The 370z won't feel like the Miata at all. It doesn't feel light to me, and it's more brutish than balanced. The FR-S is gonna be closer in feel, although I think with the new price drops it'd be hard to ignore the 370Z.
You should see if you can drive one first, since that's really the only way to tell if you'll like it. |
Not even close. The Miata feels more nimble. The Z steering wheel must be cranked back to center. Shifter in the Z is more notchy.
But the Z acceleration! Better than Miata, Vette, by a mile. Z seats are a sack of **** But it looks like nothing else on the road.:hello: |
Great, just great.
I started coming to these Forums before I bought my Z. Just to find out what owners really thought about them. And if there were any major flaws. Learned about oil temp issues & fuel starvation. B'ah minor problems. More feature, than bug, really. But you guys hid the DOOR issue! Didn't you? Didn't you. Now I find out about my weak doors. Should have bought the Miata. Having strong Doors is way more important than having your "Man-Card" pulled. I feel used & betrayed. |
My girlfriend has a Miata that I drive quite often. It certainly is a fun car to drive. Not really a fair comparison with the Z. For one thing there is a price difference. The Mazda's interior uses cheaper materials. That said, it feels much lighter and more tossable compared to the Z. Its gearbox and clutch is very forgiving and much easier to drive smoothly. The Z is definitely a more manly car, if there is such a thing. It is brutal, but in a good way. The power difference is biggest thing going for the Z

I've bought my 1995 M edition Miata new and will always love it. It's different than my '09 Z. Bought each brand new for weekend/summer cars and both have been totally reliable mechanically. The Miata is light and lively. The Z, by comparison, is heavy. Of course, with the top down, the Miata visibility is perfect---the Z coup visibility is difficult. Sufficient interior room for me in both cars and I didn't by either for trunk (hatch) cargo space. Miata ride is less harsh than the Z. Miata mileage is somewhat better but the car is way less powerful, even with cold air induction and timing adjustment.
Like two kids you might have, they are of different personalities but both beloved for what and who they are. Your priorities will determine which one you buy. I'm fortunate to own both. |
A buddy of mine had a miata. We used to hit the canyons a lot. The way I see it, it seems like you can thrash the miata left and right without killing yourself. I've never driven it but I heard it's a super easy/fun car to drive, especial in corners. The Z is powerful, heavy, and bulky. Miata is the opposit. My brother has a s2000 and I'd personally get the s2000 over miata.

My sister bought a Club Spec Miata a few months ago. It's a great little car if you fit in it. The pedals are spaced too close together for me to drive it (apparently I have Sasquatch feet) but its still fun from the passenger seat.

Miatas are incredible fun for the low price. They are more "tossable" than a z.
A z is much faster in a straight line and grips like mad in corners, but it isn't as nimble. Not much is. The frs/brz twins are. Unlike most folks, I don't buy cars for image and wouldn't hesitate to buy a Miata if twisties are your performance priority, or top down hijinks |
can't fit in it so don't care...
