Today went ok.....but not 100% great....

In NO way am I saying anything negative in this post about Altered Atmosphere or Stillen...I just want that made clear from the start. Simply stating facts from today. With that said....

But it wasnt horrible, either. Got to Altered Atmosphere around 8:30 AM and they took my car right in. Basically the sway bars are on  the coilovers are on  and the headers are on !

The wheels are tires look amazing. They were using them as display items at the front of the store, in fact! They already had the blue Volk & Rays stickers on them so thats cool. And the stems are blue, too! The locking lugs are flat black so again, thats cool!

Only down side is....when they installed the headers it dropped the exhaust down about 2 to 3 inches. My exhaust is actually hanging lower than the oil pan at this moment! They said I could take the car home but when they push the exhaust back in place it causes a great deal of stress on it and I could possibly crack the manifold.

So, the car is still at the shop tonight. Feels really strange knowing the car isnt in the driveway. I called Josh @ Stillen and I told him the two options Altered suggested and he wants me to call Altered tomorrow and have them send me pics of the exhaust and then send them to him (Josh). Josh is going to take the pics to whomever at Stillen can digest the problem and contact Altered Atmosphere. Josh is very confident all will be resolved tomorrow as is Jon at Altered Atmosphere.

If I remember right Altered suggested shortening the HFC's as one option or installing an extra part on the exhaust that would be springy and would then take away the stress on the exhaust. Stillen wants me to call Altered tomorrow and tell them to not do anything until someone from Stillen talks with the tech who is installing my bolt ons.

So close....yet so far away! :icon14: The car is staying through Friday and I should be able to pick it up Saturday morning. Ugh...the next 24 to 48 hours are gonna stink without my car. :p

Be waiting to see how this turns out, and how it gets fixed.

She will get fixed. But that unplanned stay at the shop, that is what is really bothersome.

I think it may already have an answer.....Semtex led me to this thread:

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...tallation.html

And the photos and the issues he describes are 100% to a tee what the issue is I'm having. I'll be pointing Altered Atmosphere to the thread in the morning.

(Thank you, Semtex! I owe you.....again!) :icon17:

sucks, but it happens. One of the downsides to modding. Hang in there.

fly yellow 07-23-2009 08:23 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing pics of those Volks on the car, and I'd love to meet you at Capital Raceway to see what kind of numbers your car puts up with those mods.

I meant to make it up there a few weeks ago but dang summer cold kicked in! Next time for sure. ;)

fly yellow 07-23-2009 08:37 PM

I was going to go to that as well, but I drank a bit too much the night before. They have test and tune every Friday night. For 20 bucks you can make as many runs as time allows.

2theextreme 07-23-2009 08:40 PM

^^ Nice! Might have to work out something in the coming weeks. I was told I'll need to go back to Altered in a week or so after all the mod's are on to get another balancing. After that, I should be good to go!

Stillen seems to have some of the worst fitment of their exhaust components on the forums. At least they back it up with grade A customer support.

nogoodname 07-23-2009 10:06 PM

frost is a lemon.

wondering what Stillen's response is after seeing some photographs...... yea, i said photographs and not pics...lol

:iagree: Josh was right on it right from the moment I explained my situation. (P.S. - I'm loving that avatar you have! Hilarious! ;))

I got a feeling I can just show the photos in Semtex's thread. They really do look almost exactly what my car looks like right now on the lift @ Altered. As soon as I saw those images I was like  Is that my car?? :icon17:

nogoodname 07-23-2009 10:30 PM

:p new shoes, indeed!

Ryan@Forged 07-24-2009 07:47 AM

Sorry to hear about your fitment issues. It sounds like you are getting sufficient support and the car should be back to you soon enough ;)

It sounds like you are happy with the wheels ;) I told you I would get them to you in the condition they would need to be to put them right on the car ;) Can't wait to see the pictures. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help in the future!

tooohip 07-24-2009 08:00 AM

Ah bummer, but it sounds like you are close. I'm surprised they can't get the car to you today though. They did a crap load yesterday in one day, not sure why they couldn't get an alignment issue straightened out today and have it to you by this afternoon.

It's not like they do any work there on Saturday's anyway... ;-)

You're welcome. FYI, it's Stillen's headers that throw off the alignment slightly.
