Gear indicator is flashing "N"

No matter what gear I'm in the indicator flashes that it's in neutral. But I know it's not the sensor because then it wouldn't be flashing. Any idea how to fix it?

not sure what means in Nissan, but my acura was flashing the green light next to drive indicator...it was the equivalent of a check engine light but for transmission in my acura. which means something is up with transmission.

Hope that is not the case with you...not sure what that means in Nissan...

Hmm everything seems normal with the transmission, and I forgot to add this is a 6 speed.

Better hope it keeps flashing... I heard that when it stops, your car blows up.

Bring it back to Nissan. You're well within Warranty, why troubleshoot it?

+1

If you do want to troubleshoot on your own, check out the Factory Service Manual (FSM). I'd start in the TM (Transaxle and Transmission) section. I'd also use an OBD scanner to check for any DTCs.

Exactly.............

There are hall sensors to determine what location the shifter is in. The location is sent to the ECM and then goes to the gear indicator. To me, it sounds like the sensor pack is bad, so the ECM does not "read" the shifter location. This should be covered under warranty (if still covered).

Keep us posted...

I've had the car for only 2 months but the car is a 2009 with 33k miles so it's out of the bumper to bumper warranty, 3yr/36 right?

You can almost guarantee it

By the way guys, I forgot to mention that the srm doesn't work. The S light doesn't even come on if you press the button.

Make sure to hold down the SRM button for a few seconds in order for it to activate. Pushing it down and letting go to quickly will not activate SRM.

Try a dealer. If it's not serious, it won't cost you much. If it is, you'll be glad that you took it there. :tiphat:

SRM not working sounds like it could be the shifter position switch.

Try flashing your ECU back to original state.

Any other details you have left out?

If it started when you flashed the ECU, flashing it back to stock should be the first thing you do.

That was the first thing I did and it is still on the stock map

Chuck33079 10-23-2013 10:59 AM

Stock map or reverted the ECU to the stock state (ie never been tuned)? Something went wrong in the flash process.

kenchan 10-23-2013 11:03 AM

is this something where you can pull the code and clear it via OBD2? id try that.

The "back to stock" map that uprev sent me, the process seemed to have went smoothly

Have you tried the clutch switch yet? Plenty have mentioned that. Theres only a few things it could be and it certainly sounds like that.

I messed around with it before, I disconnected it and tried connecting a paper clip to the connector pins on the wire but that's didn't do anything. But to be honest I didn't really know what I was doing.

Maybe this caused a problem with the clutch switch?

Hmm maybe but the clutch switch does sense when the clutch is pressed

The car drives and runs perfect and I don't use the srm so that doesn't concern me as much as how annoying the indicator not working is.

I would assume so. That's how I read "went smoothly". If it didn't go smoothly he'd still have the problem, right? ;)

It's not running perfect if the SRM doesn't work. Something electronic got fried when you attempted to flash the car.

Well I meant the process in the software went smoothly, no errors or anything. But the problem still exists.

Mechanically

Chuck33079 10-23-2013 11:20 AM

At this point you either need to call Uprev back and figure out what went wrong in the flashing process or drop the car off at the dealer.

You're right, I agree.

Chuck33079 10-23-2013 11:24 AM

If it worked before the flash and doesn't now, we've found the cause unless some sensor got toasted when you messed with the harness. Hopefully it can be solved without going to the dealer and bending over.
