This is why i hate driving on the freeways

Two separate incidents seriously made me reconsider using the freeway on rush hour traffic...

Incident one:
Couple months ago my bumper got hit by a wooden plank that was thrown into my lane. Gave me a nice dent on the grill and some light scuffs on the clear coat that was easily removed.

Incident two.
Same freeway today on the fast lane... Another piece of debri, possibly from a blown tire was thrown so high up that it flew pass my windshield and hit "somehing" on the driver side. I didnt know where the debri hits or how severe the damage is but you can imagine how pissed i was.

So i finally got to work and immediately get out to check for damage. Luckily.. only the driver side's side mirror got hit and there are no dents or paint chips.ci thought it is gonna be something more serious than that judging from how loud it was. I need to inspect the car better to make sure nothing else got hit.

I was telling myself that all the careful driving and parking to avoid chips/dings would have been wasted cause of this. And i am truly amazed how much **** we have on our freeways :shakes head:

I fully agree with you, these freeways here in SoCal suck! There always seems to be some sort of debris on the road. The other day, I saw plastic milk crates on the 405 southbound lane, by the Howard Hughes Center. I can imagine the carnage that would cause, if cars plowed into those at full speed......

I've had a lot of problems with flying rocks... Just the other day one fell off a truck (I **** you not it was a truck full of rocks....) and hit my DD windshield and cracked it. Just one little crack. It's annoying because I'm not certain it justifies buying a new windshield. This is the second one on that windshield, get pelted with a rock every couple of years. :shakes head:

Yeah, for some reason in the car sounds louder than the damage actually is.

One time I had slowly backed into a curb and heard a loud BAM. Went to check it out and it was only minor scuff below the dummy light.

Glad to hear the damage is minimal.

Had the same thing happen to our 05 beater sentra coming back to nevada on the thruway and a eurotrash import doing some lane splitting it kicked up some truck tire debris took out the right side mirror , molding and 2 window trims.

About $600 in damage if claimed, but it fixed cheaply, it would have been a lot more in the Z.

It really sucks because California has some nice roads for the Z, but with all the trash on the roads , crazy drivers and wheel thieves , that may hit you at a motel and also factor in the dogs, its better to take the beater.

The 91 is pretty bad when it comes to rock chips -_-
Luckly I hardly drive mine on freeway for long periods of time .
On the 5 you run into most random **** on freeway .
For instance once there was a couch just in middle of the freeway .

1 year of all city driving and i got about 7 easily noticeable rock chips , I only drive 5 miles to work

If I drove on the freeway more i might of needed a repaint by now

:icon18: it's so true!
Last week on the 5 Fwy NB around Irvine there was a ladder laying in the middle of the freeway. Luckily I was behind a red truck when suddenly the truck swirled and my reflex was to switch lane (safely).

If I was tailgating it would have been a different outcome.
:shakes head:

I feel your pain. Pennsylvania is no better. I think we have like, the third worst rated road system (by state) in the country.

My route to work requires highway driving, and it's a major truck route, because it's the ONLY highway through the county I live in. The front of my black Z looks like a damn dalmatian. I came out to my car the other morning, and didn't realize that the "pebble" that hit me the previous night had left a giant claw mark next to my one fang.

My favorite was running over a truck tire though. I was following a pickup truck (which is what about 75% of people around here drive) at a safe distance, but couldn't see anything in front of him nonetheless. He just drives right over it, because he can, and BAM, truck tire. Right in in front of me at 70 mph. That was a horrible instant of "this is happening." I ran the thing over, and was SURE when I got to work my front aero lip would be torn off. Miraculously, there was like, no damage. Scary as hell though.

PA never cleans their roads. They're pot holed, cracked, uneven, and covered in crap. At least in Cali you guys have like, four lane highways. Ours were all built in 1789. Ugh. :shakes head:

This time of year is rough in the northeast, no potholes have been filled yet from over the winter and there's lots of excess sand on the road from the snow

most trucks have a large white sticker on the back kindly explaining that they are not liable for debris that exits the truck and strikes your vehicle.

but this all varies state to state, and getting your money even if it IS their fault can be a nightmare.
