Why did you buy your 370?
I realize there have been threads like this one posted before, but I wanted to open a fresh one for all the new people to the site that didnt get a chance to read them.
I first seen the Z back in Feb in person, wow, love at first sight, at the time I was home on leave from that shytstorm called Iraq. At the time I didnt have the funds to buy the car outright, so I planned to get one immediately upon my return. Well, when I went back, some friends turned me onto the new Camaro SS, which BTW is a blast to drive. So I went from wanting the Z, to lusting after the Camaro. So I get back in june, and get to the Chevy stealership expecting to pay MSRP at the most, which was 30k give or take. I had managed to accumulate about 35k in my savings for the 15 mos I was there. Well lo and behold, they decided to tack on a $12,000 "Rarity" fee, taking the car to 44k, f-ing insanity I know. So I then directed my business elsewhere, only to find this problem city wide. As I was leaving the dealership, a SR 370 zipped by, and I swear i damn near got a fully. So on over to Casa Nissan I went, got the price I wanted and drove off with my new SR 370, paid in full, gotta love deployments! I also think that this new minimum mpg government restriction they plan to impose will severely limit the number of high hp car production, better get your speedster while they last! |
Total impulse buy. Yes...I repeat...a 35k impulse buy haha...
I saw a 370z in a magazine and was like...I need that car. Two days later...I had that car. And I love every minute in it. Its like a mini-vacation every time I sit in it. |
I find myself looking at mine lustfully each and every time I walk away from it, my gf gets pissed!

Read the impressive reviews.....Tired of my Ponderous '08 corvette. Sold the vette, traded my in my CooperS for the Z and have been happy as a clam..
|
you really didnt like the 08 vette? why?
|
I think it's like the whole country they are all marking up the new Camaro, I lurk the camaro5 forums i haven't seen one that got their camaro below MRSP.

I think it was a superbowl ad (I'm pretty sure)
I wasn't really in the market for a car until then, but after that, I was done. |

To answer the OP's question: I bought my 370Z because I'd wanted one since my college roomate bought himself a brand new 280Z as a graduation present to himself years ago. The timing was finally right (my kids have their own vehicles now and I was in the market for a new car), so voila! |
I saw the GT-R online......wanted one.....then saw the price. At that point I decided "Hey, I have a 2004 Tiburon and it's paid for....I don't need a new car."
Then, I saw the GT-R's little brother and I was sold! Somewhat of an impulse buy, I suppose but it was too nice of a car to pass up and just wait. Want was greater than Need in my case. :p |
seems the preordered ones are the only ones free of markup, but with a wait that long, sure as hell shouldnt be. Mr. Fusz, im curious, can a dealer charge a "rarity" fee?

i was in hollywood at the time around feb, i was at the mall on sunset blvd at the walk of fame and right there were two nissan 370z's on display, i then thought to myself maybe its a sign......hangin out on sunset blvd all day, i must of ran into probably 20 advertisments of the new 370z either it be on the billboards or on tv....i thought to myself yeah it is a sign. when the day was done i was exiting the hollywood area to go home then i saw the mothership of all advertisments of the 370z....scaling alongside a (out of estimation) a 20 story building!....then i said to myself, yeah thats the car im gonna get!! it was one of those things where u just see signs all over the place to help with your decision!!
|
a quick ? for those reading the thread, how do yall think this 30 mpg minimum sanction on all production cars after 12' will effect the performance car market? Im seein an increase in 4 banger turbodiesels, thoughts?
|
I had always wanted a 240Z back in the day when I was a young kid. Then I saw the 370Z and for me it was as if the 240Z had been infused into a modern version of the original. I had to have it and within two weeks I bought the one I wanted in June. Still breaking it in but I've enjoyed every minute!
|
I was looking up info on the bmw z4 out of curiosity, then the 350z because I had seen them around town and liked their look. That's how I found out about the 370. I saw the price and the performance reviews and decided I really wanted one. Wrestled with the want vs. need issue for a few weeks. Finally decided you only live once and bought the car.
|
The import tax on cars here made an S5 too expensive. So I looked into RWD cars (snow longer an issue) the 370Z was the best performance/cost combo out there.
|
Because only guys with huge members drive Zs.

You didn't get measured when you bought yours? It was like one of those "you must be this tall" rules.

'08 6 speed that I tuned to about 470 HP and re-did the suspension....For a light car it's got a very heavy feel to it. Ponderous is the word with the turning radius of the Queen Mary. Lot of fun for the 1.5 years I had it, but not nearly as satisfying as the Z to drive (for me anyway) |

Fate can sometimes be a wonderful thing! |
When I was a child, my neighbor took me around in his new z with the t-tops off.
My first car was an 86 z31 turbo. I've had several since then. At one point I was helping to build two vg30/33's a week. Currently building an 88SS that I co-own with a friend of mine. 60-1 turbo, jwt S2 cams, ported/polished to the size of the valves throughout. Nistune, for those that know what it is. Currently pulling 14psi, should have fuel for 20, and if that goes bad, we've got my old vg33 on the stand, almost ready to go. I bought mine the week after somebody cut in front of my g35 coupe. Totaled it out, gap insurance paid off the rest... I was free... so I went and picked up a load of debt :D VPP program, loaded it out, only thing I didn't get was the splash guards and the 'upgraded' mats. Never liked the 350z, the interior was terrible. |

so its safe to say the vette handles like a peterbuilt?
|
I didn't have an issue with the handling (although it wasn't top notch). I had an issue with the absolute POS interior in a $50K+ car.

I walked in and they handed me the keys and after the test Drive I said were do I sign.

I actually was going to pull the trigger on a 08 red grand touring last fall, early winter when the salesmen told about the 370 coming out so i waited and so dam% glad that i did. Before i ordered mine i test drove the 08 and then the 09, thats all it took.

great stories gentlemen, keep em comin! BTW, I watched fast and furious tonight, inspired me to go for a drive.

As I have mentioned, it came down to a choice of five cars. Corvette, Viper, Lotus, S2000, and the 370Z. I just thought there were too many Corvettes and not enough exclusivity. The Viper, while fun to look at, made little sense from a practicality standpoint, and in all probability would have turned into nothing more than a garage queen. The Lotus was eliminated because there was no dealer within a reasonable distance. Drove the S2000, , but the low end accelleration seemed no better than my old CRXsi., plus the removable hardtop, with no soft top was a bit crazy. Drove the 370Z and bought it. End of story.
|
Mostly, I bought mine because robert nash on this board was giving a VPP discount which got me like, $4K off.
|
wish I woulda known about this VPP stuff!
|

When I was ready to buy my first new car, it was the end of 1998 and I had just graduated college, and "The SUV killed the Japanese Sports Car." One of my college friends had just bought a brand new Camaro, and it had started to develop serious quality problems. This included the car getting stuck in gear, all of the gear oil draining from the gearbox and then all of the teeth shearing off of the transmission gears, which happened twice in three months! I was driving a 1988 Ford Thunderturd, which was also having its fair share of problems, and plenty of items that I thought I could have designed better, including the stupid digital dashboard that was simply not readible in the daylight. Well, that car finally gave up the ghost and I needed something reliable, there wasn't anything exciting that was on the road, I had heard rumors of the Celica and maybe the Z returning. However, I needed something now, so I ended up buying a '92 Subaru Legacy with the hopes of being able to modify it into a quicker car. Shortly thereafter, there was much speculation that Subaru would bring the WRX over here, I waited and ended up getting a 2002 WRX. After driving that car for 6 years, I was ready for something new, and I absolutely hated the new models - I feel like Subaru alienated their original enthusiast base with the hatchback design and took away just about everything that made the car cool in the first place, it was too Plain Jane looking now. So I decided to go look at the 350Z's. I was getting ready to purchase one, and I was asked if I could spend about a year in California for work to manage a construction project at UCSF. I said yes because it was great experience and a good career move, and put off buying a new car. I returned home around Halloween last year, decided to make buying a house my first priority, so I forgot about the car for awhile. The 370z was released, I sat in it at the Baltimore Autoshow, got out, and announced to all that were there, "This is my next car." I decided I was ready in July, so I started test driving/cross shopping. Chevy wanted $3000 to $6000 over MSRP for the new Camaros, weren't even allowing test drives until the car was purchased, and there was a considerable wait. I drove the 370z and it was still the car to beat. I found one in the color and options that I liked and bought her around 3 weeks ago. The timing was right in my life to justify a fun sports car. I also do agree that very soon we are going to see a change in all automobiles to meet the Green/Carbon Friendly movement. With the new fuel economy mandates and higher fuel prices that are just around the corner, it is going to get increasingly difficult to find an affordable sports car. I hope that I am not right, but I think we are going to see a killing off of the affordable performance car very similar to the death of the musclecar in the mid-70's. |
Dad has a '90 300ZX Twin Turbo and recently finished the '99 front end conversion along with new set of tail lights. My first car was a brand new '03 350Z, so I decided after 6 years the 370Z would be worthy of an upgrade. I actually like this car so much more than the 350Z when I first got it. It definitely has a classic Z feeling.
|
did'nt mean that my other cars are better than the 370z just different, back to why i bought my 370z ,looks first then a test drive and they got me the car with the colors and options i wanted, plus my benz was running out of warrantee and closest benz dealer is 130 miles away ,nissan dealer is local:hello:and were willing to deal, plus my wife has a 09 maxima and she loves it,we have lots of vehicles so another 2 seat car is fine for us.
