Last few fuel dots?!?
I remember reading this before but when I get to 3 dots remaining they seem to disappear And the range goes from like 40 to 20 to--- within like 5 miles.. Feels like I'm getting gypped
|
I also feel like the dots are not linear in relation to the gas tank. It takes like 100 miles to get rid of the first dot then the rest are just there to look pretty because they drop pretty quickly.
|
The dots are determined by a floating sensor in the gas tank. If you look at the shape of the gas tank, it is quite obvious why the dots disappear in the manner they do :ugh2:
I regularly take mine down to a single dot with -- Mileage Remaining reading on the display. I pay attention to my driving habits and my mileage per tank to know exactly how much gas I have left. |
On other nissan's I have I refer to the fuel gauge as an empty gauge. Reads full for like 150 miles then drops down quickly. Same with the 370z
|
Just play it safe and fill up when you fall below half. One less thing to worry about with this car.
|
|
On my most recent cross country trip, i let it drop down to the last dot twice and each time i filled up it was over 18 gallons if this helps. I averaged 75mph the whole trip.
|
I think we only have a 19 gallon tank..

... SOB... Car read 3 dots, 43 miles left, took a dump...
No right hand turns either, lol Lets see if it's the gas gauge's shíttiness or my fuel pump |
Just fill up the darn tank! You bought a sports car and it's thirsty all the time.

Can't quite understand why you guys let your fuel get so low. The fuel also assist the fuel pump in keeping it cool and does not strain itself.

We live our lives one 1/4 tank at a time, buddy! |

From what little I've read about modern fuel pumps, as long as you're pumping liquid, you're OK. When it gets to the point where you are not pumping, the car shuts down anyway. ;) Unless you habitually run out of fuel, it shouldn't be a problem. But I'm no expert. YMMV. |
Not a Hugh deal. Personal preference. I wouldn't run my oil low either.
|
Side note, but since I purchased used I don't know the answer. Anyone know what the sticker stated annual fuel costs would be?

That's what I was thinking, glad to hear someone else say it. I'll do a little more research on my own when I have some time. Only run out of gas one time over 10 years ago, and that's all it took... and, of course, it wasn't in the Z. Quote:

Instead of dots, call them balls. Then try to explain to your significant other why you need to stop for gas. "Uh, I have 3 balls"

God that scared the shít out of me because I put the hazards on but people are known for FLYING up that hill, and I just clenched and hit the brake over and over praying they'd know I was broken down |

But I think I am having fuel pump, or injector or spark plug problems anyways (you can check my other thread) we'll see what the dealershit says tomorrow |
Wow guys I had 2 dots suddenly reappear this morning and all of a sudden my range went from ---- to 28 miles. This car is a trip! And I can afford gas I just like to see what I can get out of a full tank , I'm getting 200 miles out of a full tank... Like barely even 13mpg. Of course all city driving but day ummm I didn't expect this.

I generally get around 19 mpg in the city which gives me over 350 miles per tank. |
