You're doing it backwards. Once you go test drive the car, you'll be far more likely to make an emotional decision that gets you on the hook for an unreasonable insurance bill. There will always be other cars.

so should i shop for insurance first? and spend more time there than on the car?

Yes. Figure out your total cost of ownership before you get too far into shopping for the car.

You have a point. I made this exact same mistake. However I knew my insurance would sky rocket owning this car so I was ready for the increase in premium.

First year, cost was ~$1500 for 6 months for 370Z
Second year, cost is ~$1000 for 6 months for 370Z

clean record, defensive driving discount, 28 single male.

no change in coverage at all.

If you're under 25, good luck. I owned a POS 1995 240sx at 23 and even still insurance was $1400 for 6 months at the STATE MINIMUM. I can only image what a 370Z would be :icon14: Once I hit 25, the rate plummeted to $580 for 6 months.

I don't always get insurance. But when I do, I prefer USAA. 24 hour live customer service, easy to navigate iPhone/Android App, flexible plans that can be changed on-the-fly...

27 yr old male
Location - North Dakota (people suck *** driving here, no nonsense)
Never been in an accident
$500 deductable
I pay $195 a month because I claimed ALL of my aftermarket ****. I'm straight forward with them everytime I add ANYTHING new.

USAA, I'm 24, wife is military. I pay $112 a month for insurance.

Actually my premiums went up from when I lived in El Paso to where I live now in Wa state. I've been with USAA for 8 years, I'll be 30 next month, no tickets since 03, paying 160/month full coverage for my Z and Tacoma. When I was in Texas I was paying 130 for both vehicles. Damn you west coast premiums!

Minsu 05-07-2013 03:19 PM

USAA, is that a well known company? do i need any eligibility for it

Tell me about it :shakes head:

For a city that relies mostly on public transportation, I have no idea why it's so expensive to insure a car in New York City.

One of the best out there, but you have to be affiliated with the military in some shape or form.
