TERRIBLE car buying experience

Bought a 13' Nismo from Sterling Mccall nissan.

My Nismo buying experience has a very long long history.

From get go, locating a car to purchasing was just horrifying experience.
Before I put deposit down, they were so eager to sell and checked on me constantly to see if i was interested in the vehicle.

Everything started going downhill after I put my deposit down.

Salesman that originally contacted me started ignoring all my messages, questions and emails.

They never followed up with me on any of my emails, phone calls, and voice mails. They claimed that they got my email address wrong 3 times,
I even went into the dealership to give them my correct contact information and made sure that they will follow up with the status of my car. I also had my salesman's personal cellphone number that he originally used to contact me.

Anyways part of the deal was for sterling to install a backup camera and homelink mirror when the car arrives and prior to the purchase. I get Vin Number on February 5th, and they assured me that they will order the camera since now VIN number is available.

I check back with salesmen and sales manager on February 22nd. They told me that they haven't ordered the part yet, and that they will order it on that day.
Then I asked, "if you order it today, it won't be here until my car arrives?" Respond that i get is "we'll see, hopefully it will arrive." Not even a slightest apology. Sure enough, when I got my car on 26th, part didn't come in.

Couple days later, i get a call saying, "bring the car to the dealership on saturday 9AM, the part is here for you. We will install it on that day and you can drive it home by noon."

I bring the car back on Saturday morning, and waited until noon. I check with my guy, and he tell me that it will be done by 4PM since service dept is pretty packed.
I stayed past 4, all of my family members starving to death, and still no follow ups during the wait.
Asked the service department about my car, and they told me all the technicians have left at 4, come back on monday.

This is when I flip out and call them out on their unprofessional work practice and their poor communication.
Sterling gave me a loaner rogue to take it home during the weekend and told me they will install a window tinting for free for the inconvenience.

I come back on Monday and pick it up. I inspect the car and drive it home. but during the commute back home, I notice that the rearview mirror is loose and shaky. I call them back and they told me I must be going crazy and being far too OCD. But, if you really want us to check it out, bring it back. I told them I will bring it back on Tuesday March 12, since my schedule is pretty darn packed for the whole week.

Later on the week, Driver side tint started peeling. I haven't rolled down the windows for 5 full days.

I also realize that the panel under the steering wheel is misaligned and doesn't fit flush.. I suspect that they didn't install the panels back in correctly after stripping them off for mirror install.

http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/l...pscdec2950.jpg
I text the salesman back and was quite upset about the fact that they keep shatting on my brand new car, and he replied, "you're acting like a child now. All you have to do is bring back the car and why must you blame me?"

I was lost for words. I expected at least an apology, but rather treated me like a spoiled child. I insisted that I will report this entire situation to the general manager and nissan headquarters, and thats when he decided to stop replying to my text.

I am really sick and tired of dealing with their bullcrap and I just cannot afford to waste any more of my energy and time on their service..

Is it possible to take it to another dealership to fix these problems under warranty?
I have much closer dealership located around where I live, and would like to fix my car right rather than to make Sterling work on it and receive more headaches...

I apologize for the long write-ups, but any inputs will be appreciated

FairladyZ 03-10-2013 11:53 PM

Go to another dealer you have warranty

They apparently don't give a **** with what they are doing

street2soul 03-11-2013 12:03 AM

I would love to go to another dealership. I really hope they don't push me back out to sterling to get it fixed, because these were done by sterling.

mick 03-11-2013 12:19 AM

that kinda ruining the fun in getting a new car.
when I bought my 2010 370z nismo, one of the panels was loose too. they removed it to install the alarm and damaged it. I made an appointment to get it fixed. I got there and they told me they would have to order a new panel to replace that one. The second trip to the dealer, they fixed it.

isayimandrew 03-11-2013 12:20 AM

man thats just sad... i hate people like that. Good luck getting everything fixed

FairladyZ 03-11-2013 12:31 AM

you know i had a bad experience with my dealer too.

I was nit picking at little things, when they would return the car to me.

The whole time they apologized.

They even damaged my anniversary wheel and replaced the whole thing and gave me a whole new one. Those things aren't cheap, but to keep me happy they did it.

That is what you call a dealer.

Drex 03-11-2013 12:33 AM

take it to another dealership, im sure they would like to earn your business for other work on the car

mick 03-11-2013 12:36 AM

when nissan sent you the survey, give that dealer all zeros and explain why they deserve those scores :)

Apoc370z 03-11-2013 06:17 AM

Is it just me or most of the bad repped dealerships are located in Texas?

Jasonle 03-11-2013 06:29 AM

sorry for your bad experience! Like everyone says.. take it to another dealership. Far as the window tinting...I had the same problem where it peeled in that corner but I just brought it back to the guy that did it and he fixed it. hopefully you can get it all fixed at a different dealership

LMAO!!!

Hey, we have A LOT of shítty ones, but some amazing ones too!!!
And Simota's experience, that was a fluke, I feel bad for him and now have a slight hatred for Baker Tuning, but the service I got from Baker South/Baker North (AKA Baker Tuning) was fücking amazing
If I moved back to TX, I'd still take my car there no questions asked or question about service in my mind, LOL!!!

danegrey 03-11-2013 07:42 AM

Sorry to hear about your experience, but I had a similar one with Jeff Schmitt Nissan in Dayton OH, my mistake, I should have walked away, and service afterward was, similar to yours.

FriedRicr 03-11-2013 08:12 AM

i hate people like this, scums seriously! i would've just walked away and took my business elsewhere...

PDiddy 03-11-2013 08:39 AM

Bankson Nissan off 635 is bad too, sales and service department!

TheGreatOne 03-11-2013 08:48 AM

Thats a shame man, sorry to hear they ruined that "new car" buying experience for you. Seems like that dealership just cares about the sale...

I changed dealerships only because the one I found my Z at was far, the place closer to me is amazing. They love it when I show up and their techs love my car, they even added me on Facebook lol.

They have missed a deadline once or twice but were very apologetic...find a dealer who cares!

Hope you get to enjoy your Nismo soon

Moral: Sterling Nissan in Texas should be avoided due to very poor service, communication, etc., etc..

Someone had to say it

UNKNOWN_370 03-11-2013 09:03 AM

I've seen the way that dealer advertises in Cars.com and autotrader. Some dealers, I just get that gut feeling that tells me... STAY AWAY!!! They are one of them.

Happen to me when they installed my illuminated kick plates after taking delivery during the PDI process. They took about 2 weeks to come in, just 1 was misaligned, but the same guy who installed mine fixed it, admitted that was his first time installing illuminated kick plates. No problems, I wasn't mad let him know it was cool it just barely didn't snap into place on one corner fitting, probably unsnapped after he thought it was secure enough. The tech fixed it perfectly with the new panels, went ahead and replaced them both. The service manager made sure the technician who made the mistake fixed it. To the OP, go to Baker Jackson Nissan North, they will take care of you! :tiphat:

Ubetit 03-11-2013 09:47 AM

Had a great experience with the salesman at Nissan North in Columbus. I did have an issue with the service department initially but they've gone out of their way to make it right since.

kenchan 03-11-2013 10:10 AM

key word: DIY

some things are just better done by youself vs the only pair of pliers your dealer has.

LiquidCrewZ 03-11-2013 10:47 AM

Screw them and their crappy customer service, made promises they can't keep. All about making the sale and not giving a crap after. There loss and news like that travels fast if they keep treating their customers like that. Go somewhere else or keep talking to everyone higher up until the issues are resolved.

You mean, THE WORST... (Btw, OP is in Houston, not Dallas)

kenchan 03-11-2013 11:21 AM

guess this isnt a DIY crowd...

UNKNOWN_370 03-11-2013 11:24 AM

If you're in Dallas Fort Worth. I'd consider Courtesy Nissan and Don Davis Nissan when having warranty based issues. I haven't dealt personally but I heard good things about Nissan of Fort Worth and Nissan of McKinney. They have high customer satisfaction ratings.

Generally speaking, DFW Nissan dealerships suck. Texas nissan dealerships suck for the most part. If you're buying a Nissan in Tx, Ok, LA, NM, AR,TN. Do your research, cuz 90% of these azzholes are rip-offs. It seems the dealers that stand buy their products the most in the area are Mazda, Subaru, VW, Infinti(not nissan) and Ford. From my observations, people get almost no hassle from warranty service from these companies in Tx.

Amj2020 03-11-2013 02:41 PM

I was sorry to hear this story, its pathetic how horrible some business are run. I would absolutely call Nissan Corporate and inform them of this experience along with a call to the better business bureau and negative posts on every review forum around, google etc..I had a similar experience wound up at a great dealership recommended by Nissan and was satisfied but not until a year after my purchase. Good luck man you're gonna need it!

street2soul 03-11-2013 02:47 PM

Thank you guys tremendously for your inputs. It really means alot and helps me ease out a little bit. I do feel helpless when I go through their service and find nowhere else to turn, except for this forum and your supports

nizmoJ 03-11-2013 02:54 PM

Same thing with Clear Lake Nissan In League City Tx. Had to go through some crap with my wheel already having curb rash on my wheel on a brand new nismo. They attempted to fix it and they made it worse. They eventually replaced it a few weeks later.

Update:

Sterling guy texted me this morning and told me to bring it sometime between Tuesday and Thursday, but wasn't too clear when to exactly bring it in.

I called Champion in Katy, now Autonations Nissan, they told me to bring it in today so I drove it there today noon after getting clearbra installed from Invisishield.

Guess what! They fixed it right, and now everything looks and feels good. They finished within 2-3 hours. They told me some bolts were loose inside the mirror ball swivel housing, and the panel under the steering wheel was not aligned properly before being forced shut.

Sterling would've given me another arbitrary wait time and did another halfdonkeyassed job.

Chris and Morris at Autonation helped me out and I couldn't have thank them enough.
Everything was covered under warranty; will definately go get service done from them again.

Thanks everyone for the support and input, Glad I went to different dealers and finally got it right. and will NEVER go do business with Sterling again.

JARblue 03-11-2013 06:45 PM

I just love happy endings :yum:

Had the finance manager basically try and scam me out of an extra 1000$ down at the last minute. I almost knocked him out made me feel like a freaking lowlife.

faya 03-11-2013 08:11 PM

I had almost the same experience but not with Nissan. This was when I had my Si. It was a disappointing experience that should have been an exciting one. I gotta admit not so experienced then. I traded the car in for a nismo after 4 months just to erase the bad memory. All Im saying is, there are few, if not most, that does not give a Sh!t on you. All they want is your f@ck!n money.. Sad to say..

Im sorry to hear about your experience. I really hate car salesman who suddenly experience a sudden Alzheimer's Disease after buying the car.
Report this incident to Nissan America.

mhcoss 03-11-2013 09:43 PM

Post this story on the wall of nissan usa on facebook. Also call nissan USA to report this dealership. This story makes me angry and i'm sure nissan would not be happy to hear about the terrible quality of service from this dealership. I find it unbelievable a brand new car could have interior panels not mounted correctly like that from the dealership! Do people take no pride in their work? unbelievable.

That's one way

OR

if you want, you can send an email to one of the Nissan regional contacts. See what they say. YOu have nothing to lose.

Steve Parrett
Manager, Southeast & South Central Communications
Office: 615-725-1448
E-mail: steve.parrett@nissan-usa.com

or the VP

David P. Reuter

Vice President, Corporate Communications
Office: 615-725-5025
E-mail: david.reuter@nissan-usa.com

PS: considering how "sh*tty" your dealer is, they probably left these in your car by mistake still.

No, but check your suspension for the transport spacers on the springs that are used during shipping - dealers are notorious for not removing them prior to delivery. AK provided a link above :tiphat:
