Mosquitos!!!!!!

So, Tuesday I head to the grocery store for some yummy, delicious food. It's about 81 degrees outside, and I'm thinking "Wow, such warm weather for Fargo. This summer is great!"

I cruise down the street, windows down, waving at every nice car I pass by, just feeling good. I pull into the apartment parking lot, hop out the Z with about 5 neighbors watching me, keep the car running, open the trunk, and pull out bags.:excited:

2 mosquitos near the taillights I think "No problem." 10 seconds later.....Them Skeeters Started Bitin'! Probably about 50 swarming critters sent me flying into my apartment building, car doors open, engine running, dignity long lost.:shakes head: City officials ended up sending in low-flying duster planes to spray the town, as mosquito problems became pretty severe for everyone.

Just wondering how the mosquitos are in your area?

JARblue 06-20-2013 11:28 AM

Bad... year round... we don't have cold weather to drive them away :ugh2:

I thought the bats ate them all in Austin.

fonzo179 06-20-2013 11:32 AM

Both my parents are from Houston, and my grandmother is from Anahuac. I've felt the bite of the Texas-sized (tractor-sized more like it :icon17:) mosquitos - Ouch!

MX52Z 06-20-2013 11:34 AM

Welcome to Florida.

Only if you live under the Congress bridge :icon17:

Cmike2780 06-20-2013 11:48 AM

Every time I wash my car. It's like I'm holding up an all you can eat buffet sign for them. I've solved this by using an ordinary fan while I detail. I hate these f*ckers.

GSS138 06-20-2013 11:48 AM

SoCal has no water = no mosquitos. The few man made lakes in the area are stocked with fish to control mosquitos. Very rarely do you encounter them here.

SouthArk370Z 06-20-2013 11:55 AM

Mosquito = Arkansas State Bird. :)

There's a skeeter on my peter. Whack it off.
There's another on my brother. Whack it off.
There's a dozen on my cousin.
Can't you hear those suckers buzzin'?
There's a skeeter on my peter. Whack off.

I'm 27. Since I've been young (about 6yrs old), I have had a serious rivalry with the little, winged demon.

They're already talkin' west nile around these parts... :shakes head:

Yeah, I thank god, for the most part mosquitos don't like me. I average 20 bites a year. My wife is a different story. she'll get 20 bites in a week sometimes. I fight with her cuz they bite her all day and she keeps forgetting to use repellent.

:shakes head: DFW is not the place to be irresponsible with repellent.

Yea you got that right, they ate my :icon23: up the other day when I washed the Z and Max....Didn't have any OFF and was too lazy to go get some right then. :shakes head:

Haboob 06-20-2013 03:15 PM

There may exist five mosquitos in the Valley? We don't seem to have a problem. No moisture or standing water, as it all evaporates in about twenty seconds if left out.

kenchan 06-20-2013 03:21 PM

would drinking lots of coffee turn my blood into something mosquitoes hate?

i can't think of anything else ive changed over the decade other than drinking more coffee. i average about 8-9cups a day.

Mosquitos think old people stink. :icon17:

Caffeine overdosing maybe??? You need coffee drinkers anonymous.

Bat populations in Austin, like many other parts of the U.S. have taken a real crash. The effects on insect populations could be significant.

I hung 4 more bat boxes around the property this year. I love seeing em fly around the house eating the sh!t out of the bugs. Sweet revenge for when I installed my intakes and the mosquitos about damn near bled me dry.

falconfixer 06-21-2013 08:25 AM

Head up to Alaska in the summertime if you want to see a real mosquito...they come equipped with their own landing gear and tailhook!

Amj2020 06-21-2013 08:33 AM

Anything that inserts a syringe in my body without my permission is put to death instantly...if only I had a clue they were there...I hate these things, and the irony of scratching the bite and making it worse is all the more aggravating!

LOL I don't doubt it! (The northwest can be brutal) When I was in Tacoma, Washington in summer 2007, I felt like the world itself was (truly) angry at me. Mosquitos RACKED me and my fellow trainees during our outdoors exercises.

Florida is supposed to have an excessively large population of huge Galliniper Mosquitoes this year.

For size comparison:

Mt Tam I am 06-21-2013 10:01 AM

I do not allow standing water and my septic tank is covered so I rarely see them anymore. The little lady feels their effect more often.

fonzo179 06-21-2013 10:12 AM

Seems like marriage is a neat little bug repellant jk

It's weird because in my family the little pests always gravitated towards the males. Not sure if it's a geographical thing, blood condition thing or what. Just strange.

Must be Friday. I looked at the thread title and thought it said "Mojitos!!!!!!"
