Door dings! People are idiots.

So the girlfriend and I went to the theater and I took the car. I made sure to park way off in the distance only to be greeted by a nice big ding on the drivers door. Man I hate people. Does anyone make a magnetic stick on piece that you can place on your door to keep these idiots from wrecking my paint? There must be something removable out there that you can stick on when parked so then at least the door hits that instead of the paint.

I'm pretty sure it was the vehicle parked next to me that did it. The mark on my door lined up with theirs but I was not sure enough to leave them a note or something.

N1atmax 05-21-2013 11:47 PM

People are idiots, oblivious and some do it out of spite.
Years ago I had a pristine second gen RX-7. I came out of a grocery store to see it had been hit by 2 eggs. I had parked it normally (not across two spots), i was so pissed. Spite!
My wife's step Dad used to pull up or back up until he " tapped something" then he would go the other direction. In his case he was oblivious to the damage he was causing.

Park far far away is what I say. Sorry bro get it fixed PDR.

Leuz 05-22-2013 02:14 AM

Do you have a GoPro near by? The suction cup on it can be used to pull our door dings if mounted well.

This only works with certain dents though. Door dings are usually too "small" to be pulled out with a GoPro mount, as strange as that sounds...

CDepp 05-22-2013 04:22 AM

Strip any wax off the area, then heat gun and a block of ice. Polish, condition, and reapply wax. Or, have a body shop fix. Door dings suck!

Jasonle 05-22-2013 06:21 AM

Even park far away theres always some idiot that wants to park next to you. For example last weekend I parked the farthest spot possible...no cars around...and some fool in a volvo parked right next to me:ugh2:

GaleForce 05-22-2013 06:41 AM

Sorry to hear Mitch. Sucks.

kenchan 05-22-2013 07:07 AM

Sorry to hear. Take it to a pdr tech. Don't touch it if you don't know what you are doing it only makes the metal more distorted. Makes it that much harder to pdr.

Ding is usually one impact. It's a lot easier to fix one impact vs multiple impacts.

roclive75 05-22-2013 07:45 AM

It all comes down to pure jealousy... if people would just worry about themselves this world would be so much better!!!

Mitco39 05-22-2013 08:49 AM

I should be able to get it out, it didnt dent the paint, just left a nice big white scrape on the door. The car has a few others as well. And I did park as far away as I could, but as with parking around many of the theaters here they fill right up. Next time I am going to park across the road and walk, I thought of doing it this time around but at the time where I parked was next to two nicer vehicles on the edge of the lot.

I need something like this... lol. Not only will the ugliness make people less jealous, the bumper will keep the careless twits away.

This sh!t happens to me all the time, I even asked the guy when I was coming out of the store "Hey, out of this entire damn parking lot you had to park right next to me in the empty section, why?" All he did was shrug his shoulders... :shakes head:

MX52Z 05-22-2013 09:31 AM

Those would be stolen so fast...

Certain cars are like children. You have to keep an eye out on them at all times. To many predators.

If your paint isn’t cracked pop them dents out with wires. Here in California we have Dent Pro they come to you takes like 20min to take out.

 no dent is good news. scratch-x and foam pad should take care of that then. :D ("ding" usually means it's dented..wat you got is a scratch/scuff).

you need a dd if you're anal. :D i know my Z is not a ferarri or anything exotic, but i dont have the time to be fixing and worrying about wat stupid might do to my car while im out and about.

dd just makes my life a lot easier... and be able to carry kids in the back too which my Z can't do anyway.

Mitco39 05-22-2013 10:06 AM

Thats true, more of a scratch. Ding was not the right word, although im sure it will happen. This car attracts this people like flies to shiiii, I mean sugar. haha.

I do have a DD, but when summer is only around for so long I do try and get out in the car as much as I can. I usually weigh it before every trip, if I am going to someplace I know will be bad I will typically take the truck. But last night it was so nice out and I haven't drove the car for 4-5 days. haha.

ajc1884 05-22-2013 10:16 AM

oh yah, you do list a duramax in your sig.

yah, it's understandable. too bad some people suck. they just want to pull people down to their level.

ParkStr8 05-22-2013 11:50 AM

I'm so buying these - for my garage at work. All the idiots and they way they park.

I'm not going to be sexist - but I've seen some people swing their doors way open so they can get their purses/bags out - followed by huge hips.

Just sayin...

Apoc370z 05-22-2013 11:55 AM

I seriously lost weight after i got the Z. Sometimes i park so far that i forgot where i actully parked.

Chuck33079 05-22-2013 11:57 AM

I need to call a good PDR guy. Some asshat in the parking garage at work left me a nice ding on the passenger door six weeks or so after I bought the car. I was so tempted to reciprocate, but he's the *******, not his car. It just didn't seem right.

RiCharlie 05-22-2013 12:07 PM

Caught the offender

Many years ago I had a silver honda prelude. I used to work as a salesman for WHJJ which is a radio station. The company owned both HJJ and HJY.. HJJ was talk for older people ....and HJY was music for younger people.

One day I came out of work and discovered a deep gash in the side of my prelude caused by some clown opening the door and apparently banding my door several times.. I was pissed but what could I do..

A couple of weeks later I drove home on the other side of town to find my son in the house with his friends...The friend admitted to hitting the car and he showed up, driven by his mother, with money to fix car..

How did this happen?

It turns out that as I drove into my driveway, my son's friend saw the car and asked my son, "Does your father work for WHJY?" My son said "No" and asked why.. The kid said he was relieved because he had been in the HJY parking lot and opened his door hitting a car just like mine.. He said he got angry and hit it several times more.. At that point my son said, "my father does not work at HJY but he does work at HJJ and they have the same parking lot! It was my fathers car you hit!""

my son knew the kids mother.. and the kid showed up with the money..driven by his mother ..and gave the money to have it fixed....I took the money and told him he ought to be damn thankful for having a mother like he did even though he did no appreciate it at the time..

Can you believe this coincidence?? True story..

Zomg 05-22-2013 12:30 PM

I have a trick that has avoided car dings for the last 2 years and that is... not to line your car door up with the next car and make sure the cars you park next to aren't cars with long doors that open wide. It sounds crazy but I am very consistent about who and where I park.

Long doors are definitely something to look out for. But sometimes you cannot control who comes up and parks beside you. I usually look for vehicles that look like they are well taken care of, or other expensive cars. Which is what I did last night only to come out to some crap car parked next to mine.

True True.....sometimes when you park out you become a victim out of someones envy just because....:icon14:

Magnetic door protectors will not work on aluminum doors..

Also, PDR is also a bit more fun as a result of the aluminum. Its a plus when it comes to weight savings but they do dent really easily compared to normal sheet metal.

kenchan 05-22-2013 03:38 PM

yah, plus those things look gimicky... like a joke almost. :icon17:

arsehole will probably move the piece, ding your door, and place it back ontop of the ding. just to be funny.

I have seen large older women who get out of some large 20 year old american sedan and literally push their door against the car next to them to get leverage to get their fatness out of their car....No hater, just lazy and inconsiderate..

Yep....Just amazing...Unbelievable....I was in too much shock to get her plate and a picture and leave a note for the other car...I could not believe what I saw...After I felt bad for not interferring...

yah, i was at an icecream stand so i just told the guy what i saw when he returned, and the fat lady came back to her car they were talking about it.

i overheard the lady say something like 'not my problem, talk to the store manager for making the parking spots too narrow' or something. :ugh2:

i just left after that.

That is why all my Cars are parked far away in the Lots....Only when I have to park close, I do it with my truck and not the "Z" Cars...I know when I am going to the small lots I don't bring the Z cars..

But I understand that these people do not care about themselves, so they sure won't care about others...I can live with that...
