What was your second choice?

For 370Z owners: If you didn't get the Z what would you have bought instead? What one thing pushed you over the line to buy the Z?

I wanted a Cayman in the worst way. I loved the ones I drove and up until I drove the Z, I was saving my pennies to buy one in a couple of years. But I found the Z so visceral and immediate and fun :excited: that I just couldn't resist. Sure the Porsche was a lot more refined, and probably holds its value better yada yada yada.

But I found the Z just plain more fun.

What about you?

StLRedrider 07-17-2009 10:05 PM

For me, it was the Z from the get go.

shadspimp 07-17-2009 10:07 PM

A used E46 M3(was in love with it), or a brand new G37. Most likely would've been the M3.

davidyan 07-17-2009 10:10 PM

I was thinking of getting the new Acura TL. I didn't even know of the 370Z until someone with a brand new one drove past me. Lets just say I'm glad I didn't buy the TL.

GMZ 07-17-2009 10:12 PM

C6 vette or another 350z to forge and boost. Z was much nicer inside and new car reliable so it won out.

fly yellow 07-17-2009 10:15 PM

G37s. I went with the Z because i thought it looked better.

cave vulture 07-17-2009 10:20 PM

Everything you do in this world should make at least a little bit of sense, and the Dodge Viper, while fun to look at just made no sense, so it was the Z.

Holy crap! Never would have considered that one. I'm in awe, sir!

MightyBobo 07-17-2009 10:28 PM

Used C6 Z51 package.

FuszNissan 07-17-2009 10:31 PM

Humm...I don't know why? J/K

frost 07-17-2009 10:33 PM

I wanted to help out and lower emissions so I almost got this one, but it just didn't have enough horsepower.

AK370Z 07-17-2009 10:37 PM

350Z or 135i. (most likely 350)

FuszNissan 07-17-2009 10:41 PM

^^ Looks like a 2 door sedan to me. But you made the right choice

molamann 07-17-2009 10:50 PM

G37
350Z
IS350
335I
135I
Camaro SS

As you can see my selection is quite diverse since I never had a "next car" in mind until my 2000 Z28 took a **** back in Jan 09.

Pushing_Tin 07-17-2009 11:01 PM

New 2008 C6
New Mustang
Challenger
Camaro
Genesis Coupe
135/335

I had an IS350 btw.

Me:

Z (keep truck)
Mustang GT Premium (keep truck)
Toyota Tacoma to replace my truck
Jeep Wrangler, also to replace my truck

I briefly considered the Chevy Cobalt SS. 260HP turbo, good power/weight, and cheap (roughly half the Z...) - also better mileage...and would make a sporty commuter...but Chevy...yeah...

Sashimi 07-18-2009 05:51 AM

Before I bought this I was thinking G37 or E46M3. The thought of S2K, Viper, Camaro SS, 135, and 335 came accross my mind, but I never really wanted them over the G or M3

Island_370 07-18-2009 06:33 AM

Audi S5

E46 was on my list as well. But very rare here...hard to find for sale.

370Zilla 07-18-2009 07:48 AM

M3, S5 - I just loved the Z, and figured I could put the extra 15-20k into it, and have an amazing machine.

355890 07-18-2009 08:13 AM

I was waiting for the VW Scriocco to arrive on the US shores, but got tired of the wait. Fantastic car.

IDZRVIT 07-18-2009 08:27 AM

Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT
Camaro SS

hey32g 07-18-2009 09:47 AM

I haven't bought yet, but my 3 that I'm considering in order are:
1. 370Z
2. Corvette C6
3. Audi TTS
4. Another 335i

Really leaning toward the Z right now.

m4a1mustang 07-18-2009 09:48 AM

Cayman S
C6 Corvette
Mustang GT

Cjanik 07-18-2009 09:53 AM

I was actually considering a used porsche 911, or a nissan versa (dont laugh).

Then someone either on here or another forum was talking about how he got a Versa for the wife (which was my plan), and he hated driving it with a passion because it was so boring and powerless.

Then I though, I'll be that guy in 1 year if I buy a Versa. So I decided to sell my wifes car and buy a 370Z, and I'll give my wife my 08 Tacoma quad cab.

that way we are both happy, she has her 4 doors, I have my truck, and I have my Z!

280z/300zx 07-18-2009 10:15 AM

09 WRX because it was cheaper and yet still fast and fun. The Z won me over simply for all the reasons that make a Z the car it is; that and the fact that I could get a yellow one to match my yellow 77 280z.

:iagree:
I test drove a Mustang, Genesis Coupe, and something else I forget currently, but the Z just had the looks and style I wanted.

ZCarMan 07-18-2009 10:45 AM

I too like Fly Yellow was looking at a G37 but decided to go with the 370Z because I thought it looked better and was sportier.

tru_Asiatik 07-18-2009 10:59 AM

z was the 2nd choice :D

6MT 07-18-2009 11:01 AM

My second choice (and it almost happened) was a GTR.

GT-R here too...didnt want house payment size car payments:icon14:j/k...first it was challenger, then the camaro then when I saw the 370z for the very first time...thats all it took...

CBRich 07-18-2009 11:40 AM

Used Lotus Elise. Just found it a bit too harsh for road use though it is an amazing track vehicle.

Pushing_Tin 07-18-2009 02:17 PM

There is no local Infiniti dealer or I would have considered the G37.

AutoX Z 07-18-2009 04:05 PM

I was really really close to picking up an RX 8 but it was too much like my old car and I decided I needed something new so the Z won.

I like your logic, sir! Sounds like a good marriage. ;)

I owned an RX-8 for about 3 years (bought first model year). Incredible handler but no torque. The most fun thing about the RX-8 was "shifting on the beep" The thing revs so fast that they give you an audible warning that you are approaching redline (at 9,000 rpm). The back seats are actually useable for full-size adults, and the thing handles like a dream on winding, bumpy, narrow Connecticut roads. But the downsides were no torque without winding it out, abysmal gas mileage, difficult starting in winter, poor paint quality, and after three years stuff started to break.

OTOH, you could take it to the track every weekend and drive the crap out of it without worrying about engine overheating... :stirthepot:

The Z outguns the RX-8 in everyday use, but needs some mods before it is happy at the track. I'm certainly not sorry I bought it!

Balzdeep 07-18-2009 04:28 PM

I traded my 07 350z HR for turbo power. Still might have to pick up one of these with the new 7 speed auto. I live in the Ozark mountains and that would be just the ticket.

OnCallZ 07-18-2009 06:35 PM

Almost bought a cayman i actually test drove a cayman s and went home to think it over, I then came home and started typing in google cayman vs .... and google filled in 370z, read a few articles and got a 370 in the morning.

armensti 07-18-2009 09:08 PM

used c5
