Just thought I'd chime and say what other have said in that Rev D used as standard SLU unit in 20111 models and used as the 'fix' in 09/10 models also fail, like mind did this week. So, pull that bloody fuse while you can!

I posted this elsewhere

woo hoo, smacked the Steering unit, pushed start button once, it went into ACC mode, pulled the fuse and drove the hell of the Nissan workshop-should have their faces-gold! Especially after their comments "that wont work", "you will need to buy a new unit "etc Too funny.

I'll just add that this is the beauty of having special cars, none more so than the mighty Zed, in that there are many excellent people willing to share knowledge and experiences and pass that on. This job could have ended very badly for me without help from fellow Z forum users so thank you all very much once again

Long live the Zed:icon18:

Happend to my 2011

I deleted it. Up at the gas station where it locked out on me.

I have 2009 370. Steering wheel lock happened. I paid for it at spoke warmly to NISSAN and I got a my money back. Others complained and NISSAN issued a recall. I have the recall at my dealer and today I get to use it. Steering wheel lock for the 2nd time. Evidently the new mechanism is far better than the units ending in C or D. The upsetting part is that my loaner is a Leaf. A far cry from a twin turboed 370Z

The steering wheel lock on my 2009 370Z went out on 12 Dec 2020. My original steering was replaced via the “recall”on 14 Dec 2013, at 46,311 miles. The “recall”steering wheel lock lasted 7 years, my current car mileage is 275,000.

Never Too Late Or Too Many Miles To PULL THE FUSE - :ugh2:

PaulZ370 03-08-2021 03:14 PM

Couldn't get mine to kick into "ACC" mode so I can pull the fuse, so I had to replace it. Dealership was nice enough to do the fix at a discounted price ($540 US) and the car was only out for a day. I will be pulling the fuse next available opportunity once it's back in it's spot in my garage... I may appeal my case with NISSAN Consumer Services see if I can tweak their mercy and get a refund, total or otherwise...

Pulled the fuse this morning finally, now I can rest at ease knowing that this problem is not going to bite me in the future...

Attachment 146424 Fuse Box out and open

Attachment 146423 Fuse Location (4th from Bottom)

Attachment 146422 10A Fuse (yeah, NISSAN installed it upside down, reads "01" (Chuckle)), remove this one after placing the Start button in "ACC"

So uhm. I've got a 2011 and i had pulled the fuse... then 6-7 months later it happened again... i couldn't understand why.. So i put the fuse back and voila it worked, and then i proceeded to pull the fuse out again. I still can't explain what happened or why. Maybe cutting the wire is a better method or mine was a one off situation.. not sure

Well, that's interesting...

I have kept the fuse in the car, just could not discard it. But then, I am unusually cautious... some say paranoid...

I just heard back from Nissan Consumer Affairs, and they have declined to reimburse me for any of the cost. Very Disappointed and totally ticked off. This is known defect that Nissan knew about, sent out a recall about as well as a Technical Service Bulletin, but they expect us to deal with their design flaw on our nickel. Shameful.:shakes head:

I stuck camera under dash today to see what version my JDM 40th has..
its build is feb 2010,,

car is a rather fresh import was a dally driver so the story goes .

Well it has no sticker Its shinney only has one marking a bigish "M"
has wires going in at one end

its that shinney you can see the floor mat badge in it at one part of video.

anyone know about this type , should I leave it or pull the fuse ?.

Question why does car have a port dofer under the dash and another one in the centre console?.

Rusty 12-06-2021 05:23 PM

The steering wheel lock is behind the box with the M on it. Have no clue about the M box. It maybe goes to that thing on your dash.

The 2 ports are for 12 volt power.

I had a better look at the video I took of under the dash ,
does not apair to be anything else that looks like it plugs into the colum ..

aftermmarket JDM one ?

steering lock works, in fact too well, when starting the car as when you hit the button the steering wheel can move around quite fast . Learnt fast to keep hands away from it at start up
