so let me get this straight...you bought the car knowing it had defects in the paint and had a chance to walk away from it at that point, but decided to purchase it anyway? i dont know about you, but if i had seen that before purchasing it would have been a warning sign to me to not buy that car and wait for a better one or move on to a different car especially when the dealer refused to fix the run in the paint for you. then again as they say hindsight is 20/20, but hope you find a car that suits you better the next time around. on topic though i still dont regret any of my nissan purchases, all solid cars for me, even the my first car a 2002 altima which i admit had some squeaks and rattles after a while, but im not really one of those people who gives a crap about rattles in a car as long as it gets me to where i want to go reliably and safely lol. |
NEVER, one of the best cars I have bought brand new!
And I had over 50 cars including a 350Z, 300ZX and Turbo II RX-7.... |

I meant well put about the last half-ish. I agree on the oil cooling and the SLU Mainly with this statement: I am less than impressed with Nissan's approach to known issues. So much so, I do not believe I would ever buy another Nissan again. |
I love the car, but I do regret getting it. It is a hell of a car, but its just not me. I liked that it's different than the Camaro and the Mustang, but after 3 short months, I wish I went with a Camaro or a Mustang.....maybe things would be different if I had the 6MT. I might just be regretting the auto....

I agree with that much, but what can you expect from a car that sells 5,500 units a year and was supposed to sell 15,000. Quote:
BMW's limp mode oil issue existed in 07, 08 and half of 09. Nissans issues existed in 09, 10, 11. BMW fuel starve issue is there. No one talks about it. Nissan gets lambasted over it. BMW had to redesign its fuel pump twice based on issues with the new DI system. Not to mention all kinds of sporadic elec trical problems. Thats something, Nissan doesn't have. Yet somehow the writing remains positive for these cars. The status of owning BMW seems to supercedes shoddy reliability and expensive parts for repairs. Not here to judge BMW as car. But showing there is a huge double standard and all this subjective advertising has many of you brain washed. If some of you owned a 335i? It would be a go with the territory of a sports car issue. The Z which outhandles and is more rigid than a 335i, more reliable and much easier to maintain, gets the short end of the stick because of Brainwashing through subjective/suggestive advertising and reviewing. It upsets me that nissan has ben lax at fixing issues. I have gone on a couple rants myself... But in the sub-premium sport car market. All the grass is the same shade of green. All these sub-premiums will suck somewhere... Where the Z is strong. Others will be weak and vice versa. As far as the Z interior being cheap??? hahahahahahaaaaaaa... laughablly bogus statement. Even as a subjective opinion thats delusional. Right now, all these sports cars use a similar grade of materials. Just pick the shape you like best. Got tired of the Z? Fine, get another car. But sometimes it sounds like people start making excuses to themselves to make an unwise decision of extending their car payments for the next hottest thing. When they know the wisest thing is to just pay off their car and wait to buy again... Not all, but some. |
I've actually had a great experience with my dealership, Norris Nissan, although I haven't had to go there very often... Let's see, bought the car there in '10, had my tires mounted on new wheels with TPMS installed in '12, just had my recall work done there this week. They're pretty easy going, but I haven't had the same kind of ugly issue that some of you folks have.
|
Wellllll...
A few things, I'd never OWN a BMW because I can't do German cars (yeah, their reliability is a JOKE) And the Z doesn't sell well because it's overpriced (I don't care about that, lets not turn this into a discussion about value) The biggest (3/5)35 issue was the fuel injector pump thing. 5 of 6 of my close friends who had 35's had their cars lemoned, and the other guys car burned down on the freeway due to a shoddy install job by BMW |

Man after reading a lot of these posts I hope my car doesn't start giving me problems. So far I've had zero issue (besides oil cooling). Granted I only have 15K miles. DEpointfive0 (sick name btw) how many miles do you have on your Z?

32k miles, if I was at 100k, cool, I wouldn't mind my problems as much... |

In 2010, the oil cooler should have been done. In 2011, They should have improved the base and touring stereo In 2012, they could have made the cargo cover standard and the foglight. In 2013, they could have done there cheesy upgrades and it would not have been so cheesy due to progression. 2014, a small power boost would be nice. Little things mean so much when raising prices the way nissan did.. If the oil cooler would have been done? We probably would have sold an extra 3,000 units in 2010. And I believe the 3000 unit increase would have been close to conistent throughout the years. Nissan fvcked up big time in that department.. |

And that is pretty low miles. I would imagine having the same feelings to the Z and Nissan if I saw all the problems you have seen. |

It's my favorite gun, owned 4, one was stolen when our house was broken in... ;-( but it's all good, I've got 3 more, lol! And I DO think my dislike of the Z/Nissan as a whole is justified... I don't strive to bítch and moan on the forum (especially because I REALLY LOVE the forum and all it's members) I just want to see what people would buy if they knew were to do it again, or if they knew what they know now. That is all! Again, for the 50th time or so, I'd do it again the same way JUST because I met some amazing people and I love the helpfulness of people on THIS forum... But I really hate the car every day... I look at my JDM tails and my Stillen 4.5" exhaust and the MBlue and think it's sexxxy, then I get in and PRAY it starts without fault... If corporate/the dealers can fix it properly, awesome, I'll love it again... But at the moment, I hope CA has a flash flood and my car is parked at the bottom of a valley. |
May I add that in spite of some of my comments from 2 posts ago about Nissan not getting enough U.S. support, Nissan also has been too slow to fix Recall type issues. I definitely agree with Dizzy their as well... But there's also too much nitpicking when it comes to the Z. When compared to other cars in it's price range. Performance wise, I still think the Z is very competitive in spite of...
I find flaws in pricing with all the current sports cars, to be honest. The camaro is poorly priced. The mustang is going the same way. The BRZ... I throw up from laughter at those prices. The new bimmers... Thats funnier than the BRZ. Performance is being sold at a higher price than it's worth. But now it's getting harder to sell people sports cars so next gen, I believe we'll see better value for the money. I think the war for more power neglected other parts of the sports car experience. Next gen. I think all sports cars will be more well rounded and priced better in terms of price to features plus performance.. |

And I agree on the forum aspect, way better than the Evo / STi forums, and more of a community feeling than the Porsche forums. So if you could spend your 35K again on a different car, what would it be? (assuming you couldn't put it towards a more expensive car) |
Quote:
And yep, ALL Israeli made! (I wouldn't buy an American made one, not because of quality, it just should ONLY be Israeli made, LOL) If I could spend my original investment 33k after TTL and BS, I'd buy...

I would love to see porsche come out with a lightweight 250hp turbo 4 mid engine car for under $45,000. I would jump on that hardcore. But it would have to be turbo so i can boost it an extra 120hp cheaply... :happydance: |
I regret not toasting my pop tart this morning... Oh, wrong thread. :p

I like my Z. Love to drive it and it's a great looking car. I guess I expect a little more out of a company for a car at that price point, especially on known issues like the bluetooth or the steering lock (personally I couldn't care less about the oil heating issue as I'm not a track guy and if you run into issues on the road, it's because you are driving in a manner you definitely should not be). It's paid off, in full, and I'll keep her for a while till I'm bored with it. Even more importantly, nothing else really appeals to me right now, at least not at this price point. My next car will no doubt cost me double what the Z did as I've now got the performance car bug. |
I think regret is a strong word for the feelings created from the OP's situation. I only regret a few things in my life, and they definitely don't pertain to items I've purchased. The title should be "Who else is pissed, because the Z I bought is a total piece of ****?"
I'd be livid if I was in DE's shoes. But regret? I don't think so. I'd only regret it if I bought it and couldn't afford it. When running right (which mine does), the Z is a great package. It's quick, handles great, and is the sexiest damned thing on four wheels, short of certain cars priced at least twice as high. Bickering about the regret of color choices and whether or not your Z has a top is kind of...lunacy. Just my two cents. |
No way I got a solid red Nismo and had for about 2 months now and I get stares everywhere and asked about my car all the time. I had a 350Z and now I have this beauty and I love it. Hard ride no, loud no, can't see out of it because of the awesome design no, IT'S CALLED A SPORTS CAR no go be sporty goddammit!

I just do know a decent amount have moved into a 5.0 or an SS and I know there are some of us that are more open to other brands and such. That's why I made the thread. Just wanted to get a feel for where we all stand ATM I don't mind closing it since there now have been a few of these "regret" threads and such... |
I understand your frustration. This is my second Nissan, and they've both had their share of quirks. But all cars do. I guarantee you, at this moment, there is a thread somewhere on a Camaro forum detesting it, because someone got jobbed by a dealership.
Off Topic: Those 5.0s are NASTY. A stock one with R-compounds ran the second-fastest time of the day at the autocross event I did yesterday. I'm going to leave room for the inevitable "but the interior is garbage" comment. :icon17: |

I'm ok with quirks... Like all my Lexus's went through a subwoofer, the first sub almost had a recall... I don't have quirks though... I have a car that's worse than a... It's pretty bad... Lol And the Maxima rattles soooooooooooooooo much it drives me crazy, I'm going to have a tow truck take it to the dealershit... Other thing, like the front bumper wasn't even properly installed... C'mon, which blind man installed the damn bumper??? |

I hear ya. My 2002 SE-R had random pieces falling off of it by the time I traded it. That was at over 100k miles, though. This is a rough patch of road, and I hope you can get some satisfaction out of all of this. I don't feel that the thread should be closed, though. Things like this can be a good way for people to diagnose symptoms other than the major issues (SW lock, CSC, and such).

Many folks hold that the break comes with the Hiratsuka move. I feel like like the big break came when they dropped the L series. The 370Z pays great visual homage to the history, but there's very little connection to the Z's of old. I'm unlikely to purchase another modern Z, but I will always be waiting for the right Datsun to pop up....and if Nissan ever goes back to it's roots and gives us a screamer again, I will be first in line, much to the chagrin of my wallet. To answer the question, I don't really regret my Z purchase, but it definitely soured Nissan in my mind. The support I got wasn't as bad as DE's, but it certainly did not meet expectations for reliability, but more importantly for support. I learned a lot through the process about how dealerships that take great care of you through little issues all of a sudden become terrible to work with and can't take the time to call you back, and NNA takes their time to resolve anything. I can only hope for the rest of you guys here to never have to deal with a serious issue on the car. At the end of the day, though, I had a good time with the car. It's a looker and gets a lot of attention (more than I'd like, to be honest), and especially after getting some weight off the front and real tires onboard, it was a blast to drive. I'd never buy one again, but I'd also not go back and change my decision to purchase. I might have kept it a little longer if it had been trouble-free, but who knows. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3.../dragonhot.png |

Nope. And at least the Z has real exhaust tips. I also don't understand how some people can have so many problems with their Z's and others have Zero. So weird? Zero problems with my Z I love it and I drive it hard. The tranny is super smooth and I think that has a lot to do with proper driving and it still puts a smile on my face every time I jump in.

But if we're using that as stupid point to argue... At least the ISF HAS an exhaust note, :roflpuke2: |
