After 10 years in a Z, I am saying goodbye...

Like the title says, I spent almost 10 years in a Z car. I had the privilege of owning a 2005 350Z and a 2009 370Z. Both were awesome cars! I have a lot of fond memories in both. They always brought a smile to my face whenever I was behind the wheel. Even after years of ownership, that "wow" feeling never wore off. That is a good sign of a great car. But neither was without its flaws. The 350Z was really lacking in the luxury department and the 370's road noise was starting to wear me out. I was craving something a little more luxurious with less road noise. I am now a proud owner of a 2014 Porsche Boxster. So far it has been an amazing car. It reminds me of the first time I took delivery of my past Z cars. I hope you guys enjoy your Z's it truly is an amazing car. See you guys on the road!

Here are some quick pics of my Boxster.

I'm more of a 911 type of person. But I can respect it. Congrats, enjoy and drive it hard. It does look pretty sick though.

10MPlayer 07-19-2013 07:26 PM

Nice looking ride. The color combo is pretty cool...and it's a roadster.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. But I don't mind sharing numbers. I spec'd mine just shy of 60K then add 9% to cover TTL and you get the OTD price.

Wow.. 60k hu? Will it blow the 370 out of the water? Or is it more just luxury? Or both?

Leuz 07-20-2013 02:08 AM

Congrats on your new Boxter. I think Porsche did a really good job in refreshing the line of the 2014 Boxter and Cayman.

60K? You must have only worked off of page 1 of 787 in the Porsche Options book then :)

I hear you and when I build mine on line I struggle to keep it < 70K as there are a few options I kinda want if I was going pound for pound to replace the Z.

As for the differences in the cars you have to drive them. The 981 interior is a step up from the 987s of past. You can option extra leather parts and such to up the luxury/look and feel.

The car itself just drives better (subjectively). Power isn't everything.

I like our ZR for what it is, but in hindsight...a CPO Boxster would have been better. First world problems so I'm not whining and am thankful every day I toss the (porky) beast around corners, but its no Boxster. Having a Cayman doesn't help either. :D

Purchased new, there is a huge price gap that is arguably not justifiable but to paraphrase Ferris, if you have the means I highly recommend you get into a P car. :driving:

I had the privilege of driving a 2013 Boxter for a week and it was an insane amount of fun. You can just drive the **** out of that thing like crazy, even on the streets, which makes it a ton of fun. You don't have to worry about when to brake and when to accelerate like you do in a 911, just keep your foot down and it goes right where you want it to! Never thought I could ever be a convertible guy until I drove it with the top down. Again, crazy amounts of fun. Feels faster than the Z too, despite the figures.
Did you get PDK or mt? Which suspension did you get?
If I were you, I'd look into getting the wheels powder coated and the PSE system. That's what my config would be at least.

ZMan8 07-20-2013 09:55 PM

looks fantastic and from what I hear the new porsche models are all amazing.

Boost_lee 07-20-2013 10:00 PM

Congrats and nice choice on the new car! Enjoy

I agree, it feels very planted. I can take on-ramps faster and with more confidence than I could with the Z. I ordered mine with the MT and Sport Suspension. I wanted the PSE but I was on a budget. Mine is spec'd very lightly by most Porsche owner standards.

CSGLEON 07-21-2013 12:01 AM

yeah nice car... but enough with the congrats bs... is the 370z well below what the porsche can put out in terms of performance? will the porsche smoke the 370z? is it worth the money "60 k" to own that car? i dont know that much about porsche's other then it being a luxuary sports car. again is the Z a dud performance wise????

For the 911, there's something called a gundo hack that you can do to your exhaust to make it like the PSE (you just can't turn it off) and it only costs a couple hundred bucks for a muffler shop to do it.

And performance wise against the Z, the Boxter S got 3:04 around VIR, while nismo 370Z got 3:12. Base Boxter will be in between there, but closer to the 3:04 time (the base 911 had less than a 10 second gap with the S model on the ring). The take into account the added luxury, very nice ride, the insanely confidence inspiring handling dynamics, and the greatest transmission (either MT or PDK) and you have yourself a good deal.

What is smoking to you? Do you live your life 1320 feet at a time?

If so, you got the wrong car :D

The Z has a lot of pluses. Those looking for the ultimate sports car experience where balance, feel, and other attributes come into play over launching down the strait, the Z will lose out in a head to head to a P car. There is no shame in that.

Porsche has been making sports cars for a long time. They built their brand around it. They charge a premium for it. They best do it better then most everyone else. :tiphat:

.

Carnewal modifies the 987 exhaust for far less then then the cost of the PSE...you get an always on exotic, drone free sound. Did mine last month...wish i did it last year :) Cantrell motorsports does the mod in the US.

Not sure if the 981 muffler has the same feature but if it does it should be a matter of time before they modify the 981 muffler as well.
