How many people don't carry a spare tire?

Just curious as to how many of you use run flat tires and don't carry a spare anymore? Do you feel safe using run flats? As in your rims won't be ruined by using them in their intended way?

isayimandrew 01-29-2013 06:07 PM

are you planning on doing something that takes up the spare tire area? run flats wont ruin your rims cause its designed to hold up when its flat. just gotta pay attention to your tpms sensors cause prolonged driving would make it bad. ride quality is a little rougher too since the rubber is harder but not by that much.

MJB 01-29-2013 06:07 PM

I don't carry the spare or use run flats. Since my Z is a weekend warrior, I usually never venture to far from home. If I plan on traveling far, I'll throw the spare back in.

Oh, and run craps are usually pretty heavy compared to a standard tire.

Ziggyman 01-29-2013 06:26 PM

avoid RFT

Just my 2 cents

Low profile run flats can be like concrete. Cost more, and it's hard to find a tire shop to put them on/off without scratching your wheels. Avoid them if you can would be my advice. I'm actually excited to have a spare for the first time in 4 cars.

forza370z 01-29-2013 06:27 PM

I use AAA instead.

Daveski38 01-29-2013 06:33 PM

I purchased a spare just because I didn't want to wait for road side assistance

grant 01-29-2013 06:51 PM

I figure the spare tire offsets the weight of the spare tire I carry around my belt, and helps keep the car balanced

NitrousZ34 01-29-2013 06:57 PM

Reminds me. I still have to take mine out. Free weight lose ftw

TheGreatOne 01-29-2013 08:18 PM

Hmm, pretty sure I have a spare under the Bose sub

Which reminds me I should take them both out next time I go tracking

LMAO, I was thinking to myself, wait, I don't know this guy... (My initials are "AAA") but yeah, I'm the best,

OMGWTFBBQ 01-29-2013 08:43 PM

No spare. No run flats. No AAA. :ugh2:

SoCalBoy 01-29-2013 08:47 PM

no spare...no flats....roadside assistance

JungleZ 01-29-2013 10:21 PM

Except for track days, I carry a spare.

blueranger 01-29-2013 11:10 PM

My roadster didn't come with a spare just a fixaflat kit in the trunk :driving:

11Thumper 01-30-2013 01:52 AM

Too heavy to carry...

I leave it in the car.

DarkJak 01-30-2013 02:06 AM

I still have mine on, but I plan to take it out this summer when I relocate my battery to the rear. I'm concerned over weight distribution if I don't relocate my battery.
With TPMS and AAA, I really don't need one, and it's a huge chunk of weight.

CDepp 01-30-2013 07:18 AM

I'm going to try to get spares put on all around and put one of the rear 19x10.5 wheels in the trunk.

/gotta be different

edub370 01-30-2013 09:18 AM

except all you are doing by taking out the spare is further increasing the front bias of weight distribution on your cars which are already twitchy on mid corner bumps with stock supsension. so taking wiehgt out of the rear will only further exagerate this issue

SPOHN 01-30-2013 12:17 PM

I have Triple A

Jbwrecked 01-30-2013 12:35 PM

No spare, idk if i have AAA or not either. Took it out to fit all 4 sport wheels and haven't bothered to put it back on. For those wondering, it IS possible to fit 4 wheels in a Z  Just gotta remove the spare and the left side tools (scissor jack, etc.)

Sorry I like to whore out my Z :yum:

b1adesofcha0s 01-30-2013 12:44 PM

Yeah I keep my spare in the car and have AAA too because my dad has an acct with them. Run flats don't always help as much as a spare tire. Last year I was with my cousin and we got stuck on the side of the highway because he had a flat. Only problem was that the threads of his tire where coming apart so even driving on the run flat wasn't a safe option. If he had a spare we could have swapped it out real quick, but ended up having to wait hours for his brother to bring us another wheel (luckily he has 2 sets of wheels) we could put on. Also, it was a good thing this was coming home from my college graduation and not on the way there. :icon17:

kenchan 01-30-2013 01:17 PM

my cars have spares. i too dont like to wait for people or truck. and even if a flatbed arrived, i dont trust them not scratching my car or wheels.

that little 30lbs or watever is not going to make much of a difference in street driving. if im tracking/autox the car, will remove it on the site at the event. :)

:iagree:

Why wait for hours when you can do it yourself in like 20-30 mins.

yep. i have a dedicated breaker bar in each car with socket(s). it's very quick.

Jbwrecked 01-30-2013 01:49 PM

^damn straight same here. Along with a torque wrench as well

bfowlzr33 01-30-2013 01:53 PM

Personally I'd rather have the spare just incase instead of waiting and paying a bill or two for towing lol:happydance:

+1 to you bro I never thought we could fit four sport wheels in the car!! I was cracking up when I saw this

Wantme1 01-31-2013 05:21 PM

Thanks for the replies. I wanted to make this a poll but couldn't do it. I was considering taking mine out for room on weekend trips but I feel better having it with me. I'm thinking of adding AAA if its not too expensive. It's just nice to have the extra piece of mind in case you really need some help.

chknhawk 01-31-2013 05:30 PM

No spare for me except long trips

90 ST 02-01-2013 04:55 PM

Weight, and we don't care

I'd put the spare back in if I was going out of town, anywhere within 50-100 miles... Meh... AAA, or car insurance towing, or Nissan towing

Nailzs 02-01-2013 06:12 PM

I carry a spare because my Z needs a place for the Bose subwoofer to lay.

TerribleONE 02-01-2013 06:13 PM

No spare for my truck.. and I plan on taking the one out of the Z as soon as I get it back. what is AAA for?
