Driving from Los Angeles to TX tomorrow

I'm going to update this thread with LOLs along the way.

Hey mods, I know this might not be the right section, but the regions are slow.
Anyways... I'm driving from LA to Houston, TX tomorrow...
Where should I go, anything to do? People to see?
Please shoot me a text (31O)eight nine three-42O7
I'm planning on doing a 24 hour non stop drive
EDIT: I will be leaving late Saturday, or Sunday

Thanks, :tiphat:
Andrew

That's brutal man, I did that once and will never do it again

phelan 06-21-2013 04:21 PM

Anything to do? Try sleeping somewhere.

People to see? The people working whatever motel you decide to crash at.

:icon18: If you're trying to drive from LA to Houston in 24 hours you don't have time for anything. But if you want to stop by Austin, I'd be happy to buy/serve you a beer or install a mod for you :icon17:

I've got the Nissan Driving Academy tomorrow, but I can't imagine you would make it to Austin before it will be over.

SS_Firehawk 06-21-2013 04:29 PM

Stop by my place as you pass through, have Wifey give you a cold beer ;)
Mybe drop off the whitelines if you have space in your car lol

I don't mean 24 hours, more like I want to do it without spending the night anywhere.
My insomnia is pretty bad, so it shouldn't be TOO much of a stretch to make it in one go

(And please don't tell me it's dangerous) if I get tired, I WILL sleep, I'm not doing this to show off manliness or anything, lol

kenchan 06-21-2013 04:32 PM

so houston is katy freeway? santamonica 10 all the way straight?

lt_370z 06-21-2013 04:38 PM

First off I would like to say be safe during ur long drive to Houston. I have lived here for 5 years and absolutely love this place. If your here just to visit and have a good time here are a couple hang out places where you can enjoy a little bit of Houston.

Food:
Asian: Bellaire blvd/beltway 8 (all the asian food you can ask for)

BBQ: Rudy's BBQ (def. must try the extra moist brisket and sweet cream corn)

Brazilian Steakhouse: All you can eat meat at Chama Gaucha (well worth the price if you can put it away, $41.50 for dinner.

MF sushi: Try the Omakase (leave it in the chef's hands) its about $100 but you will thank me afterwards. Make a reservation because you need to sit at the sushi bar.

Anything in particular just yelp it!

Party atmostphere:
Washington Ave. (start at kung fu saloon and work your way down the strip)

also look up Midtown bars (red door, drinkery, wonderbar)

Another cool place to hang out is City Centre.

Shopping:
Galleria or Premium outlets

411:
The beltway requires you to pay toll so be prepared to have some change on you. Read the signs carefully or else they will send u a bill for toll violations.

Any other questions just let me know what else your intersted in doing.

Trips 06-21-2013 04:39 PM

If you run into any problems while in the Phoenix area, give me a call and I'll help you out (PM sent). Been here 12 years, and I really can't think of much worth a stop besides some great chow here and there. Good luck with the road trip!

Pete

CSGLEON 06-21-2013 09:14 PM

It was invite only and is not open to the general public. In fact, I am only attending as a guest of someone else who got the invite and managed to get in before registration was full.

Keep an eye on http://www.the370z.com/texas/34505-a...z-e-vents.html for local stuff

Thank you very much! Enough... Bullets... How is that possible??? I DO know that as soon as I cross the border to AZ, the handguns come out and the AR15 gets loaded.

Not taking the Z this time. My friend's mom has cancer that the doctors in LA SUCK at treating, and they have gone to Houston a few times for opinions and to get more specialized treatments and such. On Tuesday he flew out and on Thursday he said that the hospital there will open up their schedule and take over her whole case, so her texted me and called me today and asked if I can drive their car out because it looks like they're staying. And my friend is like my second brother, so no problem

Welllllll... I think I could do a beer an hour, my liver might BEAT me as I arrive to Houston, but I HIGHLY doubt a beer an hour will get me drunk or even tipsy with my size
And beer has carbs and alcohol is the first "nutrient" to bbe used as alcohol, so it's a great energy drink! (or did that not fool anyone?)

I made the drive from Dallas to TX about a year ago, and it was great. Probably 22 hours of driving time, I only stopped in Albuquerque because a member here said that he'd take me on the airforce base and show me some helicopters. And it was AWESOME!!! If it wasn't for that I would've probably tried to do it in one go. And I didn't drive fast, stopped whenever I wanted, ate whenever, stopped at rest areas just because it was beautiful even though I did probably hit 50-100 mile straight stretches of road... I DID however stop a few times on the freeway on those long straights and I did several burn outs and I did do it a few times later when it rained, LOL

Is it really that good? I've seen the place on various TV shows for YEARS.
On my way TO Los Angeles I didn't know that they were on the way, but I did stop by it and snap some photos.

Anything you recommend? I may be a fat ***, but god knows I can't compete in their challenge, lol

General Texas rule. When you are going to what is supposed to be a great Tx steak house. You usually want those proving grounds to be in the Ribeye or Prime rib cuts. It's the unofficial, official Texas cuts of meat. If they can't get those cuts right? They won't get many or any right. :tiphat:

Bone in rib eye is my steak of choice, and if they make it mediocre, they get a verbal raping. (I only order prime rib if that is THEIR thing)
If we end up going that way, we'll probably share a prime rib and a rib eye

I'll keep you guys posted if we end up going that way

Meh. When I drove to texas I went there... Their steak was honestly too fatty for me. I don't really like fatty steaks. I got the 32 ounce one and finished all the meat part but tons of fat left over =(

That extra fat is what makes the steak moist and juicy. :yum:

I am, very few, and Dallas and DFW are the same, lol
FW is REALLY redneck, Houston is ghetto as fùck (yes it has it's nice parts)
And Austin is CA Jr.

I'm a New Yorker and a strong critic of certain narrow-mindedness in Tx. That said, I wouldn't call Fort Worth as much Redneck as much as I call it traditional. Forney,White Settlement, Granbury is redneck.

Well the other way to get that is by getting your stakes really rare. That is what I usually do but then the fat like isn't really cooked and its just gross at that place so I had to have them cook it more than I normally would have liked.

I am a steak fiend. I usually go to outback steak house at least once a week. I always tell them to cook it 1 minute on each side =)

Honestly a bit of fat doesn't bug me but the amount of fat on those steaks was just ridiculous.

I am glad I went so I can atleast say I have gone there. I didnt go there on the way back although I did stop at an outback steak house in Albuquerque NM.
