Texas is only legal to the AS-1 line or 5 inches in length if no line from factory.

Not when this could cause other problems.
Also, you will be a huge target for the police, most are usually ok on low tint on the side windows but anything on the front they will go for you.

With or without the tints the Z is already a huge target. HIS CARS RED! You will be fine bro just keep a look out. It’s funny to me how people want to be law fighting citizens.

Actually a red car has nothing to do with it, the theory that a red car is a higher target is actually false.
Also, my concern was for others, driving at night with front tint can be very dangerous. Been in cars, not driving, and could barely see much in front of the car that did not have its own light on it (i.e. a car).

I have put 30% on all my windshields except for the 370z.

50% might be a little dark for you. Especially during the nighttime.

Coming from a guy who has 5% all around.

cheshirecat 03-28-2013 02:20 PM

50% here. No, it's not that bad. Yes, I'll be getting it again on every car I ever own. Luckily for me, it's legal. I personally wouldn't go any darker than 50%, especially if you get your sides something like 15% or lower.

The front windshield tint definitely pisses off cops much more than window tint ever did.

Yeah, you can get a medical reason to make it legal. Otherwise this goes state by state, and is usually not legal for full windshield. Basically while you might think you can accept the risk, you're also making a risk decision for the other people around you whom you may also be impacting.

It does look really nice but definitely never, ever utter a single word of anger if you get pulled over for it. You've made the choice. :) You'll probably also have to sign a waiver of responsibility to the installer, depending on how many times he's been harassed by kids who didn't know the laws.

By the by, a quick Google search can reveal a site that lists all the tint laws by state. I'd link it, but being an IT security guy, I'd prefer not to send people off to sites I can't say you should trust or not. :)

I wish insurance companies would think that way. Was always charged extra for having a red car.

Who's your insurance carrier? The color of the vehicle is rarely, if ever, considered when generating an insurance premium presently.

I jumped around to several during my ownership, whenever one would raise my rates (no tickets, etc., likely moving me away from an "introductory rate").

Weird. Well, feel free to get a red car, as major insurers usually don't even put the color on file. Everything is loaded through your vin, which doesn't include the color on modern cars.

Meh, I don't want another red car. It really did seem to attract more attention. That and it seemed people liked to hit it with their doors (or cars) more often. :shakes head:
