Miata Feel

Have you ever driven a Miata? How does it compare to a 370Z? Ok, everyone knows Miatas are perfectly balanced and you can whip one around like a conjoined twin. Mine fits me like a glove. How does the Z FEEL? Is there the same connection as with a Miata where it is an extension of your being? I need to dance with her.

DEpointfive0 08-03-2013 01:41 PM

I think the FRS/BRZ is your car then.
The 370Z isn't as balanced, but the speed makes up for it.

All that being said, never driven a Miata, I'd consider tracking one, but I'd NEVER own one, and yes, I do think they're :supergay:

you should be better looking at s2000 to compare against miata where you can throw the car around.

S2000 was a flash in the pan-no longer made. When I drove one it felt right tho but did not like the S2000 looks. Nice to have somethng with a race history in modern recreation.

My wife had an MX-5 and honestly the Z is not the same feel at all. Doesn't mean it's not a great car, just a different feel. I personally like the Z better but that's just my opinion.

axmea? 08-03-2013 02:13 PM

I barely fit in a Miata. It's like a tight belt after a big meal. Friend from work likes it. I don't.

luigi90210 08-03-2013 02:15 PM

You would want the BRZ/FRS then.

Plus aftermarket for that car is much bigger than it is for the Z or miata.

I love Miatas as well but I'm big in one and I prefer the Z for it's power. Going up hill the Miata suffers.

I had one tailgating me even though a car blocked my way ahead. When the slow car pulled over going up hill, I nearly stopped forcing the Miata to nearly stop as well, then I took off up hill with all that HP. I never saw the Miata again.

Lot's of Miatas at a race track for a reason.

The 370z won't feel like the Miata at all. It doesn't feel light to me, and it's more brutish than balanced. The FR-S is gonna be closer in feel, although I think with the new price drops it'd be hard to ignore the 370Z.
You should see if you can drive one first, since that's really the only way to tell if you'll like it.

SteveBad 08-03-2013 03:54 PM

Not even close. The Miata feels more nimble. The Z steering wheel must be cranked back to center. Shifter in the Z is more notchy.

But the Z acceleration! Better than Miata, Vette, by a mile.

Z seats are a sack of ****

But it looks like nothing else on the road.:hello:

Great, just great.
I started coming to these Forums before I bought my Z.
Just to find out what owners really thought about them.
And if there were any major flaws.
Learned about oil temp issues & fuel starvation.
B'ah minor problems. More feature, than bug, really.

But you guys hid the DOOR issue! Didn't you? Didn't you.
Now I find out about my weak doors.

Should have bought the Miata.
Having strong Doors is way more important than having your "Man-Card" pulled.

I feel used & betrayed.

My girlfriend has a Miata that I drive quite often. It certainly is a fun car to drive. Not really a fair comparison with the Z. For one thing there is a price difference. The Mazda's interior uses cheaper materials. That said, it feels much lighter and more tossable compared to the Z. Its gearbox and clutch is very forgiving and much easier to drive smoothly. The Z is definitely a more manly car, if there is such a thing. It is brutal, but in a good way. The power difference is biggest thing going for the Z

OldGuy 08-04-2013 10:49 AM

I've bought my 1995 M edition Miata new and will always love it. It's different than my '09 Z. Bought each brand new for weekend/summer cars and both have been totally reliable mechanically. The Miata is light and lively. The Z, by comparison, is heavy. Of course, with the top down, the Miata visibility is perfect---the Z coup visibility is difficult. Sufficient interior room for me in both cars and I didn't by either for trunk (hatch) cargo space. Miata ride is less harsh than the Z. Miata mileage is somewhat better but the car is way less powerful, even with cold air induction and timing adjustment.
Like two kids you might have, they are of different personalities but both beloved for what and who they are. Your priorities will determine which one you buy. I'm fortunate to own both.

jaedub 08-04-2013 02:53 PM

A buddy of mine had a miata. We used to hit the canyons a lot. The way I see it, it seems like you can thrash the miata left and right without killing yourself. I've never driven it but I heard it's a super easy/fun car to drive, especial in corners. The Z is powerful, heavy, and bulky. Miata is the opposit. My brother has a s2000 and I'd personally get the s2000 over miata.

Chuck33079 08-04-2013 04:02 PM

My sister bought a Club Spec Miata a few months ago. It's a great little car if you fit in it. The pedals are spaced too close together for me to drive it (apparently I have Sasquatch feet) but its still fun from the passenger seat.

Miatas are incredible fun for the low price. They are more "tossable" than a z.

A z is much faster in a straight line and grips like mad in corners, but it isn't as nimble. Not much is. The frs/brz twins are.

Unlike most folks, I don't buy cars for image and wouldn't hesitate to buy a Miata if twisties are your performance priority, or top down hijinks

Kingbaby 08-04-2013 05:12 PM

can't fit in it so don't care...

I drove a miata a few times, while it was fun just tossing it anywhere i wanted it had ZERO power. Honestly I could yank the wheel as hard as I can and gas it and the rear never kicked out.

Oh and don't even think about impressing anyone with the acceleration. Will take about 1/8 mile to get to 60.
