Thought about the windshield, but didn't do it - too many rocks hit my windshield (including the chip that's already in it from my first week of ownership).

///PureSwank 03-28-2013 11:38 AM

I went out of town the other day ans saw a white one with 50% front tint and it looked sick! It changes the whole look of the car. I just have to get it. My whole car is got the red/black look either way. It shoupd help out darken my side tints as well by allowing less light to come in.

If you're worried about it messing up the tint, it won't. Tint's are applied on the inside of the windshield. If you're just worried that you have to replace your windshield often then I'm going to just stfu right now because you have bigger issues. =X

As often as rocks hit my windshield (whether I'm ten car lengths behind or three) it's not wise (or legal) to tint the front windshield.

kidkotic2001 03-28-2013 12:11 PM

Any pics of this, I have never seen this front tinting before.

I will post up pictures when I'm done. It is legal but I'm just going blacked out.

Must be nice.

Only a strip at the top is legal here.

kidkotic2001 03-28-2013 12:29 PM

oh wait a minute I know what you are talking about. In Texas there is a line on our windshield which is how far you can tint your front windshield. which is about 4 to 5 inches from the top of the front windshield. I still would like to see the full front windshield tinted.

I love it. It was hard to dd in New Jersey with no front plate and front tint. So it's still on the Z but removed on the STI

///PureSwank 03-28-2013 12:41 PM

Texas is only legal to the AS-1 line or 5 inches in length if no line from factory.

Not when this could cause other problems.
Also, you will be a huge target for the police, most are usually ok on low tint on the side windows but anything on the front they will go for you.

With or without the tints the Z is already a huge target. HIS CARS RED! You will be fine bro just keep a look out. It’s funny to me how people want to be law fighting citizens.

nmjaxx9 03-28-2013 01:53 PM

Yooo Op here is a pic of my Z front windshield 35%, 50% would be lighter but id go for 35%, and since Ive had my Z not one cop has got me for it. :D

I think it will look great on your SR go for it!!

Actually a red car has nothing to do with it, the theory that a red car is a higher target is actually false.
Also, my concern was for others, driving at night with front tint can be very dangerous. Been in cars, not driving, and could barely see much in front of the car that did not have its own light on it (i.e. a car).

NickTurnon 03-28-2013 01:55 PM

I have put 30% on all my windshields except for the 370z.

50% might be a little dark for you. Especially during the nighttime.

Coming from a guy who has 5% all around.

cheshirecat 03-28-2013 02:20 PM

50% here. No, it's not that bad. Yes, I'll be getting it again on every car I ever own. Luckily for me, it's legal. I personally wouldn't go any darker than 50%, especially if you get your sides something like 15% or lower.

The front windshield tint definitely pisses off cops much more than window tint ever did.

Yeah, you can get a medical reason to make it legal. Otherwise this goes state by state, and is usually not legal for full windshield. Basically while you might think you can accept the risk, you're also making a risk decision for the other people around you whom you may also be impacting.

It does look really nice but definitely never, ever utter a single word of anger if you get pulled over for it. You've made the choice. :) You'll probably also have to sign a waiver of responsibility to the installer, depending on how many times he's been harassed by kids who didn't know the laws.

By the by, a quick Google search can reveal a site that lists all the tint laws by state. I'd link it, but being an IT security guy, I'd prefer not to send people off to sites I can't say you should trust or not. :)

I wish insurance companies would think that way. Was always charged extra for having a red car.

Who's your insurance carrier? The color of the vehicle is rarely, if ever, considered when generating an insurance premium presently.

I jumped around to several during my ownership, whenever one would raise my rates (no tickets, etc., likely moving me away from an "introductory rate").

cheshirecat 03-28-2013 02:44 PM

Weird. Well, feel free to get a red car, as major insurers usually don't even put the color on file. Everything is loaded through your vin, which doesn't include the color on modern cars.

Meh, I don't want another red car. It really did seem to attract more attention. That and it seemed people liked to hit it with their doors (or cars) more often. :shakes head:

My dad got pulled over 3 days ago for side window tinting in CA... Yes, it's illegal here, BUT MY CAR HAS TX PLATES!!! LOL

As has been mentioned, it is most certainly not legal in Texas. Even side window tint is severely restricted at 25% max.

Wish I had your cojones, but I don't have the time or the money to bother being hassled by cops any more than I already do :ugh2:

On topic, 50% tint all around looks :yum: Look forward to pics

Cmike2780 03-28-2013 03:59 PM

I was pulled over a few times in my old car for 50% tints on the sides. Not even gonna bother with tints on the Z. I drive a lot, which means more likelyhood of getting busted for tints. It just gets tiring after a while, especially when all that cash could be better spent.

....On a related note, I have cousins in the Philippines who tint their cars stupid dark all around (15%). It's pretty common over there because of the heat. I wish they'd apply some logic here in the US.

DAMMMMMMMNNNNNNN I like this to bad I am in Texas, I am sure if I would do this I would be targeted ever time.

Luciano13 03-29-2013 11:32 AM

Im not sure why anyone would want to tint their windshield??? I like showing off my red leather interior..... The tint looks good, but can you really are good at night if your ripping down the back roads where there is no street lights?

It's no problem just takes getting used to ..... I wouldn't suggest it on a DD but its awesome 90% of the time:happydance:

speedfreek 03-29-2013 11:43 AM

I had it done to my Tacoma. It protects your leather and dash from the UV rays and keeps the interior a few degrees cooler in the summer months. My a/c didnt have to work near as hard to get the temp down after work.

Things get pretty hot in FL. The 50% isn't very difficult at all to see though. You'd think it would be by looking at it from the outside but it's very, very visible.

I would rate the safety risk of a 15% side window higher than a 50% windshield, myself, as I would need to roll down the windows to back out of somewhere during the night. Pretty damn dark.

Zenmaster 03-29-2013 03:54 PM

My first ticket in the Z was the windshield tint
