Keeping up with the Pack...

I find that my 370Z 7Auto goes in the high RPM range to get off the line even at a stop light. It seems like when I push on the gas to make it keep up with everyone else I have to put the RPMS in the 3000-4000 rpm range. Is this normal?

Don't get me wrong its fast above that but it just seems strange that the engine has to rev up so high in the beginning just to get it off the line at a normal pace. Im not sure what the gearing is so maybe it attributes to that. I dunno just thought I would see what others are experiencing in their auto Z.

Also, we should start a wiki like the one below. I know there is a rule about posting links to other forums but this one isn't for 370z.

I noticed it,maybe due to a low 1st gear ratio.

Yeah, mine is pretty tame in the 1000 to ~4000 RPM's range. Above that and it's smoking! Totally different car above the 4000 range.

That's kind of interesting because the torque curve is so flat.

I think it has to do with throttle position and the ECU switching from "economy" to "Woah Nelly!"

It is unusual to say the least. I have never seen a car with so much power need to spin up so high to push itself off, its wierd.

We have torque but our car really shines in the higher RPMs, good launch is around 3500 which I do not find to high considering this car can quickly get up to above 6k if you are not ready for it.

I just went to an empty parking lot a played around with it a bit. I think the ECU is actually measuring not only how far you push the pedal but how fast you push it down as well. I push it down slightly in a slow manner and the car moves forward in a nice average pace; however, if I push it down about the same distance but do it very quickly the car will move forward very aggressively even though its still under 4000 rpm.

Looks like Nissan refined the throttle by wire to be predict your current driving situation and react accordingly. The more I play with it the more I realize how intuitive it really is.
