Stop going with what "some guy" tells you. Go online and search for policyholder experiences. 99% of the time, you'll be better off with a company you've actually heard of. Don't make price the only factor in your decision either. If you cheap out, it can (will) bite you in the *** later.

i should have come to this forum earlier so i dont get rip off like this.......

Chuck33079 07-10-2013 04:49 PM

Don't feel too bad. In the scheme of things, repainting a bumper is a cheap lesson to learn how to handle accidents. We've all got to learn sometime. It could have been a hell of a lot worse. Just don't make the same mistake again.

i hope not gonna happen again but if it does next time i will take a day to search online before i call the insurance. i hate how people drive in Miami this is my third accident but the first time to report to the insurance. the other two time i was park at the parking lot and someone back up and hit my car but i dont know who did it so i pay for my own money........

Chuck33079 07-10-2013 04:58 PM

NO! You file a police report at the scene (non-negotiable), verify the other party has insurance, take time and date stamped pictures of both cars (and the other driver if possible) and then call your insurance company. As in right after you leave the scene. Don't wait to inform them. Then get multiple bids to fix it at top shelf shops. Do not accept any money until you feel satisfied it's enough money. When the car is fixed, pick it up in broad daylight.

learned my lessen this time. but i already cash out the check and payed for that body shop now i think nothing i can do untill the adjuster guy call me for the diminish value. i hope i can get few hungry dollars for it so i can find a better body shop to repaint it

Ubetit 07-10-2013 05:36 PM

Pictures would help us understand. My stock S2000 had about 4 different shades of Spa Yellow on it. Lip was different shade than the bumper, which was a different shade than the hood and fender, which was slightly different from the mirrors, which were a different color than my hardtop. All factory painted.

Nissan OEM paint may be sourced between any of the big 5 manufacturers which is one of the manufacturers your body shop likely used. FYI, car manufacturers may even change manufacturers of the same color from year to year.

You will not get diminished value on a simple bumper cover spray.

Also most Insurance like USAA will recommend reputable Shops and they will deal with the other insurance.

Bad move dealing directly with the Shop.

usaa told me that i would have to pay my deductible if i went through them, even if i was not at fault, but i may get reimbursed later if they can get the other insurance co. to pay. so i chose to go through the other insurance co. even so usaa was great and followed up with me and the other company to make sure everything was fixed (i also financed my z through usaa, so might be some motivation on their part to ensure the collateral is good haha).

edit: i see b15 already cleared this up

edit2: usaa ftw :happydance:

Hey sorry to hear about that. In my first year of having my z I had my grandma roll into my rear bumper- she thought she was in park but was in neutral and just rolled :(. Then over this past winter i had an elderly man hit my passenger side door while I was traveling through a roundabout. He was at fault so I didn't have to pay for anything and my insurance didn't go up, but it does suck just knowing that your car has been hit before. Hope you get it all resolved.

I'd be so ******* pissed if anyone drove my car. Mandatory valet places get the death stare from me. I'd be on their asses right now. L

I guess I wasn't aware that there were insurance companies that charge you your deductible even if you're not at fault. However, that is not something that I want in my policy. If it's not my fault, I shouldn't have to pay a dime. In fact, I think policyholders should be entitled to a few extra $$ for the trouble they have to go through to get the car fixed since some jacka$$ hit them. But I'm not greedy and understand that doing that will just raise insurance even more, so I'm not advocating for it or anything.

I have to get a quote from one of my insurance's approved shops (usually a lowball), but like anyone else I can get quotes from other shops. I just have to contest their shop's quote; a couple of quotes that show their shop is low is good enough. I've never bothered to go through the trouble to contest (though I would with the Z), but a family member has and said it was no problem to get them to honor the quote at the shop he wanted to use.

Chuck33079 07-23-2013 06:33 PM

Unless you're planning on taking them to court, you might as well take the money. I'm shocked they're offering anything.

but their offering insulting value for me ..........
i will be ok if 2~3 hundred dollars but 51 dollars i feel like their insulting me:mad:

Chuck33079 07-23-2013 06:50 PM

It's really too late now considering how the rest of the accident has been handled. Insurance claims don't pay out based on "feeling insulted ".
