speeding tickets??

So... i got my first speeding ticket in my Z yesterday. who else has gotten a ticket in their Z so far? how much over the limit were you?

the cop was gracious and cited me at 69 in a 40. i was going much faster, but he liked the car and mentioned it was his first time seeing a 370 and asked all about the specs and "fun-to-drive" quotient. i was on a freeway access road, so he wasnt too excited about my excessive speed.

this is my first speeding ticket in 10 years... i knew i should have bought a radar detector as soon as i bought the car back in April. :shakes head:

i'd post a poll with this for easy tracking, but i guess i'm not cool enough to figure it out... or still too pissed at myself to think straight.

*Edit* - figured out the poll. Yay!
Also, I'm not condoning speeding... just curious how other board members are doing when it comes to driving their pride and joy vs. Johnny Law.

molamann 08-15-2009 08:21 AM

1 speeding ticket in my life and it was a month after I bought the Z. Going 80 in a 60 and cop was still merciless even though it was 5:30AM in the morning on my way to work in my military uniform. :/

cave vulture 08-15-2009 08:43 AM

No tickets yet, but the yellow Z attracts them like bees. They follow all the time, but so far I've dissapointed them and maintained the speed limit.

StLRedrider 08-15-2009 09:49 AM

i got pulled over about a month ago going 70 something in a 60, the cop was cool as hell, he asked me what would i prefer, option a, speeding ticket or option b, seatbelt ticket, i took the $10 dollar seatbelt ticket. Very nice guy.

fuct 08-15-2009 10:22 AM

come on man wear a seatbelt, dont be ignorant.....

ah, i see you James Dean caption fits you perfectly.... and i wonder how he passed away.....hmm

you're a lucky man!.. my ticket will be somewhere around $300.00.

i'm just glad this didnt happen in California. I hear speeding penalties are ultra stiff there.

that's the kicker, i did have my seat belt on, he was just being cool. I guess he had to justify pulling me over, i don't know. i do have a clean record and he mentioned that.

StLRedrider 08-15-2009 10:30 AM

i know when to be stupid and crazy, it's not in my car

frost 08-15-2009 10:47 AM

Whoops, I voted before I saw it had to be in a Z. My speeding ticket came from another Z (Z06). Not bragging, because it was pretty stupid in hindsight, but it was 155 in a 75.
It thought I was on an abandoned road because I hadn't seen anyone in 20 miles. As soon as I opened her up, cop hiding behind a sign.

kannibul 08-15-2009 10:50 AM

None yet, but close a couple of times. (If the cop would have turned around)

Either he said f-it and didn't bother, or, he didn't have his radar on.

Of course, now that I've said something.....

Did he just write the ticket, or was there more to it?

cave vulture 08-15-2009 10:52 AM

Just curious.....What's 155 in a 75 worth?

zZSportZz 08-15-2009 10:53 AM

No speeding ticket here in any vehicle and I speed all the time...

Now I need to find some wood to knock on.....

StLRedrider 08-15-2009 10:53 AM

^ should have been jail time, atleast here it is,lol

frost 08-15-2009 10:59 AM

Should have gone to jail, but I did my best to be polite to the guy while still convincing him that I wasn't being a danger to anyone since there was no one out there. I also talked a lot about how a z06 is designed for high speeds. So I just got the ticket, which was only around $400. Now my insurance doubling when they found out was the real costs.

StLRedrider 08-15-2009 11:03 AM

frost, i think you got off pretty cheap. Hell i got one on my cbr that cost me $300.00 and thats with a lawyer, state trooper in the air got me on a 2 line hwy back home, no clue, too busy watcing the road to be looking for any dam% airplane.

Educ8r 08-15-2009 11:04 AM

Only one way to find out, let us know when you get the answer.

Yeah, the best I would have done is said "I didn't know I couldn't do that" (in reference to comedian David Chapelle)

frost 08-15-2009 11:06 AM

Yeah, no complaints on the ticket. Cop was like "Youre the fastest guy I've pulled over... ever"

Pheonix 08-15-2009 11:11 AM

Seriously...down here, thats insta-jail time, fast talking or no. I did a reverse U 180 at 60mph in my old VW Corrado G60, and sped off...cop saw it, and as it was I almost found myself in the back seat of the car. If it hadn't been on a parking lot at my place of employ, and another officer who swung by from time to time coming by to save my ***, I'd have been back there for sure.

It did however, earn me the nick Duke Hazzard for a few months, though.

StLRedrider 08-15-2009 11:18 AM

i was coming back from a state fair in illinois about four years ago on a 900 past a cop on a 2 lane going roughly 85 in a 55, by the time he had turned around and had his lights on i was already on the side of the road with my helmet off, there's was no use in running. i was in a area that i didn't now i never ran and wasn't going to start then, he come walking up to me saying"i can't believe you stopped, i just can't believe you stopped". i think he was shocked, he let me off with a warning

NeedforZ 08-15-2009 11:57 AM

Sorry to hear that. Actually, I've been more concerned about the front license plate thing. Usually see plenty cops up and down El Dorado. None of them have seemed to care so far even though I come up behind them or beside them at stop lights.

Jeez, only $10! A seatbelt violation here in florida is $90!

havasuwiley 08-15-2009 12:42 PM

photo radar flashed mr yesterday, aprox 60 in a 45 zone, still have temp tags on rear, hard to see, hopefully they can't see the # and i won't get the ticket in the mail, btw photo radar is pure bs!!!:shakes head:

Red370 08-15-2009 12:56 PM

had my Z a week, got a 41 in a 30, yeah, weak I know. Doesnt help having a bright shiny red sports car. I got out of the ticket by volunteering for DD class. First speeding ticket ever mind you.

I ran once in phoenix and got away, but this incident was in texas, where I believe that hang you for that kind of stuff.

GMZ 08-15-2009 01:35 PM

My last ticket I got was in my old 350, I was crossing a bridge and got clocked 105 in a 55. The bridge was also a "safety corridor". Got to spend a couple week of leave in jail for that one.

frost 08-15-2009 01:37 PM

I've seen a safety corridor in new mexico, where practically the whole state is a safety corridor. Seems like a good way to get more money out of people.

lando76 08-15-2009 01:40 PM

Hey Frost double check your state laws. In CA the cops have to be visible (no hiding) Also if its at night they have to have their parking lights on. I had to fight a ticket once and ended up winning because of that.

frost 08-15-2009 01:42 PM

Wow, california actually has a law that benefits citizens?

MJM33067 08-15-2009 03:47 PM

Still waiting on my Z I ordered in early July. Have not had a ticket since 1992, but got one at the end of July going 67 in a 50 in my G35. Can't believe I got one just before getting the Z.

We do a lot of crazy things. ;)
Plus we have cops that enjoy the chase, like have modified Dodge Chargers.

Solus 08-15-2009 03:56 PM

Got pulled over on 71 in Ohio outside of Cinci doing 148 (that's what he clocked me at anyways). Got lucky the guy that pulled me over was a fellow Corporal of mine that just got out of my unit 3 months prior. Gets to the window goes "why you driving this instead of your supra?"... someone up there is lookin out for me

frost 08-15-2009 03:57 PM

Looks like this thread needed a 50+ option

OnCallZ 08-15-2009 04:24 PM

I got pulled last year for doing 95 in a 55 on the interstate at 3 a.m., officer pulls me over and all I said was "I am on call my patient is dying", he let me off, even though my patient wasn't dying right at the moment I was called in for something else.

In CA you can fight the ticket through the mail. Cop doesn't get paid overtime to fill out response paperwork. He doesn't get to see you in court to remind him of anything you may have said or done. If he doesnt' respond, case dismissed. If he does respond and you lose you can still go to court and fight it and hope he doesn't appear. If he doesn't case dismissed.

I've helped a couple of friends get out of tickets this way.

I learned all about how to fight traffic tickets in court when I successfully beat a red light photo ticket. I haven't had a ticket on my record in over 12 years.

Pushing_Tin 08-15-2009 07:35 PM

Well I've been over the legal limit, but no speeding tickets, and I have not been pulled over. My last speeding ticket was in 1994 on my CBR 600 in New Mexico, on I25, I was clocked by airplane at 125, and pulled over by the state police. They weren't happy, but since I was in the military they let me go with a court appearance, and that is a whole other story!

Island_370 08-16-2009 06:39 AM

no tickets in the Z, yet.

i bit the bullet and installed the front license plate just so i wouldnt have to worry about it... true, there are plenty of cops up and down eldorado and the neighboring streets. i never speed in town... i was in Ft. Worth on Friday for work and got busted on the access road where north loop 820 and I35 meet.

it was a long, banked curve with nobody on it... great to open up the throttle on.. but the cop jumped out from behind a tree and got me. :(

BTW, needforZ - are you in a PG Z? i think i saw you at eldorado and ridge a few weeks ago.
