Sad News :(
well guys/gals, was waiting to say anything till i got a final word on my Z but it looks like i may have to give up on my current Z which is sitting on life support now at a body shop. kind of a freak accident really, normal day just going to work as usual and went to take the last right turn before i got to my job, no rain but roads were still a little wet from the previous nights rain so turned off VDC like i usually do since i didnt plan to be encountering anything dangerous on my short trip to work which is less than 10 miles from where i live. boy was i wrong, was going around 20mph taking the right turn and before i knew it i felt the back tires lose traction tried to turn into the slide but it was to late and i had to sit back and watch helplessly as my Z plowed into the nearest electric pole. my Z is now sitting at a nearby body shop waiting to be torn apart and checked from top to bottom, but it's not looking good....talked to body shop adjuster earlier today and according to her from just looking at the outside there is a good chance of frame damage. luckily i had GAP insurance on the Z so all the finances will be taken care of, but i was wondering....i am doing some planning for worst case scenario that it is totalled and i have a few choices as far as cars go, i was thinking of either getting another Z but this time a 2013, a 2013 mustang GT, or a scion FR-S...given the choice what would you guys do, oh and any other suggestions of good replacement cars are welcomed also. i went ahead and test drove a new 2013 Z today and i have to say i am pretty impressed by the improvements they made over my 2011, suspension feels a little softer but not to soft, the manual transmission on the one i test drove also felt alot smoother with alot softer feel to the clutch as well. going to be going car shopping with a buddy of mine this weekend so just hoping i dont pass up anything good if anyone has any suggestions on cars.

:crying: Sorry to hear about your accident, glad you're okay though.
My vote would be for another Z, but I can't put my money on a 2013, the body (un)improvements ruined it for me. As for the mustang, I'd say wait till the 2014's come out to invest in one of those, so sayeth some Mustang owners I know. BRZ wouldn't be bad, apparently has a much larger aftermarket following than the Z does. :icon17: |
Whoaaa say it isn't so Mike :(
I would look at new Nismo :) A Mustang would be bada$$ but not scarce like a Z :stirthepot: Keep us posted |
Get a mustang

1. Get a beater and wait until the next generation GT-R.
2. Get a Scion FR-S. 3. Get a beater and wait until the 2015 240Z comes out. 4. Get a beater and wait until the 2014 Mustang comes out. |

I vote a 13" You might be able to find a steal on a 2012 as well.
|
Dam that sucks, I see you're in Fullerton I went to school there it's the most crowded worst city to drive in SoCal sometimes.
2013 z is ugly in my opinion. Frs is underpowered for street driving, mustang is a good choice if you're into brute torque. I would say get something crappy now and save for next gen z or used gtr |

Sorry to hear about your Z.
As good as the handling on the FRS/BRZ might be, I think the lack of power will get to you. Especially if you are considering other cars like a Mustang. My votes in order. 1. Find a 2012 that dealer is trying to move for 2013, good deals could be had 2. If you can stomach it, get beater and save for GTR 3. Mustang to change it up if you like 'merican. 4. If you can swing it, last generation Z06, its grown on me big time. |
Sorry to hear about your loss...
I would get a Z, but I'm biased... |
Both cars you've picked will be neat. With all those turbos at Subaru, one is bound to turn up on the BRZ soon. That would be the one to get, otherwise you are going backwards.
The Mustang is practically another culture compared to the Z. I'd return to the Z myself. |
Hate to see a Blue Z destroyed. With all these next gen cars on schedule... hoopty-it out for a while. Wait and see next gen improvements. Then choose.
|
Thanks for all the suggestions guys keep them coming I am looking at All options so no idea anyone has will go to waste

So many great cars if you're in the market, but it might be worth the wait if you're willing to wait another year or two. Out of all those choices, an FR-S or BRZ sounds reasonble to hold you over until the next Z. I have a feeling they'll hold thier value pretty well and they're not that expensive if you don't go too crazy with options and mods. It will be a downgrade from the Z, but they're great cars. Some other suggestions would be the BMW 1 series or 3 series, the G37 (which is due for a re-design).......and if you're willing to stretch your budget, the Corvette (also due for re-design), BMW Z4 and the Audi TT-S (kind of small cars though)

Just curious. If VDC was on he'd still have his car is all I'm saying. |

Upon second reading, I did come off a little more snarky than originally intended. It's definitely a crappy situation. I hope you get a suitably entertaining replacement. In the future though, water on road>0, VDC= on.

yah, especially when temps are colder one needs to watch out. the traction to break point is even narrower in those conditions.
since you're in socal maybe the frs/brz might be fun to drive in the canyons. powerwise it's a pretty weak car though. maybe something awd? |
my vote is for a Z, either this gen or next gen but always a Z
i really hope your Z isnt totaled, its a shame to see a crash like this happen, hope everything goes well one of my friends got in a similar crash with his FRS because he turned on VSC sport mode(this retards traction control so you can slide a bit more) on wet roads, imo keep traction control on, and with the 370z, it isnt intrusive with day to day driving, just remember to turn it off when you head down to the track ;) |
My vote goes for the 2013 Porsche Boxster S!

If you're looking to get back into a Z, I'm sure you could find a good deal on dealerships trying to unload the 2012. You know, with it being December already.
I drive a BRZ at work and I don't know. It's nothing ground breaking enough that would even make me think about picking one up, especially after driving my Z to work. I'm assuming the FRS would be the same case. Good luck with your situation!! |
keep the suggestions coming guys, building a list of cars to test drive this weekend from all your comments...oh and just have to throw out one or two conditions 1.) budget is about $35,000 or lower 2.) car has to be able to handle well and have good road feel 3.) preferably RWD or AWD 4.) something i can work on myself if need be and i dont have to pay a dealer an arm and a leg to have maintained 5.) good aftermarket support and as always thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far
|
used GTR :yum:

my sentiments exactly, lol you guys are tempting me even more to just get a beater and save for the GT-R |
For $35k I'd stick to the Z or the 'Stang. You'll be disappointed with the FR-S/BRZ's lack of power. You'll end up spending as much, if not more to get it even remotely close to the Z's hp. The 'Stang is a great choice, but they are everywhere and the styling is already somewhat dated. I'm gonna suggest the Z for the reasons I got it in the first place. Great power, great looks and great price.

Z man. Z!

I frequently turn it off in the wet so do not feel alone. Sorry for what happened. |

if you don't drive much 10 miles to work how about the originally Z a 240z....
I bought the Z over a mustang, too big for me now... but like the others, I would wait if you have time to see how the new stang comes out.... but a nismo would be nice too.... 2013, like what they did to the suspension, but not the body |
The Mustang gets my vote.

oh and maybe a used dodge challenger SRT8, they arnt fast but they look cool and are fun to drive oh and maybe a used evo 8/9 and use the other 15k to mod it, you would have a street legal 8-10sec car if you did that and you will smoke almost every sports car on the road, plus its pratical, 4 doors and trunk space lol |
You're going to have to see about $24K in damages before an insurance company totals the vehicle. Considering a 20 mph impact unless the front end is really damaged you may see the insurance company repairing it.

well in case you or anyone else is wondering this is currently the way it looks right now just to give you an idea of what the body shop is dealing with: http://www.the370z.com/members/z_eal...ure59306-a.jpg |

Glad your OK |
