My second choice (and it almost happened) was a GTR.

Used Lotus Elise. Just found it a bit too harsh for road use though it is an amazing track vehicle.

There is no local Infiniti dealer or I would have considered the G37.

I was really really close to picking up an RX 8 but it was too much like my old car and I decided I needed something new so the Z won.

Then someone either on here or another forum was talking about how he got a Versa for the wife (which was my plan), and he hated driving it with a passion because it was so boring and powerless.

Then I though, I'll be that guy in 1 year if I buy a Versa. So I decided to sell my wifes car and buy a 370Z, and I'll give my wife my 08 Tacoma quad cab.

that way we are both happy, she has her 4 doors, I have my truck, and I have my Z!

I like your logic, sir! Sounds like a good marriage. ;)

I owned an RX-8 for about 3 years (bought first model year). Incredible handler but no torque. The most fun thing about the RX-8 was "shifting on the beep" The thing revs so fast that they give you an audible warning that you are approaching redline (at 9,000 rpm). The back seats are actually useable for full-size adults, and the thing handles like a dream on winding, bumpy, narrow Connecticut roads. But the downsides were no torque without winding it out, abysmal gas mileage, difficult starting in winter, poor paint quality, and after three years stuff started to break.

OTOH, you could take it to the track every weekend and drive the crap out of it without worrying about engine overheating... :stirthepot:

The Z outguns the RX-8 in everyday use, but needs some mods before it is happy at the track. I'm certainly not sorry I bought it!

I traded my 07 350z HR for turbo power. Still might have to pick up one of these with the new 7 speed auto. I live in the Ozark mountains and that would be just the ticket.

Almost bought a cayman i actually test drove a cayman s and went home to think it over, I then came home and started typing in google cayman vs .... and google filled in 370z, read a few articles and got a 370 in the morning.

used c5
used e46 m3
09 wrx sti

ended up with the z, i still want the sti tho =(

GreenJalapeno 07-18-2009 09:45 PM

my second choice was a 1994 White FD in the best condition ever. The engine was rebuilt and streetported by jrx rotary, and the stock paint isn't discolored because it was a garaged car. sighhh D:

but im still excited for the Z! :D

Took a few looks at an 09 STI. But I was currently driving a WRX and wanted something a bit different. What I wanted was a sports car, not a rally car. Two seats, RWD, solid power...thats it, couldnt be happier.

wolf41779 07-18-2009 11:45 PM

What is surprising here is how many people were considering domestic autos. Not that its a bad thing, just wierd cause normally people stick to one side or the other when it comes down to cars.

KillerBee370 07-19-2009 12:04 AM

Second choice? I guess one without the touring?

matt2112 07-19-2009 12:39 AM

new cayman s OR used 911 carrera

in the end, it was a matter of logic: i decided it was better to have a brand new z with a full warranty than a used 911 or a pay $20k more for essentially the same performance i'd get from the z with a cayman s
