Here you go: Obey all posted speed limits and you will not need a radar detector. onzedge™ has written You are welcome. |
That said, I use an Escort 9500ix with great success.
|
I'm thinking of purchasing the passport max, I get a great discount on them.
|
Gave them up years ago. Too many scenarios where they are useless. Save your money.
|
Just know that it won't really help if the cops are using laser detectors. The "laser" travels tooo fast. The second the radar detector picks it up, you're more than likely getting pulled over.
I believe escort sells a laser jammer/detector but that cost over 1k and requires installation and removal of bumper plus interior panels. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachme...1&d=1379424513 |

I actually gave my radar detector to another forum member because I have no need for one. If I am in the city, I don't speed because people. On the express way if I am just using a RD, I'd be popped with a ticket very fast. If you go this route please see all applicable laws for your state. |

Seen a guy etch the display off the escort jammer into his rear view mirror. it was really cool seeing a blue led ghost effect in the mirror when ka k pop or laser signal showed up. Mounted the power button underneath the steering column. Overall it was a great installation and you couldn't tell it was every installed. |

ha! pretty much what the other guy has.
same page bruh |
I have the 9500ix in my work truck and the Max in the Z. I speed just about all the time and they have saved me numerous times. The above comments on Laser and Lidar are correct. Your car has already been pegged about 10 times before the detector will detect, and that's only if they raise the gun high enough to be picked up.
Sent while driving! |
Had the V1 since I got my first car and the Z is my third car so I will stand by it all day long... However, that being said. I have been pulled over twice or 3 times since I got it ONLY because of lasers, because they are honestly impossible to avoid unless you got lucky and picked up scatter from ahead.

V1 !

What's new? The "Threat Picture" is looking pretty hot! You can connect it to your phone so you can use your phone as the remote. In Virginia detectors are illegal so a remote (turns off the obvious lights and gauges on the detector itself) is a must in my opinion. I have the old school one that world work wonderfully if this car had a 12V adapter anywhere near the driver Looks like the remote will have to be velco'd to where I can easily reach it :shakes head: |
im glad to see that the V1 is still #1 on the poll list.

Cruise control and it is free. Just set it 5mph over and no worries. IF you act silly long enough, you will get caught. It is not like it was back in the 80's and 90's. Cops are everywhere. Back in the day I could do just about whatever I wanted on the back roads. Not anymore. Small towns are terrible and need the money. I refuse to give it to them. Learned my lesson a long time ago. I had a stack of tickets...LOL

daylight + open highway + clear view = high speed run
|
I generally don't drive too much over PSL so I don't have to worry too much about cops, but since the Z looks fast sitting still, I've got an Escort Redline just in case/for those times I need to get from A to B a little quicker. Earlier this week I got my best "save" (was only doing about 5 over, on a rural parkway, behind another car). 1.3 miles away, over a hill, sat two state troopers, one with his rear antenna on; Ka 34.4. I crested the hill at a perfectly legal 55 :tiphat:

5 year old topic bump, nice.
I have the Escort Passport Max and I love it. |

Old thread...
Old thread and time has marched on since the original post; new detectors, new options and opinions.
I always figured the V1 was the only one to get. You just can't beat the V1 with its 'bogey counter', the arrows are secondary but helpful, but the V1 falses a ton apparently. They have their own way of getting 'around' that now and still say the V1s bogey counter is unmatched. OTOH, I want to remain open minded so I'm also looking at the Escort Max and the Escort Redline. Using either of these two let me mount it real cleanly under the RV mirror wired into the Homelink power connector. Done. To mount and power the V1 and it's remote display (and Savvy, their false go around) is a pain by comparison. Goodbye simple connection to the mirror. Anyone with Escort Redlines or Escort Max with prior V1 ownership (or vice versa) that can comment definatively on the pros and cons of them? I would not be using the GPS abilities of either of the Escorts, at least not in the forseeable future, but a simple, clean install is really appealing as long as they are effective out in the real world. Thanks 104 |
Rdforum.org. Everything you could possibly imagine x 1000 on radar and laser.
If you are looking for only windshield mounted detectors and want absolute maximum range, there is no substitute for the Redline. I haven't looked back since I got mine. I am thinking about grabbing a V1 at some point though to run as well with a remote display. |
Good site

The bias level there seems a bit lower than some of the sites I had found. A few of them were a bit biased against the Valentine IMO. I don't want to arbitrarily eliminate any of the other detectors out there and just jump on a V1 because of its past accolades. 104 |
I have a whistler from almost 10yrs ago. Works just as good as the first day i installed it. I know its not a fancy pansy V1 or escort, but....
Number of speeding tickets since i bought it in 2005: 0 :happydance: |
I just picked up a Passport 8500 X50 for $60, gotta love Craigslist. Can't wait to mount it in my new car

OK...
So from what research I've done there is an app called YaV1 that when paired with the V1 is supposed to make a great combo.
YaV1 runs on an Android phone (only Android) and uses BT to communicate with the V1. The phone doesn't even need to be activated with a carrier or have a data package. Updates can be done over WiFi wherever. The phone needs BT, WiFi and run a GPS app, and the faster the phone and newer the Android app the better, but it doesn't need to be all that fancy. Guys are using long obsolete phones to run YaV1, or unactivated, cheap pay-as-you-go phones paired with V1s through the V1 BT dongle. I'm still doing the research. I was at a BB today and downloaded YaV1 to a demo phone so I could see what it looked like. I only saw the YaV1 demo since it couldn't pair with a V1, obviously. Anyone here running YaV1?? 104 |

Just recommend you to remember three brands. Escort, Betronics, and Valentine. I bet that all the other brands are just like money-wasted.
IMO Escort Passport 9500ix highly recommended that it gives you least false alarms with its own GPS. It also outperforms almost all the other competitors for K and Ka band detection. In most states the old X band is no longer used. and is excellent for off-axis detection for 360 all-round full. Many say you cannot get safe from lasers, but actually you can. Not all LEOs are practiced enough to run laser (speed gun) if can slow down within 2~3 secs then if fortunate you can beat it. Beltronics is in the same company Escort, but just different brand. They even share same parts inside. is good, too. Valentine V1 is kind of unique. yeah it is good, and especially unrivaled to any other RDs that only V1 gives you an arrow that you can get exactly in what direction the radars come from. when you need the arrow, then that's it no hesitation. I'd also used Passport 8500 Black X50 - the best trim on 8500s but don't recommend it when you 370Z driver. For if your Camry or Altima then 8500 worthy but not for 370Z - it needs a better. Recently Escort made new RDs like Passport MAX, and MAX2 but have no idea for those at all - sorry. But say again, all the three brands only - Escort, Beltronics, and Valentine must be in your choice if you need real protection, not an accessory. |
I've always heard V1.
That being said, I've been driving sporty cars since I was 16. I've never had a radar detector and I have never had a ticket. |

It is true that laser is a hard thing it works in so short time. But with my RD passport 9500ix, I had my experience that I got safe from laser when slowed down immediately within 2~3 secs. Not all the LOEs are so goot at the laser. Literraly, "better than nothing" - so had better keep a RD even for your peace of mind, and can beat the laser if fortunate. |
I have the Passport MAX2 now, and with the included bluetooth feature, it pairs to my phone so I can use the EscortLIVE app and connect to other people using the same app similarly to the Waze app if anyone has that. I get alerts from other drivers on the same roads I go through, it's awesome. It has all the tried and true Escort features of Radar/Laser detection, and GPS learning as well. That's still my favorite feature for false signals. Other than that, I can say that it's only downside is the startup beep is EXTREMELY loud and high pitched, and is not controlled by the volume buttons. They only control the alert volume.

Lots of people are saying V1 when the poll shows Escort. Interesting.
I have an Escort 8500 X50 and it work beautifully. On open free way I can get Ka Band about 2-3 miles out. I think anyone that has had a radar detector can agree that all radar detectors struggle in city with so many things blocking the radar signal. My buddy has the V1 and when we cruise together it seems I am the first to get the signal and begin slowing down. The V1 shows the direction of the signal but who cares...if there is radar in the area you will slow down regardless. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure people will disagree lol |

V1 I believe must be good. also have seen so many positive evaluations on the Valentines. It shows an arrow for the direction of the police radar. Rather the Escorts show a distance bar. Which to choose? - It is totally up to user's preference. But there's something more than that. Different antennas work differently. Among the Escorts, the old S7 goes better for the off-axis detection. Recently they go with M4 for better detection range. The unique M3 is only installed on the Redline that it is invisible to all police's RDD (Radar Detector Detector). Just remember the three brand names - Valentine, Escort, and Beltronics are only worthy to depend on. For me all the others are just expensive accessories to show off. |
I'm biased as I've only ever had the V1. That being said, it's never let me down and has paid for itself many times over. I've had my V1 since '99
Aside from the arrows, which I love, do the other makers offer periodic software upgrades as radar tech changes? Valentine does. |

Yes, there were many updates on the 9500ix firmware. One day I want to try the V1. |
