Not really dumb or anything but I was at a mitsubishi dealer and my dad made the threat we are going to look at the civic, so the dealer manager made some bs lie about how his friend got into a accident in the civic and was bleeding pretty bad from his legs and that would never happen in the lancer. And then later my dad said something about 'dealers always have enough money to play around with the price' and the manager got pretty upset and made my dad apologize, anyways we did walk out with the mitsubishi.

Every Petrolhead's Nightmare Realised: Watch A Mechanic Mistreat A Customer's Mustang

While at a Mitsubishi dealership while back I overheard a salesman tell a customer that an Evo has the same engine as a Skyline R34 GT-R :bowrofl:. I got up and left.

Rolled into my local dealership to buy a supply of oil plug gaskets for my G and Z. Guy in a tie walks out and says "ready to trade your Z in?" Yah.

mishuko 08-08-2014 07:05 AM

Nissan dealer looking at another 370: oh well I am taking it to the auction Wednesday and think I can get atleast the list price. (it sat on the lot for another month and they dropped the price by about 1500).

Bmw service department: we don't have anyone who can run a diagnostic in on Saturdays.
Me: you what? You know it's just literally printing a receipt and confirming the codes on Google right?

Service : we don't have a qualified individual on site

:shakes head:

Condition: Left side of vehicle is one INCH lower than the Right side.

Salesman: Oh, that's to compensate for the crown in the road. So your car rides level.
<-- Ignores @55hole and walks to service.
Dealer Service: Oh that's within spec.

:shakes head:

GraphiteZ 08-08-2014 09:11 AM

This happened when I was shopping for my Z 5 year ago in a Nissan dealer.

Me: I would like to test drive a Z.

Sales person: Are you going to buy one?

Me: (Being honest because I was also considering a S2000) Not sure. That's why I would to test drive one and see how good it is.

Sales person: We don't allow people to test drive the Z unless they are buying it.

I caught the service department taking my Z out. They were "diagnosing" my car as they were hauling *** to Burger King to pick up lunch in my car. I was totally thrilled they needed to rip on my car when it had a broken engine mount.

I'm never going back there.

My brother, a buddy who owns a performance shop, or myself are the only people that touch the car now.

I had just installed the Hawk brake pads on my car and was at the dealer for an oil change.
Technician says to me, "You know that aftermarket parts aren't manufactured to Nissan standards right?"

I basically ignored him, but felt like I should have said, "Yeah. I know that. They are better because the Nissan pads are Sh**".

It's a thing, things that are put together can be taken apart. Changing parts is not rocket science.
However designing engines, well that's another matter.

I got one i would love to add to this thread. I was shopping around for a 370z a couple of years ago to trade for my G35. I spent the whole afternoon going dealer to dealer looking for what I wanted. I finally found a black nismo in Sylacauga, AL. We talked about the car and finances for a little bit and I was about to take it for a test drive. As I'm standing there waiting for them to find the keys, one of the employees is standing there telling me about some of his old sports cars and starts to talk about the Z. He tells me that the Z had adjustable sport sususpension that adjust with the push of a button (the SRM button). I was know fool but I wanted to play along. I said "oh really? what exactly does it do?" He goes on to tell me that when you turn it on and off, it tightens/loosens the springs. After I hear enough stupidity from this guy I finally had to ruin it for him that the little "s-mode" button has nothing to do with suspension haha his face got real red when I told him to ride with me and showed him what it really did. Just goes to show that some salesmen haven't the slightest clue about the vehicles on their lot haha

Zipper 104 12-06-2015 08:47 PM

Here's one of many

When I was half looking to find a Z I was with a friend of mine who was going to replace her '99 Maxima with either a new one or an Altima with the 6.
As we walked onto the lot a salesperson came up, flipped her info pad open and asked for my phone number and name before we even got past hello.
My friend was the one we were there shopping for, not me, but I figured I WAS looking so I thought no harm in that. I explained that I was interested in a 370 if she could find me the right one. I stipulated that it had to be a coupe, A7 and not black. A couple of weekends later we were back again and the dealer had a 2015 MB M6 vert being prepped in the wash bay. Not two days later I get a call, you guessed it, she had a new black convertible I might be interested in.
WTF? Why would you even waste your breath, and my time. I didn't even return the call, but you can guess how that would've gone.
My friend had originally bought her Maxima from that dealership in 2000 and wanted to buy from them again since she'd had every service done there and had relationship with them. They had such limited inventory and screwed around so much she bought elsewhere. I also bought my Z elsewhere (that's another story) and also bought a new Murano for my kid, also elsewhere.
Three sales lost due to the utter incompetence of two salespersons.

Soo glad this is a thread! When I had my csc fixed under warranty the dealer moved my shifter block off plate so it slid past 5th/6th making it an effort to find those gears. I told the tech and he said " its a short ratio gear box, thats just how it is" .... I really wish I was lying

Oh also asked the dealer to change my tranny fluid to redline which I supplied while in for the csc. they told me it would make my synchros stick. I was waiting for them to say motul 600 was bad clutch fluid next

Not a nissan dealer but I was looking at a roush in a ford showroom when I dropped my work truck off. I was curious and looking at the stock rear tire size on a stage 2 and a salesman goes "thats just a body kit you know". Literally made me angry lol

mishuko 12-07-2015 09:07 AM

waiting for the parts department to get me my rotors i hear this from the service rep

'welcome to honda, how can i help you?'

i looked at her thinking you realize we're in a nissan dealership right?

she does it again right as i leave. she probably lost her job.

oh and they messed up my damn order and gave me 2 sets of rears. idiots... atleast they exchanged it for the fronts without too much hassle.

oh and when i was car shopping the sales rep kept trying to convince me the red was super rare so it merits a premium on the sale price.

they car sat on the lot for a long time... they even called me a few months later after i got my current Z

This may be the funniest one because it's the simplest. Knowing where you work is the most basic of information. Not sure? Read the sign out front!

On the other hand, old habits are hard to break especially if that girl was working at a honda dealer for several years

Magic Bus 12-07-2015 09:52 PM

Not Nissan dealer but a Scion one awhile back. I parked right in front of the entrance to their showroom in my Z, as I had to visit a client who worked in their back office.

A sales guy immediately approaches me and asks if I'm planning on trading my Z in for the new FRS. I reply "no thanks, I'm here to see Steve". He then says, "you know that you can install a turbocharger on the FRS and it will be faster than your Z". A little put off by his comment, I look him straight in the eye and reply, "and you know that I could install a turbocharger on the Z and then it will be faster than your FRS with a turbo". He hesitates for a second and then replies, I see if Steve's available.

Me: "What happened to the GT-R that used to be in the showroom?"
Salesman, pointing into the customer lot at my 370 nismo: "That's it out there."
Me, pointing my key fob and making the lights flash: "No, it isn't."

we highly recommend Nissan esther oil. mobil 1 fully synthetic is not as good for the 370Z engine - Houston Nissan Dealer

birdman71 12-08-2015 02:08 PM

The first time I ever went to a Nissan Dealership and after doing my research and stuff I was taking a look under the hood and I was testing his knowledge too... sadly he failed.

I asked him if this 370z was turbo'd and he said yeah look right here and he points out the silver connectors to the OEM Intake MAF that goes to the ported intake manifolds. lol

I had a reallllllly good laugh about that one. I decided to test drive the car 5 times before I left the dealership for fun.

I hate to quote myself/cross-post, but I posted this in the "What did you do ... today" thread in March. I feel it deserves a spot itt--probably should have put it here originally.

I tell the service tech I want an oil change as it has been six months since they had done it and specified what oil I wanted. He writes the order ticket and I head to the suckers' lounge. After a couple of minutes he comes and finds me and this conversation takes place:

ST: You've had your oil changed before, haven't you?
Me: Yes. Y'all changed it exactly 6 months ago. You should have a record of it.
ST: What model is it? You were probably thinking every 3750 miles.
Me: It's a '14. But it's been six months.
ST: A '14? You only need to change the oil every 5000 miles.
Me: The manual says it needs to be changed every 6 months or 5000 miles so as not to void the warranty.
ST: [using pencil & paper] But it has only been 2400 miles since your last oil change.
Me: I haven't driven it much, but it has been six months.
ST: We'll change it for you this time, but next time remember that it is every 5000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.
Me: You mean like if six months comes before 5000 miles?
ST: Yep. [nods with satisfaction and exits stage right]

I felt like Bud Abbot and wondered if he ever felt like putting a gun barrel in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

I can't wait until my next visit!
