You don't have to do mods to cars to be an enthusiast. I know a couple of people that have some amazing car collections that not one is "modified".

My Z was bought with 90% of the whole build planned. Hell, some of the parts were ordered before I owned a Z. I've picked up a few extraneous dressup items along the way, and I comb the marketplace here for things I wouldn't mind but won't pay retail for. The powertrain was planned out completely. Appearance will always be tweaked a little bit every so often until the Z in my garage looks just like the Z in my mind. Once I get there, I'll just upgrade parts as things wear out. I keep new cars 8-10 years, so I've got a long time to get her just right.

i completely get it. i have been thinking of going other directions lately. (viper gts, e92 m3, maaaaybe sellin gthe z and saving for an alfa 4c?). i think mine is mainly because i want something new and exciting all the time.

Cars keep my busy...fishing keeps me busy......the range keeps me busy...I have a few hobbies that keeps me from falling out of the modding passion.

I've come to washing the cars every weekend and waxing it every other weekend. :)

Still love every single mile that I put on my garage queen Z. Also taking turns driving the Z, WRX and my DD...three different experiences, keeps my on my toes with mods and wanting more mods.

Personally, I have never felt the need to mod just to mod. Every mod I've done & have planned has a purpose of how I want the car & it is not my daily driver. I have had a pretty clear plan on what I wanted to do while some ideas have been added & subtracted long the way & am yet to remove or redo a mod. I have always put proper thought & planning into my mods & not just mod on a whim. When I finish, (almost there ;) ) then I can just enjoy my car. I don't vehicle swap much so once I get it the way I want, I'm good.

:twocents: YMMV

Maybe once it's finished I'll get bored with it. I've never finished a project car, so that would be a new feeling. It just drives so damn good, I can't imagine getting rid of it.

there's no such thing as finishing a project car

I'm sure it's possible, I've just never been close. As soon as I think I'm done, someone makes new parts.

MadChemist 10-01-2013 11:03 AM

The whole reason why I mod a vehicle is to make it unique to my taste. I don't like to have a vehicle that someone else has. Modding is almost like art to me, each change is representative of myself. Plus, I love working on cars.

I think this is the root cause. Tinkering on things is fun. I don't think I own a single mechanical device I haven't taken apart and messed around with.

i just save up for the next car. :)

True..........I'm not sure you lose the passion but typically once you mod a part, that should be it. You basically accomplished your goal.

Sure there are people that "waste" money to change exhaust or intakes a few times, go to HFC then swap again for test pipes. **** I went thru 3 different rim combos, to end up with Sport Rays , which is want I wanted to begin with. But that's part of the fun, within reason.

I've had spurts where I've done lots of mods then I look at this past Spring/Summer. Outside of installing my front lip (which recently flew off lol) and new R-11 tires, I did nothing

Then in the last 3 weeks, picked up a Carbon Signal CF spoiler, some engine hoses, Illuminated kick plates and have hood props from Kellyfields coming :)

Heck, I might not even put the hood props in till after winter so I have something to look forward to lol.

I find these little spurts help keep the passion alive. Life will always get in the way here and there.

One thing I do love about the Z is not feeling like I "have to" mod everything to make it look good/perform well. With lesser cars it was never ending...but the Z can be a show stopper with only a handful of modifications.
