actually you don't even have to. when you pop open the gas door, there's a note that clearly says PREMIUM only.

If you're on a budget, don't drive your car or sell it for something you can afford that takes regular gas.

To play devils advocate, the Nissan Altima with a KA24DE runs on 89 octane, the Nissan 240sx with the same KA24DE recommends premium only. I always ran my S14 on 89 and it never had a problem.

This.

I don't understand the point of running your car on vapors unless you're on a desolate stretch of highway with nowhere to stop. If you can't afford to gas up until next payday maybe you should've bought something a bit more economical to putter around in.

Does it matter what grade of gas I put in? I usally put Plus or Premium but sometimes when I'm on a budget I have to put in regular.... My fuel pump went out when my car only had 30,000 miles on it, it was horrible and I had to get it fixed for a pretty price... I wonder if what kind of gas had something to do with it....

Yes. Due to the Z's high combustion you can't use anything below 91. You are at risk of pre-combustion in your cylinder if you use 87. You need more octane in your fuel to avoid this. Defiantly never ever put 87 or 89 in it.

Not the case here. Different engine, different tuning. It would almost be better if he was using regular only. When you run premium, the ecu advances timing up to the knock threshold. When you switch to regular, it knocks until the ecu pulls that timing back. If he ran regular only, it wouldn't keep going through the advance, knock, retard cycle going back and forth between octane. That's not a recommendation to use regular, just that what he's doing is the worst of both worlds.

Just use the right damn gas, people. If the $3 difference per tank is the deal breaker, sell the car or buy $3 less of premium.

No joke! I mean its $3!!! WTF That is almost the price of a soft drink inside the gas station. Just ride your bicycle and give up now.

I am cheap as hell and I still use the highest octane I can find lol

The inside of the lid says PREMIUM FUEL only hahaha!

Back to those three dots....those bastards are are always messing around..3..2..1...I go from 38 miles left to -- in a matter of 5 minutes driving normal. Bastards.

I know this has been pointed out - but each dot is supposed to represent 1 gallon of fuel.

In my neck of the woods gas prices are regulated  Price fixing describes this practice better.;) Anyway, local news media predict if the price will increase/decrease every week on the day before the price is fixed. It's funny as hell to watch the lineups at the pumps when gas is predicted to jump say 2 cents a liter. Maybe a $1 savings that you just burnt off idling in the lineup. Budgeting gas for a sports car? Priceless.

I ran out once with 2 dots left, and had to have my friend who happened to be on my road pick me up and we grabbed a gas can. Don't trust the dots anymore lol.

If I drop <1/4 on the freeway, I start sweating. In town, I just go fill up.
