2003 BMW M3 convertible 6spd manual, Carbon Black on Cinnamon with 19" optionals. The warranty had expired and I had two years left to pay. Started driving it tentatively, no fun. Plus, my wife didn't like it because of the vert and manual. Since having the blue Z (loaded with 7AT) since April I have the following conclusions:

-I only occasionally miss manual, though the M seemed to pull better from 3000 rpm.
-I liked the M steering wheel thickness and controls better, though I much prefer the Z tilt.
-I liked the M seats better (seemed more sturdy).
-Ergonomics is a wash, though the Z wins hands down for techy stuff (the M did not have Navi, Bluetooth or Sat radio and the Ipod interface is way better on the Z).
-The M had a nicer ride over rough roads and I sometimes miss open-air driving.
-The Z looks WAY more like a sports car. To some, the M was just another 3 series.

Overall, absolutely no regrets trading in the M despite missing it sometimes.

Does the 7AT hunt for gears at all going uphill?

wanta370 08-20-2009 11:06 PM

I watched the OP's video but can't figure out how he managed to park the car behind the tree like that...
1. without the engine.
2. without the front wheels to steer the car.
and 3. most amazingly, in critical condition with critical injuries to the head.

FASTEDDIE 08-29-2009 08:37 AM

Just traded my 07 vette coupe for 09 touring sport 7AT. After being a vette guy my entire life it is easy for me to say my z is by far a better car. The only thing the vette did better was straight line acceleration. The z is easier to drive hard, more comfortable. better built. and better looking. My wife who was afraid to drive the vette, was behind the wheel of the z for 30 seconds and said I REALLY LIKE THIS. That could be a bad thing, she will be trying to swap her 09 mini cooperS for the z any time she can.

What? DUI for blowing a .024? It was .08 last time I was in GA for a DUI. And second, hit a bear? I mean who crashes into bears? I would like to hear the story behind that. Any pics?

mrarroyo 08-29-2009 11:50 AM

What? They allow DAWGS in here? ;) Just kidding although I am a Yellow Jacket '81 I have a lot of friends from UGA.

Anyways, back on topic a 2004 Vette Convertible and a 1970 VW Beetle. Sold the Vette but kept the Beetle. ;)

He must mean he blew a .24. I'd like to hear the story behind hitting the bear also. I would imagine the damage would be far greater than the more common deer crashes...

Who are you talking to? MeetJoeAsian (the original poster) did not crash the car. He sold it to another guy who crashed it. No lesson for him to learn. Sorry to sound like YOUR DAD but reading comprehension is important junior...

Previous car (and the one that I traded in) was a 2006 Infinity FX35.

Lone Wolf 75 08-30-2009 02:27 PM

Let's see:

1) 1983 Datsun/Nissan 810 Maxima - it had the same (although likely detuned) inline 6 2.4L that was originally in the 240Z. Sadly, I totalled it on when I drove over a patch of black ice and ended up in a ditch

2) 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo - Big, heavy, and fast. One of my HS Girlfriends nicknamed it "The Beast." I always wanted to restore it, but was a poor college student at the time.

3) 1979 Oldmobile Omega - Nothing remarkable about this one.

4) 1986 Toyota Camry - I used to joke that this car used to have 88 hp, but about 40 of the horses died somewhere along the way. This was my first manual transmission, I ended up replacing two clutches.

5) 1988 Ford Thunderturd - One of my friends called this thing the "Millennium Falcon," I preferred "The Big White Dehydrated Piece of Dog Sh!t" since this vehicle cost me tremendous amounts of money to keep it running. My favorite failure was when the digital dashboard would die whenever I turned on the headlights, so that at night I had no idea what speed I was going.

6) 1992 Subaru Legacy L - This car was the most reliable that I ever had. A bit austere and underpowered, but still a good car that got phenomenal gas mileage.

7) 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - A great car. Although quirky looking, it was a great reliable, fun to drive, good performing car. There were a few things I felt like I needed to modify to get it to look and perform the way I wanted it.

8) 2009 Nissan 370Z - Bought in late July '09. I love it.

datsunguy 08-30-2009 04:34 PM

03 350 bought new in June of 03 and traded in on my 370 in Jan 09. I'm sure the 370 won't be my last Z or Nissan.

I started driving in 1998 and it's been a rough ride....

1989 Toyota Corolla 4 Door DX - Hand-me-down from parents. Vandalized at school.

1996 Pontiac Grand Am - Shared with mom (she didn't work). Step Dad got it repo'd.

1990 Chevy S10 Blazer 2 Door - Sold I think?

1987 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham - Sold to friend.

1987 Honda Accord LXi Hatchback - Motor locked up.

1989 Honda Accord LXi Sedan - Wrecked, motor and tranny blown, sold for parts. The guy had it running and looking new in 2 months out of his garage lol.

1992 Nissan 240SX SE Coupe - Traded in.

1997 Nissan 240SX SE Couple - Wrecked, sold to friend and we repaired it.

http://www.liquidc4.net/images/97_240sx_wrecked.jpg
http://www.liquidc4.net/images/97_240sx_primered.jpg

1971 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe LWB - For some reason it had an 83 Olds 305 in it (matched the Q-Jet S/N) and blew. Traded some rockers to brother for his used 350, later the trans pump went out. Ordered and installed a "performance" T350. Head cracked a while later and I put in a new 350 4-bolt, now the trans is screwin up again. It's sitting in a friend's garage right now (nice friend heh), I'll prob just pull the motor and sell it, scrap the truck itself.

1995 Dodge Spirit - New trans, radiator, heater core, cylinder head, plus a lot of little things. It's trying to die again so I'll just make a couple bucks from a junk yard for it.

2009 Nissan 370Z Nismo - just picked it up 08/20 and I'm finally happy. I'll never buy another used car to use as a daily driver ever again. :driving:

When I get my 370z it'll be my current Mini Cooper S...

Cloggerdude 08-30-2009 09:56 PM

I've had pretty much all Honda cars before my 370z. The last few were:

1997 Honda Accord
1998 Acura CL
2000 Honda Prelude
2000 S2000

I traded the S2000 in on my new Chicane Yellow 370Z just yesterday. I loved driving my S2K, but it made a pretty abysmal daily driver. The 370Z is just so much smoother, both in terms of ride quality and engine noise. The extra power doesn't hurt either...

I'm loving my new Z so far, and I'm sure the love affair will continue for a good while.

huff442 08-30-2009 09:56 PM

I've had lots of old muscle in the past. 1972 Cutlass Hurst-Olds, 1979 Z28, 1964 Chevellle SS. It was time to get a modern ride that i didn't have to wrench on. It's more fun when you are wrenching because you WANT to. Besides, 300+Hp with the air blowing cold is nice. So, I sold my 2008 Tacoma Quad-cab and bought my 370Z.

Still have the Audi for a daily driver. I'll get rid of it when the new Toyobaru is released :o
