I've been around long enough to know that when you turbo-charge any car that didn't come so equipped from the factory, you are introducing yourself to a slew of headaches. This is nothing against the shops and tuners that provide the kits...there are quality kits out there, so this is not on them. The fact of the matter is, once you modify a car so extensively, your ability to drive the car worry-free flies out the window. It's never running right or there is always a new problem that you have to fix every week. One day it's a wastegate issue. The next day you have a mysterious oil-leak. After that the car wont idle properly. Before you know, you just want to sell the car and hand your headache off to someone else. Why do you think you see so many highly-modded cars go up for sale just months after they are completely?

Now que the onslaught of all the "My boy has a turbo _____ and it's been problem-free for x,xxx miles!" or "My TT _____ has been perfect blah blah blah."

On top of all that, at the end of the day...the car you just spent $xx,xxx on to make fast is only as fast as a bone-stock car that would have cost you the same amount, minus all the other benefits that come with the better car, minus the headache.

I agree man, I just didn't want to bump into the folks that you mentioned. I don't know a single person save some of the folks paying 25k for their turbo kits, that don't have issues when they TT a non-turbo motor.

Its always something, oil burning, blown turbo seals, leaking bov's, melting hoses, overboosting, boost leaks, blown hoses, wacky AFRs, clutch going, temps rising, detonation, bolts loosening, unfinished ends, etc. That list is far too long for the average person to deal with. I already dealt with all that crap and would be willing to put up with it to a certain extent if my car never saw the track.

Since I do track my car now and then, a TT is out of the question, because I know without a doubt that SOMETHING will happen, its just a matter of when. That uncertainty in the reliability of the car becomes rather stressful on a daily driven car..

Some folks don't have a clue what they are getting into, but perhaps 09Nismo does considering his experience with a TT Z.

As far as a very mild TT kit? that's a waste of money in my opinion, if you are going to TT you better build the block and run 30psi so you can get your money's worth and use the potential of the system. If you don't want 650hp, get a Supercharger and call it a day. Its more reliable over the long term...

I could not agree more on all points.

+100........couldn't agree with this more. I went through the same thing with my 350. There was always something going wrong....and what started out as a passion turned into a nightmare that I didn't have the time nor patience to deal with anymore. It's just a matter of time with a turbo kit......a very short amount of time at that.

Superchargers aren't as extensive and will probably be a better alternative.

Agreed, turboing something not meant to be turbo'ed never makes for good long term results. An SDS typically runs between 6-10 psi, easily handled by a stout engine like ours, good daily driven power, reliability, less headaches, you cant go wrong. Now Stillen, you have a buyer right here, stop piddling along and get that kit out!

You're always going to have problems with any car n/a or turbo when you incress its stock power output by 100-200% turbo/supercharger/built N/A

SgtGoldy 08-19-2009 09:29 AM

Yea I understand where most of you are coming from. I just love the sound of that blow off valve after a nice boost. haha i guess I am just a dreamer who is willing to put up with the frustrations of a TT.

Dreamer is not the most fitting word. If you want to go TT just for "the sound of that blow off valve after a nice boost"...I'd say you're just a tool. Others might call you a ricer, but that's so passé.

Good luck with that, buddy. :ugh2:

SgtGoldy 08-19-2009 10:34 AM

lol ouch JoeD haha it's not just for that, it's just something I really enjoy about it. haha no need to get so harsh

sloterg 08-19-2009 10:42 AM

haha wow.. quick to kill :D

JBMS 08-19-2009 11:26 AM

Yeah, seriously go easy on the guy.

Turboing is a passion and its your car, your decision, its up to your personal style of driving if you want it or not. Any track car is going to have issues, if you push a car to its limits its going to break something. But thats what R&D is for. The more guys like you that track your cars, the more we find the weak points in them and the aftermarket can improve on them.

And to answer your original question yes the TT kits are out. PM me if you want one installed and I'll let you know the price. The base kit makes about 550whp. [Tell me that's not gonna be tempting to have fun at the track with ;-) ]
