You took the gamble buying a new first-year model car. Deal with it, it's normal that there are some defects and fortunately for us who are waiting for the 2010s to come out these problems will be resolved.

If Nissan has not worked out how to paint a car by now it's not going to be any better by 2010.

Even a first-year model, $90k USD, 2009 BMW M3 has loads of orange peel and paint defects. It's not a matter of figuring out how to paint a car... the line the 370Z is being built on in the Tochigi plant is virtually brand new. It's a matter of fine-tuning it. You simply cannot, realistically, expect a virtually flawless, $30-40k first-year model car. If the new M3 can get orange peel even with the Regensberg plant's rigorous quality control, I'm pretty sure the 370Z can get moisture under the clear.

Besides, I believe that it's a known fact that red is a difficult color to paint. The best solution is to simply avoid it.

You should take pictures before you post about discoloration on your car first off. As for the car not being worth even $20k...let your rage out on a more sensible statement.....thats just a ignorant thing to state, especially on the 370 forums..

I will say that Im suprised that you got two red cars and saw a third with this discoloration. I wouldnt expect that from Nissan. No red 350s I ever saw had that issue...besides a pearlesent look thats kinda standard.

I would have taken a picture before the post, however the car has been at the dealer forever it feels like. I didn't really even have a chance to take a shot of it since I took it in the minute I saw it there. And, I don't think my statement is ignorant if the paint is so bad that it will have to be completely repainted...a paint job of the quality a Z owner would expect is not cheap and I wouldn't expect to be able to sell this vehicle to anyone for anything higher than maybe 20k since it will have to be repainted to look decent!

And...I'm sure that I just didn't have the great luck to have the only three 370Z's produced with this defect by Nissan in this particular lot in Oklahoma City...I'm sure it's a more widespread problem.

Well, I haven't seen the defects you are talking about. My car was a showroom car. Never out on the lot and it has been garaged since purchased. To me, it almost sounds like a paint defect from using a very aggressive acidic wash? I've not seen another Z in this color yet so I have no other point of reference.

Interested in this post though... Sure hope "lunar landscape" doesn't show up in my future.
