New but not so loyal members

I've noticed allot lately in the forsale section that there are a number of members "parting out, selling" their car parts with post counts that are very low.

I'm wondering why all of a sudden the forum is a great place to sell stuff but not great enough to post things or spend time in,this really bugs me!!!

What say you.

3.7 ZPA 04-05-2013 07:59 PM

I think most people use this place as a source of knowledge. They do the work, but stay quiet. When they're done with the car, this really is a good place to unload their parts and grab some cash for the next endeavor. I did it with the Si forums. I think it's good for both sides of the community. Most probably don't have any interest in mingling online. Although input from all members is welcome, it's definitely not inevitable.

Yeah but thats like me coming over to your house maybe a few times a week to eat and never buy groceries.

I'm not saying they have to be friends with everyone but don't chime in and then what to use the site to sell things, just doesn't sound right.:shakes head:

kenchan 04-05-2013 08:06 PM

Its all your fault, baer!

I blame the regret threads.

It's a public forum, get over it!

I only had ~200 posts through my first year or more of membership. But I didn't sell anything in that time period except an extra sport spare tire I had. I lurked hardcore and purchased intakes from a forum sponsor, installed them myself, and began to DIY the oil change.

Yeah but you have over 4000 post now, thank YOU for your contribution to the forum:tiphat:

MJB 04-05-2013 08:48 PM

I don't really care, I just would never consider buying anything with someone that has a low post count or no rep on here. Anybody remember the short tail exhaust fiasco a while back? Huck, care to chime in... LMAO.

I also don't buy from low post count or low rep people.

I don't lose any sleep over it,it is just a observation.

tower74 04-05-2013 09:01 PM

To be honest I never knew this forum was here until I had problems with my FI I just had installed on my car. Then I lurked around for awhile but couldn't find anything on it. Stupid STS crap.

But after going into my area section I started to meet other people and stuck around. Now me and one other guy are the old farts but it doesn't matter because it about the Z and not your age. Some people just think it's a bunch of punk asss kids that own these cars so they stay away. Plus with the amount of trolling that goes on the internet now a days it's hard to avoid so troll with the ones you have something in common with..

I don't REALLY care... And...
Honestly, I don't know how much any of us can REALLY add anymore. I have 4000~ posts. I'd be surprised if 20% of my posts were really helpful. Almost everything has been done and said, most of us are here to fück around. Hell, the top... 5-10 posters don't post often in tech threads, most of their posts are in word association or the OG threads...
(Because I know this will piss her off and hopefully she knows I'm just fücking around)
Nina... I've seen her post... 1 thing for sale? I've NEVER seen a post she's made besides that outside the Prem/OG threads... So, does that mean she's one of the most useless forum members?

At the end of the day, this is the Internet which is public, then the forum is public as well. Other forums block you from seeing pictures and such... Such a PAIN IN THE ÀSS... I HATE it... It's like look, all I wanted to know was what oil filter does a 2007 Prius use? Or where is the fuse for... (Whatever it may be)...
So I'm thankful that for a really casual 370Z owner we can answer their 1-2 quick questions without having to be approved by AK or having to post 10 times to make a thread...

Both sides are gaining something, though, so I don't feel the situations are even closely related. The Z34 has almost run its course, so you're going to see a lot more of this in the coming years.

m4a1mustang 04-05-2013 10:16 PM

Some people just don't like to post much. Like me.

bdavis89 04-05-2013 10:23 PM

It's like a normal conversation...some people talk more than others, some are all business, etc. It will be interesting to see what happens to the forum as the car becomes cheaper and the owners become younger (and I'm saying this as a 24 yr old). I have to say I learn a TON from the older members and all their experience and knowledge of cars, parts, and engines in general. Can I always contribute? No, because I'm not one to talk about something I don't know about, but I enjoy learning and try to pass along information I've learned whenever possible.

It will be just like the My350z forum..... :shakes head:

DufDaddy 04-05-2013 10:47 PM

Just curious where would you expect someone with a ton of 370Z parts try to sell them? I'm not sure what you would expect out of a member of the forum? What should they contribute at this point: every DIY has been done, if they post an issue or question that has been answered before they get met with a "Try your search button, it works" reply. I use this forum as a knowledge source and to post pics and that's about it. The only new stuff I can contribute is my growing knowledge of PlastiDip and it uses, but the second I even type the word PlastiDip, I get called a ricer, etc. So I'll contribute where it is appreciated.

Luciano13 04-05-2013 11:07 PM

This is a good question,
I think the reason why there isn't that many replies on this forum is like any other forum or profession.....u have the guys that are interested: the guys that read the posts, the guys that have done things with there car: creating posts, and the guys that know everything about the 370Z cause they've done it all: they guys replying to all the posts.
I ask questions on this forum, i create posts on this forum, & if I've experienced something with my Z, i reply to other posts. Majority of people that search this forum or any other specific forum, is to get help or ideas for their Z. Can't really put down any member if they don't feel the need to post a reply or create a post....
This is a great forum for info & ideas, and its all because of the members.
Maybe we should say thanks to all the members that have shared their experience and knowledge about the 370Z on the forum instead of wondering where them at.....:tiphat:

That's racist.

Just in the past two days i've noticed this is the For sale section, and its not that it really bothers me, but I hate when your trying to get a response and you have to continually try to contact them. If your gonna put your parts up for sale at least make an effort to respond to the people that are interested.

Cuban Z 04-06-2013 01:22 AM

Just because somebody doesn't post doesn't mean that they are not a good member. I know plenty of guys and gals that may say something here and there or not at all that are rock solid. High post count does not equal good member in my book. Nor do I feel that people that read and learn but don't post are somehow taking advantage of those that do post. I'm just happy to be here with a great group of Z people!

enkei2k 04-06-2013 02:15 AM

Nothing wrong with people parting out/selling. That just means other members get a shot at parts they might need for cheaper than retail, but risk getting scammed unless they're local.

lhinojos 04-06-2013 02:31 AM

Can't tell if I fit the criteria for this or not. I'm only 20 and I don't know much about cars, but the little I have learned I do share. And I do share my opinions when people ask for em. I also ask for em lol(ex. Help choosing wheel color thread). I also try to sell stuff on the for sale section. My post count is only just above 200 but I positive that number will only go up lol

I guess ill just leave this forum........NOT. I'm here to stay b****es! Deal with it!

haha no worries, I hear ya tho I only have a few hundred posts but am constantly on the forum learning new info and looking up things, I'm just frustrated with that I've shown interest in some parts, ready to send payment, but they don't seem motivated to make the deal.

It worked the other day.

I just can't get anything right. :(

Edit: Apparently it just doesn't want to allow anyone to view it from the outside. So much for trying, copying the URL is apparently wrong.

ElVee 04-06-2013 11:28 AM

I think part of it may be after x years of Z discussions, there's less new info to present, but tons and tons of info to consume on these forums. Either way, a healthy car forum should have hardcores, contributors, and newbies with light usage populating the parts forums and whatnot. It's all good. :)

asdfsammich 04-06-2013 01:36 PM

I think Baer rocks on account of his and Dais SL hack thread saving me from getting stranded, and saving me, at the time $1,500! So, yeah, really great contribution.

But, now that the SL was recalled Baer needs a new forum cause.

Like in the SL thread, he'd yell at people all the time, "get off my lawn!" and things of that sort. Here he is taking a much wider scope in his lawn based fist shaking.

Now me, I think the forum benefits from having more than just one type of member. Yes, some trolls prosper in an open forum like that, but the benefits far outweigh the few JungleZs.

I contribute, but not often. I'm just not that expert. I read a lot and ask questions, more often, but like DEfiddy said, I mostly just come to fsck around, and learn about the Z and it's people.

I think CubanZ said it the best though:
