behind the passenger seat, along with tow hook mounting gear. Other threads have info, so you should probably do a search for "license plate" for thread titles.
But some things to think about as you read: - Are there lots of reports of police in your state/city being ornery about this? - What is the fine in your state for violating this? (Iowa is a palatable $40) Does it stack as you get fined for it repeatedly? - What sort of violation is it? (Will it affect your traffic rating/points...?) - Look around at other sporty cars to see if all of them are running front plates (corvettes, etc). Here in central Iowa, many sporty cars opt to not run the front plate, and I've heard of very few being fined. - You could even ask at a Corvette or other sporty car dealer for some "off the record" opinions or observations of their buyers. - I'd suggest keeping the plate with you, and think about mounting it if you drive out of state. What are your border state rules? I'd rather get in trouble in my home state than out of state. - Don't regularly trigger redlight/speed cameras just because you feel free without the front plate. - Avoid putting the plate loose on your dashboard. In some states that is an offense in itself, but everywhere else it's a decapitation hazard in the event of a violent accident. I wouldn't come up with any excuses for not doing it. Don't try to jerk the LEO over; they've heard it all already and aren't going to buy it. If they let you by, they're choosing to of their own accord. At most, just let them know you've not put it on yet, but were planning to. You just didn't want to use the dealer setup because it requires holes drilled in the bumper. Also, don't carry or do anything else illegal in your car if you choose to not sport a front plate. They can use lack of a front plate as the reason to pull you over and start looking for other violations. So if you have history or are cautious about interacting with LEOs, don't give them more reason to notice you. Lastly, don't ever complain about being pulled over for lack of a front plate when you freely choose to roll without the front plate. |
Just a quick revisit... If you get pulled over and hassled about your front license plate and you *really* want to float a reason and your car will look the part, you could either claim your car is a show car and you sometimes forget to put the plate back on, or the plate location restricts cooling for your performance car. Clearly, your mileage may vary.
