Most of what I've driven is autos, 1 time per car is reasonable but 1x a week, uncouth.

1. Arrive at destination.
2. With foot on brake STOP the car
3. Put car in park
4. Turn car OFF.
How hard can that be?.

I just got off the phone with my wife to see if she has ever done this and the answer was no and then she said WTF are you asking this for (She DD's the Z)? I won't include the rest of what she said about anyone that may do that. She can be a mean woman when shes wants to be.

This is ridiculous. Unless this is your first car and you're not accustomed to the routine of putting the car in park there's no excuse for this lack of concern when you're driving a car. This is the type of thing that's going to cause an accident when the car gets away from you while you're not in it.

You can't seriously blame the push button. Sure ergonomic specialists should have put some kind of safety feature to keep the car on while in gear (unless the emergency shutdown procedure was activated). But in a regular turn key car you put the car in park BEFORE shutting the car off; your muscle memory shouldn't be affected by the push button until the point where you reach to turn the key and notice it's not there. If what you've been doing all along is try to turn the key to shut the car down, the key won't turn, THEN you realize you're still in gear then you've been bad all along and really shouldn't be on public roads with others.

Once or twice I could understand as a fluke occurence. **** happens. But if **** is happening to you all the time then you may need to reevaluate whether or not you're a danger to yourself and others.

Yeah I thought the first thing you learn from driving a car is put it in park before you turn it off. I can see leaving it in D, but in reverse? :inoutroflpuke:

:iagree:

OP, your either new to the car or your trolling. Unless you drive a MT or a bicycle, you should never left it on the street in driving gears. There is no excuses of doing it weekly basis.

Plus there's the question of... Can this car be shut off in drive or reverse???

Sounds like trolling to me. I think the auto's have safe guards against it.

Correction. Just tried it but it lets off an alarm if you do so... the alarm should keep you from doing anything horrendously stupid like actually leaving the car.

I already postedthat answer lol

It's not a bad habit to just set your e-brake. Manual drivers usually have this habit, and it doesn't really hurt in an auto. (Unless you forget to disengage it, but that's your problem.) Thankfully I already do this in my current car, so not worried about it in the Z, despite the lack of a key to grab out.

Zythaxus 03-27-2013 03:43 PM

Can't believe I jumped in here either, but in the manual i believe it says it will activate the braking safety thing if your ebrake is on and you try to go over 5mph

kenchan 03-27-2013 04:02 PM

wat i tend to forget to do is set the wiper stalk back to off and i start the car, snow on wind sheild just pours inside while the door is open and im reaching in to grab my scraper.

well, that's on my dd...

Zenmaster 03-27-2013 06:25 PM

well, since i'm not a women, I don't drive automatic so I never leave it in drive or reverse

I'm joking

I just realized one thing...well maybe two.
OP, OP OP OP :gtfo2: you either just started driving or...or....or...or...you have nothing better to do. We all now by now, you are the only one in a "social mental status who is not at the top level at all... not even close" who leaves the car engaged in gear and walks away from the vehicle. Good luck with that. I hope the car does not runs away from you.
It reminds me of one of my ex-wifes. She got out of my vehicle while in neutral and the parking brake was not engaged and in a sloped driveway. That's way she is another of my exe's.

I just realized this thread should've been the most appropriate regret thread among all - "Does any automatic Z owners regret walk out their car in Drive or Reverse???":bowrofl::roflpuke2:

I am glad OP didn't open another "Car won't start" thread(because it's in drive gear) to confuse us with the steering lock failure issue.

Some of you "Mr. perfect in life" have jokes. No, i am not a new driver. Yes i drove manual cars before and motorcycles. No, the car doesn't run away by itself bc the engine is off. Yes, Fl is flat mostly so the car doesn't move even left in gear. Yes, it happens mostly on hectic days from office to office.... hope i answered everything.

I understand this is a forum. But hey, if it helps to boost your self esteems or cover your insecurities by being the butt of the joke...glad i can help :icon23:

Well that's the internet for you!

I think what stops most people from doing this is when you apply the brakes to stop the car, it's reflex to put it in park so it doesn't start moving again, not shutting the car off to achieve this and leaving it in D.
Years of driving manual will condition you the other way.
