How many Z owners actually browse the forums?
Something happened to me, indirectly, that is, that made me wonder - how many Z owners or Z enthusiasts actually browse the 370Z forums? Of course, regular owners that aren't interested in performance, or only need to lookup repair information or problems with the car won't go in depth in the forum.
I had a guy calling BS to my girlfriend that I was turbocharging my car, when the only turbo kit available was "a STS remote kit, or a GReddy kit, both for 10k." My girlfriend responded that I was getting "a GTM-something kit," and he basically called me a liar, haha. He also commented that there was not many lips for the 370Z, and that he had never heard of EVO-R. He also assumed I was some rich kid with lots of daddy's money. He drove a Nismo, with some basic bolt ons. It's odd to me - before I remotely confirmed buying this car, I researched this forum pretty deeply - as I did with the Hyundai Genesis forums (blasphemous, right?), G37 forums, etc. Almost everything I have done to my car was informed by the quality posts on this forum, and it also has inspired me to do my own stuff as well. I know lots of people don't research stuff concerning anything, but it just makes sense to me to research what has been done, what is available, what works, what doesn't, etc. I would never have known to go with 20/25 spacers, that the CSC is prone to failure / transmission grinds, what tire sizing works, and little other tips and tricks. |
I browse the DIY section religiously to help me decide on what mod i want to do next based on the tools and time i have available to me.
I also look at a lot of the members galleries to get ideas on what I want to do on my Z. |
Well, the number of mildly active members compared to total Z owners is almost nothing.
At the end of the day, you just happened to meet a prick. It happens, next time, tell him to join the forum and find you And I LIVE here, others may own the house, but I definitely spend A LOT of time here and I feel I am pretty well known. I also check the parts section them straight to new posts so I can see anything and everything that's posted. (How I saw this post) I try to help in any way I can, but at the same time, search feature/google questions get answered prickish... |
well, this forum replaced facebook for me... so its safe to say im on ALL the time lol
|
No wonder I can't find the info I need I thought this was a Prius forum.
I'm OUT!!!!!!! |
I think you kind of answered the question for yourself. I started joining car forms about 10 years ago when I got into FFR Cobras. Since then, I've membered up with Corvette and Viper forums, as well as this forum. You simply can't find better info on the car in question than on forums. There certainly is a lot of b.s. to sift through, mainly from members who don't use the search feature of fret about silly issues (feel free to fill in the blank).
I recommend joining forums to any friend looking to buy a new car, especially if it's a higher end or performance car. I agree most buyers don't, but I realy think it's in part because they don't know they exist. Too bad, it's an awesome resource. I've only owned my Z for a few weeks, but I already made what I believe is an informed decision on an aftermarket exhaust (FI, baby!!), and adding K&N filters to the stock airboxes. Rock on, 370Z forum! |
DEpointfive...who?
:rofl2: |
Thing is your going to run into an idiot or two on ANY forum haters that have nothing better to do then to get under somebody's skin and Piss them off. It's inevitable
End of the day every one has to justify why we are on here if you ask my wife it's to much and if you ask me if she has to many pairs of shoes I would have to say yes it is what it is but I can tell you that the majority on this forum they are enthusiast like my self most love the z but are passionate about cars period I would bet most of these guys that know what they are doing around the z can fix or give great advise on most cars there are ALOT of good peaple in here that are willing to take the time and help a stranger that happens to love the same car as you don't let a couple bad apples ruin it for you. Sorry you and wife had to deal with it but again great peaple in here |
I'm on here pretty regularly. I've been a member since before I owned a Z. I joined to look at the members cars but when I went looking for a new car I was considering the Z and used the forums to research the car.
You can't get better information than from the people who live with the car everyday. Now that I own one I too use the DIY and other sections to see what I want to do (or not do) to my car. Or when I need it, to bounce issues off the other Z owners. I appreciate the info on here and the people that take their time to help. You can't force people to seek knowledge. If that idiot wants to think he knows it all, let him. Who cares? |
As I have got older I have paid less attention to sports and more into cars because personally I don't care to follow a team religiously when I have so say or control of the outcome of their season. Dont get me wrong i still love sports but i hardly follow it. As of lately cars have been my passion. I have complete control on what I do to my car, provided I don't get into an accident. I may not make many posts but I am always reading threads because the more I learn the better I can make my car and minimize the costly mistakes people have already made. If possible, why not learn from others mistakes. So I am always on here searching and reading.
|
I spend more time here than I do on FB [oh wait, I ditched it months ago]. I need a the370z.com widget for my phone.
As for the guy calling you out... whatever, get the kit installed and tuned PRONTO and enjoy it. |
For all the car forums I frequent, it is really obvious that the forum community is a very, very small subset of the owner community. While the ratio tends to be better on rare cars like exotics and low production cars, it still is really minimal.
Just know that you are doing the right thing for yourself. Arming your brain with research and information only makes you a better owner, and gearhead in general. And really that goes for any aspect in life. In contrast to the guy you mention, his ignorance may hurt him in the future with potential unexpected mechanical failure, or just a general lack of knowledge of what options are available. But you could change that. Offer to meet up with the guy and talk cars. Maybe he will get something out of it and cease to be an assuming d-bag. |
I spend almost no time here and I currently have 2 Z's -- I have had 11 total in my lifetime and a couple of other assorted Datsuns.
:icon17: |
I myself visit this forum at least 3 times a day, haha. It's what you can call an addiction. But in all seriousness, I knew about all the people clamoring about the oil temperature issues, transmission grinds, CSC failures, and what what way before I walked into the dealership. The side effect of reading this forum? It made me really love and appreciate the Z so much. Hence why I got one! My car has had a few of the hiccups, but nothing that a warrantied part couldn't hold me over until aftermarket parts roll in.
Of course I'll run into the occasional d-bag. No harm there. I only wish I could have been there! I enjoy making new buddies in the car scene, whether it be at a local car meet, or randomly elsewhere. This fella seemed like one of the more "cocky" Z owners. Speaking of calling out cars, my favorite *ahem* spirited driving events always involve the rash of people around my age that think their bolt-on Evo/STi/Genesis/SRT-4 is sooooooo fast. :p God I need GTM to ship the MHI turbo kits already. It was my birthday yesterday, they should send me one now? :happydance: |

my 370 was two cars ago for me and I still stick around.
|
Im on the forums quite a bit, however im mostly a lurker. If it werent for car forums (myspecv, my350z, and this one) I would be completely cartarded. I have learned so much about cars in the past 5 years.
|
I have been on this site for 3 years and the only thing I've learned is how to type.
|
I'm on here a little too much. Equal time FB and the370Z, making me about 23% productive at work.
|
I am on the forums daily and for at least an hour.... but I also administer two social groups too. One for the Black Rose/Cherry/Bordeaux colour cars and one for the Zedmonton Lounge. The Lounge is super active and is a mini forum in itself! I have probably an extra 5000 posts of my own in there...!!!
Personally, I enjoy the DIY section the most as I like to see what people are doing as well as write up my own articles when I can offer something back to the group. |
I spend around 6 hours a day on this forum just reading. I use to get off of work and play Call of Duty for countless hours. I don't think I have cut my Xbox on in weeks. Sad as that sounds. But being I can't drink or go anywhere cause of my location I only have a few options to entertain myself outside of work.
|
Wait, this isn't a porn site? Something's wrong with me.
I obviously didn't read the fine print when I signed up. :shakes head: |
I am on this site every day at least a gazillion times a day. I look at the DIY's and the for sale info. I have found everything I need to know about my Z here I use this for everything.
|
Im here now and will be again tomorrow. Who knows what part of the forum my keyboard, eyes and mouse will take me to next. Great place to be!
|
i come here from time to time as well.

The forum is my sweet escape from my boring job. Makes me feel good imagining other working grunts like me hammering away at a keyboard...bosses lurking like sharks just waiting to pounce.....
-Hey!!! You got that REPORT ready??? -No Sir, just uhh, comparing this quarter's numbers to last quarter. I understand the math, but I've been working the "so what" factor for our proposal to headquarters. Sorry, Sir. -Okay, okay, no worries, that sounds good. Just get it to me before close of business. -Yes, Sir. :icon17: |
He probably just reads some tuner magazines every month and thinks he knows a lot about his car. Truth is, forums end up containing pretty much everything about the car and printed in the forum language. When the language is English, that's a pretty big chunk of information.
I went on the forums of every car that I was considering when I was buying, because I like to be truly informed about what I'm getting. I was reading this forum looooong before I ever test drove a 370Z. I'm pretty sure most people on here are the type that like to be in the know, and be knowledgable about their cars. Unfortunately, the majority of the world is not like that. |
You people are killing me. How do you afford the Z AND FI ? :shakes head: I'm still trying to figure out if I can do it. I know...'don't know the answer to the question then I don't need it'. You're not in my world. I was in the same position with a 65" plasma a while back, I just sold enough toys to fund the project. I convinced the wife but that's only half the battle. :stirthepot:
|
I visit about 3 times a day. I have got all of my information from this site since the day I bought my Z. It is good to be armed with knowledge when you have to deal with people that don't know what they are talking about.
|
I agree with some members......
