OP, OP OP OP :gtfo2: you either just started driving or...or....or...or...you have nothing better to do. We all know by know, you are the only one in a "social mental status who is not at the top level at all... not even close" who leaves the car engaged in gear and walks away from the vehicle. Good luck with that. I hope the car does not runs away from you.
It reminds me of one of my ex-wifes. She got out of my vehicle while in neutral and the parking brake was not engaged and in a sloped driveway. That's way she is another of my exe's.

:roflpuke2: IBTL!

I just realized this thread should've been the most appropriate regret thread among all - "Does any automatic Z owners regret walk out their car in Drive or Reverse???":bowrofl::roflpuke2:

I am glad OP didn't open another "Car won't start" thread(because it's in drive gear) to confuse us with the steering lock failure issue.

Some of you "Mr. perfect in life" have jokes. No, i am not a new driver. Yes i drove manual cars before and motorcycles. No, the car doesn't run away by itself bc the engine is off. Yes, Fl is flat mostly so the car doesn't move even left in gear. Yes, it happens mostly on hectic days from office to office.... hope i answered everything.

I understand this is a forum. But hey, if it helps to boost your self esteems or cover your insecurities by being the butt of the joke...glad i can help :icon23:

Well that's the internet for you!

I think what stops most people from doing this is when you apply the brakes to stop the car, it's reflex to put it in park so it doesn't start moving again, not shutting the car off to achieve this and leaving it in D.
Years of driving manual will condition you the other way.

They are funny. Incredibly stupid of course, but funny when they fail.

I remember one of the originals - the Trans Am and the guy handing onto the spoiler. Don't think that failed though.

This is ridiculous. Unless this is your first car and you're not accustomed to the routine of putting the car in park there's no excuse for this lack of concern when you're driving a car. This is the type of thing that's going to cause an accident when the car gets away from you while you're not in it.

You can't seriously blame the push button. Sure ergonomic specialists should have put some kind of safety feature to keep the car on while in gear (unless the emergency shutdown procedure was activated). But in a regular turn key car you put the car in park BEFORE shutting the car off; your muscle memory shouldn't be affected by the push button until the point where you reach to turn the key and notice it's not there. If what you've been doing all along is try to turn the key to shut the car down, the key won't turn, THEN you realize you're still in gear then you've been bad all along and really shouldn't be on public roads with others.

Once or twice I could understand as a fluke occurence. **** happens. But if **** is happening to you all the time then you may need to reevaluate whether or not you're a danger to yourself and others.

Really? Where did the OP blamed the push button for anything, amazing what a little question can do to people....

TheGreatOne 03-29-2013 10:19 AM

I've done this in my wifes X5...only when not paying attention, so I guess it can happen to anyone.

On Thursday, there was a story in the Tx local news where a guy did exactly what this thread is about and his car hit a neighbors home destroying the whole front entrance leaving thousands in damage... Excelleeennnt!!!!

If you forget to put your car in park and/or shut it off, causing damage to anything or anyone? That's like accidentally pulling out a gun and letting off one shot into a crowd. Your license should be revoked.

About 25 years ago I went to a local strip joint with some buddies. Was driving my parent's car. Don't even think I was old enough to drink yet, but ofcourse I had been. At the end of the night I came out and the car was not where I parked it. I thought "Oh Sh*t, someone stole my Dad's car. Explaining this isn't going to go over very well." After a couple minutes of freaking out I noticed the car was about 50 yards down the parking lot in the weeds. I had left it in drive and the parking lot had a pretty good slope to it. No damage... needless to say I was very relieved.

SS_Firehawk 03-31-2013 06:07 PM

My Wife looks at me and just recites "Really" a few times. I do it to her car all the time. I don't put my Z in gear when I park unless its an incline/decline. I do to her car, rentals, idk. Head space and timing error. I hate forgetting to pull my ebrake when I park and she starts rolling. It never starts rolling when I'm still in it of course, after I take a step out. When someone else moves my car, they throw it in first, so when I start it, I release the clutch and the f'n car jumps. Pisses me off, luckily I always start with my foot on the brake.

Are you retarded and can't read between the lines?!
Ok let me spell it out for you, I am very used to just turning off the keys (push start) bc of manual cars and motorcycles! Did you fail grammar and comprehension school?

And for the post that had the accident flying into someone's house.... I seriously doubt my car will do that in any gear with the engine off. And you sir is a retard too for the ludicris comparison

Man... Can't believe this silly thread of making fun of my own habits turned into a complete douchebaggery from some 'perfect Mona Lisa' forum members. Don't worry, we won't judge your insecurities. Let it all out on the Internet big guy!

I have some pretty bad gas atm. We went to a brunch buffet this morning and I must have created a time bomb by mixing coffee, tenderloin, and about a thousand pastries.

Carry on

Still no blaming visible to me, just that he mentioning of having a push button. Anyway, your childish name calling just shows you are too immature to actually drive any vehicle. I assume you are one of those guys tailgating and pulling guns on people who do your wrong in traffic. You should be ashamed or at least embarrassed to call people retarded. Have seen those forums over and over, always the one or other, insecure and living in moms basement, brave to make comments they would never do face to face. Ahhh, the animosity of the internet, what a curse. Enjoy the rest of your pathetic live kiddo :driving:

^I wasn't calling you a troll, I was responding to the guy below. I highlighted YOUR text to show him what he clearly misread. Perhaps YOU missed the "grammar and comprehension school" (I'm rather certain you mean class).

Also, regarding your habits. It may never come down to destroying someone else's house. It's a drastic scenario. But what did you really think was going to happen? A bunch of people are going to tell you it's perfectly normal and it's fine to continue doing it? No, you're putting yourself in a bad situation by not correcting your driving habits and we're making sure you know it's not ok. Just because you think something won't happen doesn't make it not happen. By continuing to "accidently" leave the car in gear on a weekly basis you're allowing the possibility that the car is going to get away from you. It just needs to happen once.

^Now, OP has stated several times that he's not used to the push start/stop and that is what is causing him to leave the car in gear. Yes, you are an idiot for missing it twice now.

I would also call you a retard to your face if we met on the street because everything you're saying is retarded. I don't know how you extrapolated the whole "in mom's basement" stereotype from but I can only assume you're speaking from experience. Clearly you're the kid in mom's basement trolling forums because you're the only one here making ridiculous comments without ever really knowing what you're talking about. Personally I'm only subscribed to this forum and I've met many of the Z drivers in the area, if they made a comment as stupid as you I would be the first to let them know. Today, it's just you.
