wow!!!! just got home from work cant believe all the great input... i did not sleep all night...at 2:30 am i decided i am not going to get
the Z because its like a coffin and you cant see properly out of it where the miata is open, spacious and even has a Trunk. but now i am thinking i can learn everything a miata can be in 30 days...where a Z i will probably still be learning up to the end of the lease. why get auto if it has sync downshifts with the sports package |

Bottom line on the clutch: Any clutch that holds power is gonna be rough. Try a 2 stage. I drove my buddies drag stang the other day and THAT bitch was clunky. However, I have never peeled out in all 5 gears before, so its a trade off. But sounds like you have made up your mind anyways sooooo... Btw how did this thread get so off track haha? |

They're fun little cars. I'm guessing you're talking about visibility with the top down? My sister's miata is impossible to see out of with the top up.

Haven't had any issues with mine w/o the spring. |
read up on the thread, it's just common sense that if you remove it, and the parts are loose that wear and tear can damage it. Do whatever you want, it's your car man. I'm not taking chances, the spring keeps it all in place snugly. And is very much an improvement and it was concluded that it's just as effective as no spring. So why remove it (with risk of damage), to save $15? This isn't a Civic. Do it right.
|
There's nothing loose under there either. The spring didn't do much of anything except kick the peddle up faster, thus making it more herky-jerky when shifting.

I have run both no spring and aftermarket spring. There is definitely more feedback without the spring than with the reduced strength aftermarket spring. So there is definitely reason to run without the spring assembly if you prefer how it feels. My position is, until someone can conclusively prove that it is causing any damage to the clutch assembly then there is no reason for me to worry. I have examined the assembly with and without the spring and there doesn't seem to be any ill affect by running without. This mod is common on the Z and on the G as well, and I have yet to hear of a failure as a result of running without. My advice would be to try it without. If you like it... great. Run it that way. If you like it but are worried about the limited speculation of possible long term negative effect... buy the weaker spring. |
I've had the spring out for 15,000 miles. In a couple of weeks I'm taking the pedal out to swap for the RJM one. I'll look for any areas of potential wear once I get it out. Where should I look?
